Next year, I'm gonna go through and travel to one of my dream destinations, Japan.

The plan is to fly to Tokyo, but I also want to see Kyoto and see the Nintendo building but also some of the gorillion temples. Thing is, I have never travelled like that before alone. I've always stayed in one place for the duration of the stay.

How do I best plan this? I'm thinking about staying for 2 weeks. Is it best to spend 1 week in Tokyo, then 1 week in Kyoto or is Kyoto a place you just stay for a few days so it's best to spend 5 days in Tokyo, 2-3 days in Kyoto, and then back to Tokyo?

Is it best to book some Airbnb for the entire duration in Tokyo in that case, so that in your mind you know you have a place to stay when you get back, or is it better to live in 3 different places? 2 in Tokyo and 1 in Kyoto?

Honestly excited, even though I don't speak 1 word of Japanese. I'll try to learn basic phrases but I hope I can still get by.

I'm going there in 3 weeks, staying for 2 weeks.

We'll be 5 nights in Tokyo, 2 in Osaka, 4 in Kyoto and then one last night back in Tokyo the day before our flight back home.

Honestly I would've stayed only in Tokyo and Kyoto as bases and then travelling everywhere else from there. The thing is I work in a hotel so I get discount in "our" hotels around the world, and Osaka was really cheap in those days. That's why I can't really help you with the accommodation.

From Kyoto or Osaka you can travel to lots of interesting places. We'll go to Nara, Himeji, Byodo-in Temple, Hiroshima and Miyajima.

Get a JR Pass (expensive as fuck, but worth it) and move around. Use Hyperdia to know the routes, timetables and stuff. For me it's been a bit tricky but eventually you'll get it.

Luckily there's a ton of information about Japan online, you should be able to find whatever you need. Also there's always a Japan General here in /trv/.

Have fun mate. I'm excited as fuck as well.

How much money would you need to travel the world by yourself, per year. I'm talking visiting new cities and countries daily, probably taking a month in cities you want to completely see.

You would need to spend money on transportation, food, lodging. How much would I need to do this for 3-4 years?

I guess the biggest expense would be on lodging/hotels, you can move around on a car or renting/train/bus.

The old rule of $50 a day still seems to be mostly true. I feel like this might average out to about $60 now as a lot of developing countries have caught up in price.

It's a figure for traveling comfortably. Sleeping in hostels or guest houses, eating out, drinking and partying and visiting tourist sites. Now you won't be able to do everything every day but if you balance out everything you can do it for under $30 in developing countries and about $80-90 in developed ones. The price per year will be $10-20k.

Now there are huge deviations from this. You can travel for $100 a month but you'll be couchsurfing, hichhiking, sleeping in tents, possibly not eating every day etc.

What you're describing is fairly impossible unless you plan the shit out of it and you're loaded, willing to endure hardships and inconveniences and you don't strike me as such a person.

What does "see the world" mean anyway? Every country? Every other country? Circumnavigate? Free roam? Every different scenario has wildly different challenges and requirements.

Don't be an armchair traveler and post something meaningful, please.

Have you gone to Fiesole? It has some old Roman buildings that might be worth seeing.
It's twenty minutes by bus from Florence.

if you like free wine and olive oil tasting, I'd suggest you go to San Donatino, it's a farm own by french famous singer Leo Ferre.

It's completly free and limitless, the place is wonderful and you get your own space doing all the tasting you like without anyone bothering you or pushing you to buy.

It's also not so far from San Giminiano, a nice medieval city.

Hello, my friend and I - who are both 18 - like to travel alot. However, due to school starting, my friend and I can't do so for very long periods of time in far away places for the time being. However, we still could travel on the weekends or when breaks occur.

I was wondering, from Des Moines Iowa, where could we go if we could leave on day 1 and had to be back home by day 3. Like say we left on a Friday at 3 pm and had to be home Sunday by 11 or midnight. Some exceptions occurring of course, like say we have a Monday off.

I'd also highly appreciate week long adventure suggestions that you could drive to from Des Moines Iowa and stay a couple days there. For things like spring break, winter break, and next summer.

Thanks for all the help you give if it's given. Hopefully this doesn't seem like an arrogant/ needy thing to ask. Was just hoping someone would have something nearby they heavily enjoyed seeing and would like to share that maybe I didn't know about. Thank you all who post.

P.S. We really enjoy big nature parks, art, architecture, and history. Especially nature parks and architecture cause it's usually free to see and makes for good photos lol.

