There's no ID check at bar's entrance (in France at least) as far as I know. If you look young they might ask for your ID but only if you order alcohol, and it's quite rare imo. They will ask for sure if you buy alcohol in supermaket though.

For accommodation in Paris, don't be scared to go a bit far from the city center, public transport is quite practical in the capital. Sometimes it's even interesting to look for stuff outside Paris "intra muros", like in neighboring cities or even a bit further (up to 30 minutes in RER)

You'll be fine, all you need for any age verification is a government issued form, which a license is.

Hey dude.

So to answer your first question if you look over 16-17 you will never be asked for ID anywhere in France. Not even in supermarkets. You should bring your id just in case if you have a babyface or are on the cusp of 18-19 but I have lived in France during my lower 20's and was never asked once.

As for hostels check out Young & Happy in the quartier latin. As long as you dont book a bed over the weekend you can get pretty good deals - ill be there this Wednesday through Friday and only paid 77€ or about $85. Considering its on a party steet (rue Mouffetard) with tons of bars / student night life and is situated in the 5e arrondisement its an amazing price for the location. Carry your passport around just in case. It is possible that stricter countries about alcohol (Scandinavia) will not accept your license. Your passport will work everywhere though.

In UK they're asking for ID quite often. Normally, everyone is happy with any kind of ID with your picture and birth date, even in Scandinavia.
