>How do Planeswalkers find new planes?
By willing themselves to walk somewhere. With information, they can guide their own walking, and by following other planeswalkers, they can walk to the same place easily. They can, however, simply walk randomly if they need to or are desperate. (The first planeswalk after a spark igniting is always random as ignition is often a traumatic event, filled with a need for escape.)
>How often can they planeswalk in, let's say, a day?
That entirely depends on the individual. Post-Mending, planeswalkers are mortals and planeswalking is mildly draining, but 2 walks a day is absolutely manageable even for the weakest planeswalker. Stronger planeswalkers certainly could walk much, much more, I imagine Nicol Bolas would not tire of it at all.
>How the fuck does this shit work?
Planeswalking is basically moving along the W axis, called the Blind Eternities. If something not adequately protected by the Blind Eternities tries to move this way, it gets utterly annihilated. As of the Mending, the barrier to move through this direction is stronger and planeswalkers weaker. Before the Mending it was as trivial as thinking and it could be done freely, endlessly.

Who knows neowalkers fucked the lore since pre mending urza would accidentally walk onto planes of fire or moons and shit. If Jace accidentally the wrong plane with fucked physics or no oxygen like most planes as stated in the artifacts cycle he would die.
Modern mtg lore is a joke, just enjoy your ps2 cgi art and tapping creatures and dont think about it.

Looking for some help with a rules question and figured it would be a good enough excuse to have a general as well.
In l5R 3rd edition if a character is trying to influence or convince another character to do some thing how does it work? Is it a contested Awareness/Etiquette roll? highest wins? Or is there a set TNtbhit the "attacker" (person making the argument) has to reach to succeed in "hitting"?

I don't have that core book on hand, but have you read it yourself? In fourth, the "social attack" skills are Courtier, Intimidation, & Temptation, with Etiquette and Sincerity being "Social Defence". Third edition should be fairly similar.

What did I do wrong? What should I have done instead?

Just wondering what you fa/tg/uys think about 40k fluff wise. Regardless of the complaints I see often on the 40k novels and codices, I still enjoy reading it knowing its just pulp sci-fi and nothing more. But I was wondering if you think it could be more? I had to write an essay for literature class about good stories and the great storytelling that spawn (or spawn from) franchises, and the trick for particularly good stories is variety in both storytelling devices and genre.
Does anyone think this could be possible with 40k? Granted I don't know the lore extensively, so if you know of stories to check out that aren't just grimdark circle jerk about how honorable and muscle'y the space marines are, let me know
>>50140953
I'm pretty new to 40k Lore myself Anon, but I have heard some good things about the Ciaphas Cain novels. One of them being that they tone down the Grimderp enough for the Imperium to actually be livable.
But honestly, I feel like the Grimdarkness of he Lore just depends on how it's executed and Whether or not it serves a purpose besides being edgy. For instance Kriegers, broken husks of men and women, forged into the ideal soldier who never live long enough to recover their humanity, are pretty fucking cool, and even Daemonculabas, despite being the height of /d/egeneracy, are justifiable in their existence as they were needed to make those Chaos Space Marines.
>>50140953
I'd love to read a 40k novel set on a world like ours and there's no actual war.
I want to see the perspective of a regular citizen on a world that isn't an irradiated smog-covered shithole. I essentially want a regular slice of life modern story just with 40k as the setting/backdrop.
It's rife for small details in society and government. I'd imagine it would feel a bit like the Starship Trooper movie backdrop, that of a dictatorship/military complex but civvie life isn't actually that bad at all and there's plenty of freedoms. Just don't work against the state or you're fucked and the government generally doesn't care if you die in a foreign war (much like the IG tithe). Now imagine IG vets in this (our) society, how much more contrasting they would be.
I find 40k runs on exaggeration, so making a novel that subtle and different would be an amazing exercise for any writer and rife for expansion.
>>50140953
>Must it always be GRIMDARK
You are aware that the word "Grimdark" was coined by nerds on the internet from 40k's tagline, right?
The full spiel goes like this:
>It is the 41st Millennium. For more than a hundred centuries The Emperor has sat immobile on the Golden Throne of Earth. He is the Master of Mankind by the will of the gods, and master of a million worlds by the might of his inexhaustible armies. He is a rotting carcass writhing invisibly with power from the Dark Age of Technology. He is the Carrion Lord of the Imperium for whom a thousand souls are sacrificed every day, so that he may never truly die.
>Yet even in his deathless state, the Emperor continues his eternal vigilance. Mighty battlefleets cross the daemon-infested miasma of the Warp, the only route between distant stars, their way lit by the Astronomican, the psychic manifestation of the Emperor's will. Vast armies give battle in his name on uncounted worlds. Greatest amongst his soldiers are the Adeptus Astartes, the Space Marines, bio-engineered super-warriors. Their comrades in arms are legion: the Imperial Guard and countless planetary defence forces, the ever vigilant Inquisition and the tech-priests of the Adeptus Mechanicus to name only a few. But for all their multitudes, they are barely enough to hold off the ever-present threat from aliens, heretics, mutants - and worse.
>To be a man in such times is to be one amongst untold billions. It is to live in the cruelest and most bloody regime imaginable. These are the tales of those times. Forget the power of technology and science, for so much has been forgotten, never to be re-learned. Forget the promise of progress and understanding, for in the grim dark future there is only war. There is no peace amongst the stars, only an eternity of carnage and slaughter, and the laughter of thirsting gods.
So yeah, as a general rule, Grimdark is mandatory.
Doesn't mean there's not a place for comedy or relationships though.
How can giants and other monsters be handled properly in a relatively low fantasy setting? Should they be a part of a low fantasy setting at all?
They're reclusive and/or civilization stays the fuck away from them.
They're part of the dangerous unknown.
>>50140842
Easily. They're one of the less dramatic fantasy monsters. Just have them live sequestered from most of civilization usually, but then have one occasionally go and raid the puny human villages for food and sport. Then it has to be hunted down by some ballsy individuals.
It's similar to when a large bear starts rampaging around a countryside.
>>50140842
I usually like to think of giants/ogres/trooos as humans who had too much healing magic pumped into them, and it messed with their very genetics.
So now your healslut is capable of ruining entire lineages very easily.
And since these folks have enhanced healing and such, they can shrug off injury...but at the cost of further deformation. And so, they leave humans alone but are occassionally encountered.
There's something I still don't get about lawful evil characters.
The frequent example used for explaining the alignment is "the dictator".
But dictators make their own rules, and force others to live under them. Now, this whole "make your own rules" sounds more chaotic than lawful. A lawful character follows the rules, a chaotic one breaks them and makes it's own set.
Or maybe there's something I'm not getting right. Do chaotic chars don't believe in any kind of rules, not even ones made by themselves?
lawful evil follow a code and wont break it
the dictator makes his rules and press them on others but he himself would never break his code
a police officer or lawyer can also be evil
the interpret the law the worst way possible to be able to do evil things while still being all legal
lawful evil is : he is not wrong, but he is an asshole
Yeah, I see that a lot too. Not necessarily "dictator," but the example of a LE character being an important leader (corrupt baron or something) that can make up at least some of their own rules. Also doesn't help that most low level LE characters/villains wouldn't be able to do any of that.
With the usual caveats that alignment doesn't really matter and you should just do whatever makes sense to you etc., I think LE means more "is concerned with the public appearance of being lawful" than really about being lawful. Obviously that doesn't fit quite right, but I think it's good enough
>>50139437
Here's the thing: they're making and enforcing rule of law. It's the rule of their law, probably written for the benefit of themselves and their cronies, but it is law, and it is enforced. It's the same kind of order that Klaus Wulfenbach forced upon Europa.
Doing whatever the hell you like for your own benefit without regard to the law would be chaotic evil, much like doing what is right irrespective of the law is chaotic good.
How do people in your setting work out and exercise?
Can't really speak to the setting I play in because it hasn't come up, but here's a good video about a knight who did actually have a pretty awesome workout routine, Boucicaut.