Also, we've already been to Omaha, Kansas City, Cedar Rapids/Iowa City. Also nature spots like Maquoketa Caves State Park, Mines of Spain, and other nature spots in Iowa. We also plan on later on going to the Ozarks, the Badlands/ Where Mount Rushmore is, and Minneapolis. This is just in regards to stuff we can/ have driven to.

The great lakes are pretty cool. Lots of parks up in Northern Wisconsin and Northern Minnesota worth checking out.

Madison Wisconsin is also a fun college town. I was there last labor day weekend and there was lots going on: local food festivals, boating on the lakes, college football. The restaurant scene is also great, lots of beer options if you're into that.

Hello guys,

I am planning to going abroad for some time.

Dont know exactly where, but i am very interested in art (cinematography student). I have already been in Japan and was a very estimulating experience.

The things is, i am looking to get involve in any form of art education workshop, course or related without a) knowing other language besides english and spanish.

i am asking to much?

Here's what I gleaned from your post.

>You're a spoiled rich kid
>You feel no need to have marketable skills
>Youre okay with being less employable than an ex con with a forklift license
>Your parents are okay with supporting you until you're 40
>You think way too highly of yourself.

Either way the best idea for a place to visit would be somewhere with a high bridge to jump off

Hi /trv/,

I am in the beginning process of planning a normie Euro-trip for January/February 2018. I know it is winter, but that is when me and my friends will have time off of work.

We have about 3-4 weeks. We are in our young 20s and from the midwestern United States.

Cities we want to hit:
>London
>Dublin
>Paris
>Amsterdam
>Berlin or Munich?
>maybe a city in Poland?
>Prague
>Vienna
>Budapest
>somewhere fun in Croatia (King's landing?)
>Rome (maybe 1-2 more Italian cities?)
>Barcelona
>Morocco

We want to all the traditional tourist spots in each city. We are interested in nightlife.

If anyone has any recommendations for sights/hostels/nightlife in any of those cities, please share.

Any special considerations for traveling in winter?

Thanks, we are beginner travelers.

3-4 weeks are not nearly enough for that many locations. You should narrow it down to 8-10 cities max depending on your planned travel pace.

How are you planning to travel around? Interrail?

I did Budapest - Bratislava - Prague - Berlin - Amsterdam this summer by train during the course of 15 days, and it felt a bit rushed at times. Remember that some of the train routes will take you quite some time.

You have plenty of time to plan this though, good thing to get started in time.
>>
>>1291005
agree. it's no good just rushing through it. stay a little bit longer, is the city is boring: day trips
>>
I agree that you couldn't do this in 3-4 weeks. From personal experience anything under three nights in a big city will feel like a rush.

Also done interrail: Amsterdam - Berlin - Warsaw - Krakow - Bratislava - Budapest.

I'd really recommend Poland, it was my favourite part of the trip by far. It's cheap and very pleasant. Warsaw was nice, but Krakow was best for me. You could walk out of the city quite easy into wooded hills with great views.

fellas, will have any issues with using my drivers license (australian) in Europe to get into bars and etc?
also if any of yall have recommendations for good cheap hostels in london/paris pls let me know

There's no ID check at bar's entrance (in France at least) as far as I know. If you look young they might ask for your ID but only if you order alcohol, and it's quite rare imo. They will ask for sure if you buy alcohol in supermaket though.

For accommodation in Paris, don't be scared to go a bit far from the city center, public transport is quite practical in the capital. Sometimes it's even interesting to look for stuff outside Paris "intra muros", like in neighboring cities or even a bit further (up to 30 minutes in RER)
>>
You'll be fine, all you need for any age verification is a government issued form, which a license is.
>>
>>1290839

Hey dude.

So to answer your first question if you look over 16-17 you will never be asked for ID anywhere in France. Not even in supermarkets. You should bring your id just in case if you have a babyface or are on the cusp of 18-19 but I have lived in France during my lower 20's and was never asked once.

As for hostels check out Young & Happy in the quartier latin. As long as you dont book a bed over the weekend you can get pretty good deals - ill be there this Wednesday through Friday and only paid 77€ or about $85. Considering its on a party steet (rue Mouffetard) with tons of bars / student night life and is situated in the 5e arrondisement its an amazing price for the location. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Much depression, such feeling of missing out heading back to my hotel in a place like Hong Kong, do you guys ever just say fuck it and go order a drink alone? I always feel like such a self conscious loser though when everyone's drinking with friends...I've only done it once...I've seen other people doing it though, having a book or a tablet seems to be the key.

