You have 40 minutes before nuclear ICBMs impact at your location (and all over the world too) and world goes to utter shit.

You have a slight advantage (?) that other people don't know about impending nuclear war until 10 minutes before missiles impact.

What is your plan of survival, both short- and long-term?

I don't have a place to hide out safely and I have no idea where/if there's anywhere above ground that wouldn't be obliterated so I'm fucked.

If I want to run a Final Fantasy sort of game, where do I start?

Are there any homebrews or systems that replicate any of the games well? I know that they vary in mechanics quite a bit over the series, but the job systems and the way 7 handled materia stand out to me.

Hey, /tg/
What IS the level of technology available in the Imperium, from scratch? I get that technology to them is hand-me-down schematics, voodoo playing with machine spirits and bureaucracy refusing to try anything new or whatever, plasteel and adamantite dominate..

but do they still use copper and similar conductors for little things? Is education wide enough available so colonists on offworlds or hive worlds could learn how to build simple analog, maybe even digital devices from smelted metal, silicon and etc?

Clearly the Imperium isn't going to be building shit out of graphene or stringing buckyballs into monomolecular garroting wire, that sounds too advanced. But is it feasible that a colony world could innovate technology before the ecclesiarchy or adeptus mechanicum either robs them blind or burns their technology institutions to the ground/puts the discourse into line with Emprah approved tech?

I mostly ask for writing fluff. It's for a planet with shit for metals, so they try and compensate their lack with glass, bricks, ceramics and maybe graphene.

Despite what the mememasters of tg will tell you the imperium isn't retarded. Nor is the Cult Mechanicus retarded. The admisistratum...okay they might be retarded. They are technologically speaking, a lot more advanced then us over all. As far as individual worlds it depends on what kind of world it is. Obviously if you end up on a fuedal world or a feral world, well then they ain't got shit. But Civilized on up they probably have some nice shit. That being said innovation IS dangerous in setting, depending on what you are innovating.
>>
>>50129441
In-setting, mining for more metal for conductors is economically unfeasible, as they can't devote the manpower nor guarantee they'll maintain the land. The only metals the civilization have left come from their colony ship that was used to bring their ancestors there, 10K+ years ago. So, they're forced to find alternatives. They're mostly nomadic and maintain a very efficient oral history of science. Making things piecemeal out of tempered glass or carbon is all they've really got.

So imagine someone took a standard issue Lasgun and replaced both the battery and the operating mechanisms with on-world built duplicates. It's still a lasgun, but they can afford to lose it if it breaks and it's just proprietary enough that nobody else on-world can figure out how to recharge it.

Little Commodore 64 computers and microcontrollers made using graphene and vacuum tubes, for some 1960s classic rayguns n'shit. Stuff that'll burst apart like a halogen bulb if broken but is otherwise as solid as a metal gun.

They were forced to use renewable materials because about the most abundant and only truly guaranteed thing they'll have is dirt, anywhere they go. Dirt, and fire.
>>
>>50129441
>said innovation IS dangerous in setting, depending on what you are innovating.
To expound upon this anon a little the geometry of what have you is extremely important. Certain geometries can increase the likelihood of daemonic possession of the thing in question. Some can outright summon gaping rends in reality if something specific happens to them. This is part of why it takes so long for the AdMech to design and vet new designs.

I can't remember where anymore but I remember reading about a hive world that went into rebellion or something and a ton of the population was killed in the streets. Turns out the concentric spokes the hive was designed as acted as a giant summoning circle and I think you can figure out where this is going.

You have 10 minutes to explain why planar bullshit doesn't immediately destroy the integrity and world building of any setting.

Planescape is the biggest offender.

Common sense
>>
>>50129345
I don't like it, and even if it does exist in the setting I'm currently DMing, I try to pay it as little attention as possible.
For Planescape/Spelljammer and other such things I have nothing but contempt, and I would not DM them if my players paid me to.
>>
I think "immediately destroys the integrity and world building" is pretty strong, if your setting was designed from the ground up around planar hijinx it could work

but I do find it hugely uninteresting and disappointing to throw alternate worlds at a group of characters who are emotionally invested in a perfectly good world already

I DM a D&D group for my friends and Dad, there are 3 players who each have 2 characters.

Player A has a Gnome Transmuter Tibi, who is the most badass wizard I've ever seen, and a Human (Sechian) Ranger/beast master Dragen with a wolf [Sechians are a human culture from the North, some are Viking like, some are Native American, Dragen is NA]

Player B has a half-orc assassin who's fucked up everything that's gotten in his path, and an elven warlock (fiend pact, but RPed as ancient elven hero instead of demon [works in my setting]) who also dumps out damage at incredible levels, warlocks are awesome in 5e

Player D has an Elven Cleric who is your iconinc tolkien elf, and a human fighter who's a knight of the realm (surface kingdom)

The characters were forced into the Underdark after the appearance of a massive Orc Army (orcs, goblins, hobgoblin mercs, giants, etc.).

