I have never traveled and I never want to.

I am 25 years old and running into a problem where my current problem always has to "just get away" and "make experiences".

She wants to go away somewhere for her birthday. I offered to just buy her a new expensive cellphone or computer but she is on one of those "I don't need materialism I need experiences" trips (with it ending up that she needs the materialism in the end anyway and I get cucked into buying both).

Anyway... I myself have never traveled. I don't see a reason as to why I have to spend $2000 for a few days to sit on a beach getting skin cancer. I understand that isn't the end-all of travel, there are many things to see but ... honestly, I just don't care enough to see the things I can just google.

Also, all this instagram culture and picture of everyone else being posted on social media traveling excessively has really worn off any uniqueness of travel. It just seems like if there was a cliche of physical actions, traveling would be a big one.

I wold told by my partner that I don't understand traveling because I have never done it before. It is probably the case, but I mean.... dude, $2000 to sit on a beach or look at some old architecture that I have seen countless amounts of times through other channels?
tl;dr can someone convince a person who has never traveled and believes it is pointless - that it is indeed the opposite?

Just.

Let me make this easy for you, if you don't like traveling, don't push yourself to do it. But if it's for your girl and you love her, go to the retarded beach.

I live near New Orleans so I know people who have never left there little part of Louisiana, and that's fine. It's also just getting away from what's familiar, like Iceland for example, that place is fucking crazy, or experiencing German Bavarian Culture at its best. Or being completely surrounded by people different than you, it feels nice. Do some looking around and if you find a place that you think would be cool, go, you don't have to go to fucking 3rd world shitholes to have traveled. I've never done that and don't see a reason too. If you look around places in europe and everywhere else and you just think its retarded then don't do it. Traveling isn't for everybody.

why are you going there during winter?
do you expect nightlife or fun?
>>

i dont party or do that much nightlife stuff. I was hoping to find cool places to go and do Russian stuff or pictures. I'll be there studying Russian 6 days a week and I really like soviet era architecture and taking photos of concrete blocks. I went to pyramiden this summer and had a great time lol

Siberiafag living in the states here, you're really lucky, Novosibirsk is the 3rd biggest city in Russia, and since it's not one of the two meme cities you also get to see "real" Russia.

Is anyone else of the opinion that every successful travel blogger is actually a really shitty traveler? It seems like all they do is write articles that pander to their followers. They go to the same exact spots, not even remotely straying off the proven backpacker trails.

I'm hoping to be proven wrong here though. Do you have an example of a travel blogger who's actually a good traveler?

>pander to their followers
How do you think anybody survives as a professional social media personality. It's all about getting some segment of your audience to pay you by saying things they like to hear
>>
>>1294393
You may have it backwards -- they may go to the kind of places they like, and folks interested in that follow their blog?

Also, you have no real idea where or how they travel, only what they choose to share on their blog -- which, as you surmise, may be tailored to their audience.

me, I'd go look at whatever my followers wanted if that financed my ability to also, while I am there, go see the shit that interests me, even if I didn't share that on the Intertubes for money.

I don't buy the latest best entertainment devices or the hottest name brand clothes. I don't carry large credit debt and don't go out to eat all the time.

Sell your blood. Plasma or whatever.

Drug testing also pays bank. Two med studies later and you have yourself a nice vacation.

Live in a dump, I'm not going to lie. That, and I don't have a car, have relatively few clothes, no expensive hobbies to blow money on, etc.

Question: what are the flattest countries to ride across?

I've had a disability all my life; recently I found a way to improve it and thus my quality of life. I can exercise somewhat now and would love to cycle across a country.

However there is a limit - I still can't do anything intense. Cycling uphill would be too intense. And Britain and much of Europe is very hilly and so impossible for me. I basically need an easy mode, flat country.

Size doesn't matter; a big flat country is preferable to a small hilly country.

I'm having health issue for two years brought by a drug, no need to enter into details. I'm 20. I've saved up enough to live confortably for a year and focus entirely on my recovery following a special protocol including sun bathing, warm weather to make me sweat as much as possible, lifting ( androgen related ), HIIT, and a special diet ( mainly Paléo with carbs restriction )
Basically I ask you guys where in the earth can I find a place where it is sunny, where there is organic shop with quality food, sea / lake or forest nearby, and a fitness center . I don't think third world country is an option no offense, mainly because of language barrier, Im french )
There is probably a lot but I've thought about the golden coast in Australia? The west coast in the USA/colorado, Japan ( I can speak Japanese , spent a year there when I was 16 ) especially Okinawa .

Any thoughts ? Thanks in advance

French anon here.

'Straya could a good choice, but everything is expensive so your budget might be significantly shortened. Also, the fact you'd have to stay in a foreign AND a non-French speaking environment could be a bit stressful after a while, which isn't great for recovery.