Literally nothing wrong with this. Nice to sit sometimes with a beer and a cigarette and a book, especially if they have a nice quiet terrace. Sometimes people will talk to you and sometimes they won't. I never feel self conscious about it really.
>>
>>1290834
I think it depends on the bar, going for a nice craft beer early on around 8-9pm can be very nice if you have wifi and a phone. But going out at 12am when everyone is partying, by yourself is weird and depressing

Or quite fun, if you just say 'fuck it' and party along.

I found a job living and working on a ski resort in Germany. I am planning on saving up as much as I can for a time to build up a financial cushion, get a tax number, and then look for another job.

I'm an American with a BA and no real marketable skills. I think I am a fine writer, and I know Latin and Chinese, but these don't go far without other specifications it seems.

Am I doomed to teach English? If so, I am wondering about all of the fulltime kindergarten offerings I am seeing. They say they want a degree in education along with relevant work experience. My degree is in Classics, but all I have is some experience teaching English to adults in China when I studied there abroad. I am wondering if that kind of stuff is negotiable. I imagine native English teachers are more of a rarity in Germany because of what seems to be a higher barrier of entry compared to a place like China. In my mind this gives me hope that I might land such a position, but I don't know much about the red tape that might be lurking to trip me up.

I don't mean to dwell so much on that option however. I am looking for any ideas that would be feasible for a recent grad. I am willing to work anywhere, and I anticipate my German would be pretty good by the time I begin to look for jobs (I took two semesters at college). Am I dreaming too big? Any ideas or advice would be appreciated.

>I am wondering about all of the fulltime kindergarten offerings I am seeing. They say they want a degree in education along with relevant work experience
Yeah you're not likely to land a job without any kind of experience, the market there is fairly open, but they take people that did internships in school or as a volunteer year.

>I imagine native English teachers are more of a rarity in Germany because of what seems to be a higher barrier of entry compared to a place like China
No. There are very many, still not impossible to get a job, though.

If your Chinese is good, you might be able to teach that, or tutor English/German to Chinese (lots of students in the student cities)
>>
>>1291030
Thanks for the reality check.

I feel like I should probably return to school after this year so I can get a real job. I'll still apply somewhere and see what happens I guess.

I have been working with a friend in China to get some essay/translation contacts in Asia, but this would ideally be supplemental income.
>>
>>1290794
If I were you I'd learn German asap and start looking at the qualifications for jobs that interest you and learn the necessary skills. The labor market will tip in your favor as years pass and maybe some employers might take you on and learn as you work.

Hello,

I don't know if this violates 4chan's rules but anyway.

I am travelling to Stockholm in the near future and I'm wondering if there is a site in tor-web that I should check for someting to smoke.

I've used google and I know there are some locations, but that is not the case here. I have very limited time at the city and I prefer not to spend it by looking for untrushtworthy junkies to sell me bad weed. I am common with the stick local laws and that is one reason I want to handle this in forehand and smoothly with trustworhty dealer.

So just point me to correct direcrtion in TOR if you can, thanks in advance :)

Scandinavia is one of the hardest places in Europe to get drugs. Just suck it up and go a few days without smokes. Do what the locals do and get drunk instead.
>>
>>1290784
Don't know about Sweden but in Finland is easy as fuck, especially the most common drugs. Thanks to the internet. And that is what I am asking for, is there a market place in TOR-web for Sweden?
>>
>>1290773
Swedefag here.
Avoid all street dealers in central Stockholm
Immigrant 'burbs are the only places you can buy relatively safely from unknown sources (don't even think about typing, polfags).
If you talk with friends about this, don't talk to anyone that isn't either very chilled or a die-hard raver, or similar. Swedefags do not have a realistic view on weed. Especially if they are rural.
If you are staying some time in Sweden, get an address. Either you use your own, or you get a fully anon p.o. box at Brevia.se (expensive). Send for whatever you want from friends abroad or through darknet. It is very unlikely you will get busted. Do not leave digital trails though.

Note: It is illegal to have THC in your blood in Sweden. Along with Thailand, Sweden is just about the only country where you could get piss-tested when you are out clubbing. The fines are minimal, but it is a fkn hassle. For those reasons, a a postscriptum, I hope the copper in your pic gets a sudden and violent death ASAP.

Hey /trv/, brewing my next trip and hoping to live in a city for some time.

At home I work in a fairly corporate environment but I'm a trained classical singer and like the idea of trying to earn a living with that.

Looking for suggestions for cities that might be good for evening performers at bars or stage productions. Preferably English speaking.

Thanks in advance.