When they resurface it will be in the nearby dwarven kingdom (Player B's half-orc has a dwarven relic adamantine longsword, non-magical, but it WILL make some interesting RP happen for sure)

They will have to convince the Dwarves to come back the Humans on the surface (who are already backed by the Elves) in this 'war' against the Orcs, but here's what I need from /tg/

What would it take for a Dwarven Kingdom, who's power comes from trade with the Humans to join this war? They are constantly under siege by forces of the Underdark and would be hesitant to send forces to the surface.

So:
-Orc Army conquering the surface
-Half-Orc wielding a Dwarven Prince's sword that's been lost for a long time
-Dwarves ~do~ have stake in the surface, but are engaged in endless wars in the Underdark (dwarven culture reflects this)
6 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
notes:
-Orc Army on the surface is ~15,000 strong, has monsters (including flying ones such as Hobgoblin Manticore Knights, winged Kobolds, and a few hundred gargoyles)

-Human Kingdom is rallying all of it's forces, the Orcs raided "The Six Settlements" in the west and refugees have flooded the capital city, but their forces are still not enough to withstand a siege from such a large orc army.

-Elves WILL send forces to help, but the nearby Enclave is relatively small and mostly is offering powerful elite forces, but still a small amount (~200)

-Characters will have opportunity to save the Dwarven Prince likely next session (Dwarven Prince & 'Deep Wardens' [elite Underdark specops for the dwarves] are under attack from a large goblin warband)

So do you think just saving the Prince is enough, or should I throw in some side-quest to secure the alliance? And how should the Half-Orc wielding an Ancient Dwarven Relic go over? (dwarves do not like orcs, half-orcs are slightly more tolerable)

AND
Tips on running RP encounters involving royalty?
>>
The best argument the players can make in these circumstances IMO is that it's a choice of fighting an easier battle now or an impossible one later. If the elves and humans fail (and you know, they're not dwarves so...) then the orcs storm the surface and will ultimately come to war on the dwarves. The dwarves might be able to retreat into the underdark but the orcs will come there, too. Then they'll be besieged on both sides and although they may be mighty enough orcs will eventually overcome them.

If the player got his relic longsword from fighting with the orcs then you can seal the deal by pointing out their help would only be revenging previous attacks by the orcs, and hand over the longsword as a gift and evidence of dwarves killed by orcs.

tl;dr - I don't think the players need anything else beyond a convincing argument here, but if you want to give them a mission have the dwarves ask them to run disruption on their underdark foes to give them some breathing room.
>>
>>50129082
>Dwarves are Siege Masters and do not fear being besieged, already established lore.

>Not sure the assassin would want to give up his sword.

>not sure this group can form a convincing argument to get the Dwarves to help (they aren't strong RPers)

>MUH POLEARMS
>MUH SWORDS
>MUH AXES

Here's a more interesting idea.

In fantasy land, circumstances are of course different to our own. A man might have a hundred times the strength, or be a twenty foot giant. His enemy might be a human, sure, or he might be a lizardman with its built in scaly skin, or a dragon with thickened bones and musculature meaning that a spear can't even get through its flesh.

So here's the question. What real world weapons would have a more significant application in a fantasy setting? Alternately, what new ways of putting a knife on a stick could change man vs orc (or whatever) combat?

Polearms seem like they would be an asset vs. anything large and with a thick hide or scales. Same principle as a boar spear or w/e but magnified in scale. It might be that you would prioritize the absolute strongest penetration with ranged weapons over any other attribute.

For actual dungeon crawlers I think their gear would be totally different to what we normally see. Would you get a fully armored knight with sword and shield crawling around hundreds of feet below the earth? I feel like delvers would favor mobility and sword weapons that don't need a lot of room to use - short swords and spears, hatchets, crossbows and pistol crossbows. I don't know if they'd use a shield or if they'd just wear heavier armor on patches of their bodies - gauntlets, helmet, stuff like that.
>>
>>50129030
I think we'd see shields, yeah, at least for parties expecting lots of humanoid foes with crossbows. Folks already used to heavy armor would probably still wear it simply because it's what they know, and I've seen that backflip in plate video enough times to know that heavy armor isn't always restrictive. I think it'll depend to an extent on the person, on what's available to them, and what they're expecting.

I do think you've a good point with weapon selections.