What about Reunion island ? It's got everything you mentioned, French-speaking, and if the weather gets unbearable, you can go up to the mountains for fresh air.
It's fairly easy to go back to French mainland if needed.
Also, bonus point, Secu will work there for you too if you have a relapse or something.
>>
Also , France isn't an option as I want to be far from my family and relatives . This year will only be focused on recovery , as currently I can't go on with life and I need to take action as soon as possible . Or Maybe Corsica .
French Polynesia ( Tahiti ) might be an option too. This is this kind of weather ( warm, sunny, natural ) that I'm looking for . Just need infrastructures like organic shop, places to lift, stress free environment ( big city might not be a good choice hence )
>>
>>1294003
Merci ;-)
Yeah I wrote my second post before reading yours ! Reunion or Tahiti might be a good option , really . English , Japanese are ok to me, I'm used to the people too, but I get your point and that's why Spanish / Portuguese country aren't ideal even though they might have what I need in terms of weather / infrastructures .
Ive never heard of Straya, I'm looking it up on google rn. Thanks for your input and recommandation !

Interesting. I don't have a close social group, if I did I would miss them a lot. I miss my family sometimes. I mostly escape into my bubble and live life alone and kind of like a westerner anyway.
>are you satisfied with it?
Soso, I go for work. It's fun but difficult. Usually 12 hour days or longer. If I can decrease it to 8 or less and get time to travel around more I would be more happy.

America, from Korea
It's confusing at times. Lots of turmoil, people fighting against each other while not realizing that they want the same things, but in different ways. I've had dinner at conservative and liberal households, and they both seem to be convinced that the other side is out to destroy their way of life. It's kind of sad, because as an outsider looking in, some problems seem to be easier to fix.

I'm pretty satisfied. I really miss my grandparents and friends, but I'm here to pave my own path, so I shouldn't let homesickness keep me from moving forward. Besides, I socialize with the people here, and often find comfort in helping other expats feel like they're at home.

I helped cook for a Finnish student who really missed home. Finnish food is nothing like Korean food, but I looked up some recipes and he really liked the food.

>where is that?
Prague, Czech Republic
>what is it like?
Been there for few months already, it's enjoyable. The experience is different than being a tourists. There's no rush in seeing all sightseeings, or even lack of interest. The most walking to see stuff I have done, was when I had a friend over. I also got to discover some interesting spots that tourist rarely get to see.
With a job and longer stay, it's cheaper, as you can find a normal flat, instead of a hotel, hostel, or other temporary (and expensive) accommodation. I also get to eat out everyday, which is pretty awesome. It's cheaper and less time-taking than cooking for one person.
The bad part is language barrier. While many people are able to communicate in English, it's just not the language used here, so it cuts access to many local activities.
>are you satisfied with it?
Moved there for a job, the money is good, great compared to what I would get in my home country. But once there will be a possibility, I'm looking forward to moving elsewhere.
I'm afraid that outside of summer the experience might not be as good.

Aside from the second part, it's not even hard. It's like the average normie thinks you need to be local to travel alone someplace and not just have an internet connection.
>>
>>1293697
I used to have this sjw normie friend that, at 27, had been all over the world. She basically finished uni at 22 in a meme degree then traveled for 5 years as often as possible. People were always like "wow ur so worldly XD" and really looked up to her. Anyway I got her drunk one time and she spilled about how:

1. Its lonely
2. Its really just getting on and off airplanes
3. Its massively superficial (she had like 2000 fb friends)
4. She had saved almost nothing and was in debt
5. Her earning ceiling was about 15 USD/hr at home and she had to run home to mommy and daddy after every trip cleaned out her bank account.

Felt sorry for her.

So, I'm trying to visit every US state. Next on my list is Alabama... I'm having a hard time finding anything interesting to go see in "the heart of the South". I love charming southern culture like in Savannah GA and Charleston SC...

Alabama has beaches on the Gulf Coast, and NASA around Huntsville.

Nasa is Huntsville is a good recommendation

>>1293532
What part of Alabama are you passing through, North, South, and Central are all pretty different. If you go down South on the coast just check out Battleship Park, where you can tour a battleship and a submarine from ww2. Try some of the local restaurants or something.

Straight to the point: I was rejected from the French Foreign Legion and am currently stuck in France.

The tickets back home to the USA are prohibitively expensive unless I buy one that will get me back home in early October, so I am stuck in France without any plans or place to stay, or even spare clothes and shoes and basic amenities until that time. This was not a part of the plan, so I desperately need some help and advice. I am currently in Aubagne, and this is my first time on an international trip, by myself on top of it. I have around 8k USD on my debit card, only speak English, and only brought my cell phone, cell phone charger, and what I am wearing.

>>
>>1293526
If you have 8k the tickets aren't too expensive, a flight from France the US is 1.5k at the absolute most
>>
Look for airbnbs and cheap hotels near highways for your first few nights. Head for superstores such as intermarché to pick up a few shirts and cheap food. Ask around, most people speak basic english. Ask yourself what you want to do. I'd advise you to head inland as the riviera is ridiculously expensive during summer. Go to a train station and hop on a TER, they are relatively cheap trains that will get you anywhere. Go to a bar and get wasted.
There are so many things to do and see in France, if you're going to stay for a while don't hesitate to ask questions here I'll try to help.

Good job on getting rejected and allowing yourself a few more years to live.
>>
>>1293528
This, are you really asking us how to purchase a ticket and some clothes on a 8k budget?
If only debit card try to western union yourself some cash, book a train ticket to the airport where the flight you booked departs from, and fly home.
Spend a day or two before your flight if you want some tourism out of your fuck up.