It's trash, but the Goblin Slayer manga that was posted around here for a few weeks had some decent points on how someone might equip themselves to fight in warrens.

Are there any RPGs with crunchy, round-by-round, tactical combat that have minimal randomization or no dice rolls at all?

I want to capture that feeling from some well designed competitive video games where you win or lose MOSTLY because of your own tactical decisions and assessments, and minimally because of random chance.

Good video games can do it, so why not tabletop?

>>
>>50128694
Because most people don't want this when they are playing RPGs.
You should look at miniature/skirmish games.
>>
>>50128694
I'm actually looking into Silhouette as a system for a focus on tactical combat for something I'm planning on running. The dice system is fairly minimal and numbers stay small, but there is still a bit of bookkeeping.

It's probably worth looking into, at least. I do agree with this guy >>50128732 that you really want a sort of skirmish wargame more than something like D&D.

Yesterday I went to my LGS for a game to practice my harlequins:
1500 Harlequins:
Solitaire, Haywire Grenades (150)
3x Shadowseer, all ML2, Haywire, One with Mask of Secrets (105,90,90)
3x DJ, Haywire, One upgraded to Inriam's Spectre (65,65,70)
3x Troupe: Master, Embrace + 7 Players, 5x Kiss, 1x Embrace & 1x Ablative (181x3)
2x Skyweavers: 2 Skyweavers, Zephyrglaives (120x2)
Voidweaver, Prismatic Cannon (80)

Opponent's Necrons:
Decurion, not sure on the formations outside of:
Canoptek Harvest, 6x Wraiths, Spyder, Scarabs
Reclamation Legion
3x Tomb Blades
2x10 Warriors, 1 in ghost ark
CCB
10 Immortals in Night scythe
10 deathmarks

I rolled my warlord trait as +4 to sieze so I deployed 29" away from his models, allowing me to move up 6, and cast veil on each troupe to be 23" away ready for turn two.

I siezed and did just this. He moved his wraiths and tomb blades (WHY) forward up to the middle of the board, leaving both 17" away. Most of his units were between 20 and 22 away.

17" was too close though my turn two came, and my three troupes moved up rapidly. They each moved 6, ran at least 5" and prepared to charge. I got two troupes into the wraiths and one into the tomb blades, assuming I couldn't kill the wraiths in one round of combat and wanting that JOOCY first blood. I also had 'Kill a unit in combat' meaning I'd get 2 VPs. I used the unit with Inriam's for this as they were 1" from cover and had Shrouded, giving me a 2+ cover save if they aren't in combat.

In combat I removed 4 of the 6 wraiths, and as he was hitting me on 6s due to Fog of Dreams he only removed one Harlequin (and due to placement, it was one without a weapon upgrade). However, they were fearless so combat continued. The tomb blades were wiped and the troupe consolidated into combat.
>>
Posted this in the previous thread at the last second.

Why the fuck do I suck at getting rid of mould lines?

I always end up destroying the model's details. They're hard as fuck to remove. Am I using a shitty hobby knife? Not holding it at the right angle?

How long should it take to clean the mould lines off a model?

I want my shit to be awesome. When I post a painted model here, I don't want crudely drawn circles showing me where I fucked up.
>>
>>50128628

His CCB moved toward the Skyweavers but failed the charge of 5"! his warriors sat to keep an objective, and his ghost ark moved up to shoot the troupe out of combat. However he couldn't draw line of sight without moving over 6" and so had to snap fire guns. I lost no harlequins here, and in combat the two troupes fighting the wraiths were charged by scarabs and the spyder. Embraces mopped up the spider, while other attacks mopped up the last 2 wraiths.

My turn three, the solitaire blitzed towards his warriors in the backlines; a troupe prepared to kill a ghost ark, and the troupe that had just gotten out of combat moved towards his command barge. In assault I mopped up his units, leaving him with a squad of 10 warriors, and his reserves.
Luckily for him, they all came in.
He moved the night scythe on, popping the voidweaver & dropping out 10 immortals, who, combined with the recently transport-less warriors, killed an entire troupe with their shooting. His deathmarks came in and marked Inriam's unit, but the 2+ cover saved my ass.
I knew I had no hope of killing a night scythe so I focussed on the ground game, charging the warriors with my Solitaire and a troupe, while my four skyweavers and second (seriously weakened) troupe charged the immortals. I wiped the warriors but did ZERO wounds to the immortals thanks to some frankly unreal reanimations. We counted and he made 19 without taking a single wound. He killed nothing too so we piled in.
The next assault phase was more normal, and he lost 6 immortals before being swept.

Jump 187: GUNNM
>The Hermit, reversed (Self-imposed isolation from friends and loved ones.)
Well, it was my choice to go this route, but... yes.
>Age: 23
>Location: The Overlook (Bonuses: Knowledge of the Past, Mysterious Woman)
>Identity: Doctor
>Drawbacks: Deformed Body (+100), Legitimate Existential Angst (+200), Bounty (+200), Witch Hunt (+300)
So... a cyborg body that works at half the power that it should have for reasons no one can fathom, little to no knowledge of my past (not the first time), a price on my head... and a corrupt government in orbit that wants to kill me on top of it. Lovely.
>Medicine (Free, Doctor)
In a world like this, someone acting as a doctor is sorely needed.
>Cybernetics (1650, Doctor)
There are too many shoddy cyborgs running around. Perhaps I could make a living upgrading them into more human-seeming forms?
>Biotechnology (1350, Doctor)
Well, it's pretty important to be able to figure out how to upgrade a living being if they're going to be cyborgs. You definitely do not want to throw the baby out with the bath water. Save every cell you can, regenerate the damage if possible, and replace properly if not.
>Karmatron Dynamics (900, Doctor)
Now this is a whole new field. Chaos theory applied on the micro and macro scale. The possible implications of this combined with the rest of my technology is quite entertaining.
>Berserker Body (0)
Except it's not actually a Berserker, but an Imaginos v1. Well... no, more like Imaginos v0.5. It's running at half power, after all.

Now, this made for a very interesting jump. The first thing I knew, I was being put back together on a table, and who knows WHY I couldn't remember most things, but I must have struck my head when I was mugged and got retrograde amnesia. I could recall overarching themes, but not details, so it's a bit difficult to trust yourself as a doctor when that's the case.

Doubly so when I become suddenly aware that I'm in a cyborg body that no one's seen the like of before.

Triply so when suddenly people are coming after me, presumably because I have such a cyborg body and they want to know how I tick. I'm disinclined to share that information, though in time it becomes evident that this is NOT why they're after me, that's just a plus.

Quadruply so when I come to the gradual realization that I have friends that I should be seeing here and not a single one of them is to be found, not that I can even remember who they are, and now I've no longer got just bounty hunters after my head, but also what seem to be government agents, stepping up their game more as time goes on and escalating further. A near-miss with the Sword of Damocles was the worst of it - lost most of an arm, though luckily it regenerated with time. Let's hear it for going Imaginos.

I was not a part of the main plot, though Alita came after me a handful of times, initially for the (hilariously large) bounty on my head, and later because she became a TUNED agent - I had a habit of leaving the bounty hunters alive, and while I was generally not able to talk her out of fighting and every time she came after me, it meant that she knew I wasn't out there trying to kill anyone; I was just trying to survive like anyone else, and I'd have happily left the Scrapyard outright had its defenses not been seemingly programmed to stop me from leaving (lethally if need be).

I ran across Desty Nova once. Only once. He was not a fan of me, I was not a fan of him, but I was... interesting... because he found that I had a bio-chip. This was of course news to me, and raised ENTIRELY too many questions. Not even a year later, he went public with the bio-chips and the upper echelons of Tiphares' leadership quietly blamed me and wanted to eradicate me.

Beeple-beep beep! With their organization so faulty, especially the Departmento Munitorum, why hasn't the Imperial Guard shattered and decentralized? A decentralized set of smaller armies would be far more effective than what they currently have, and it makes sense for people to rebel and separate from an organization when it consistently fails them.

I like Light Cleric blasting + healing so far (level 3).

What are some good Cleric spell to prepare outside of combat though? Enhance Ability?

How feasible is it to convert the d20 to 3d6 in D&D 5e?
Advantage/disadvantage, crits and the like can be easily
converted I think. The problem I see is the flat +x bonuses of magic items and proficiency
but it might be fine if everything else scales accordingly.
What do you guys think?

Advantage and crits are going to be a bigger problem than you think because of the difference between result distributions.

You want to introduce the Bell Curve into 5E? Good luck?

the average of 3d6 occurs a lot more often than 1d20

you'll have many many more average and near average rolls than you will good or bad rolls

I think its a bad choice, it removes some of the randomness and fun

How the fuck do I create good one-shots?

Especially ones that are "scenarios" that evolve in time rather than "dungeons" that evolve in space?

Excuse me, But given the cost of super heavies and the cost of a meltagun per unit isn't it more pratical to build 100,000 meltaguns instead of a single supermelta baneblade?

>supermelta baneblade
That's a myth.

Anyway! While meltaguns are effective at destroying small vehicles the advantage of titan weaponry mounted onto tanks is that they can destroy vast divisions of troops in a single shot.