Hello /tg/!
After much working on my RPG, I am finally ready to build a default world for them.
But I would like some opinions, injections, and things of that nature.
>The world itself
I'm going to write a multi-planet "universe" (It's really a local starsystem with about 60 or so planets of various types), that will support a large multitudes of types of games
There are technology levels spanning stone age to Plasma age, but for this excersize, I want to stick primarily with the Plasma age, which is the highest age achievable as of current.
Plasma Age has spaceships, and guns and all sorts of technology you'd primarily associate with a space faring age.
>Spaceships and movement
Space travel is primarily done through jump gates that are build around major and minor hubs, and act as highways. Larger ships can house personal hyperdrives that allow them to warp in straight lines, but with nowhere to stop for food in-between, they have to be sure not to starve to death between jumps.
And before I continue, what I basically need/want/desire is little things. Things about the Universe, specialty characters, shops, whatever, I'll continue to post what I have so far, starting with racial breakdowns.
Oh! and the system that I am building this world for is Ops and Tactics. You can google it and get the books.
>>50138857
>The Apple Store
A specialty shop which sells every type of apple breed and sub-breed that they can find.
>>50138857
>Races
This is the part I kinda got tripped up on
There are 3 kinds of what could be called "Humans"
>Terrans
From the planet Arche-Terra, they're the default humans in the setting.
What they're known for: Being comically diverse. If there is something that exist in the world, there is a human that absoloutely abhors it, and a human that fettishizes over it. Two humans will rarely agree on most things, and will never agree on exactly everything.
The "Preferred" weapon of the terrans is the rifle.
I don't have a makeup of Arche-terra, or a government, or states or whatever. Feel free to fill that in.
>Polarans
Polarans are a human-ish race that has accended from a singular home planet called Polaris. They are extremely resistant to cold, but falter in anything that's not cold. Due to their cold home planet, they are the pioneers of plasma technology, and the plasma fusion engine, as well as the coolant technology coupled with it. They use this technology to leave their home-planet and be useful outside of that specific temperature level.
Their prefered weapon is the plasarm.
There are two major factons to the Polarans, the Loyalist and the Purist, both claiming true heir to the Polaran throne. The loyalist are actually in power. Polaran society is organized in a large, confusing, and expansive monarchy.
Polaris is cold-very cold, has moderate vegetation, and lots of water, in the form of ice.
>>50138952
Written down. Thank you.
>>50138994
>Continuation of Races
The only other two races I have even some semblance of structure are two of the 3 Dragonraces, Kobolds and Dragonbreed
>Dragonbreed
The Dragonbreed are a race of caste, where the warrior is one of, if not the most prized positions one can hold. From a young age they are taught to use their claws, their breath weapon(If they are fully dragon breed and not a hybrid), and basic weapons like sticks. Further instruction is given in the art of more sophisticated weapons such as firearms, crossbows, knives, swords, and things of that nature.
It is not just the warrior who is held in high regard, but all those that support the warrior: the trainer and tactician who guides the younger ones to the right path, the farmer who farms meat that the warriors eat, the blacksmith, the armor, and the gunsmith, who supply the weapons to make the dragonbreed more deadly in combat, and generally any position that is beneficial to the warrior is in high regard. Being a mother is also highly sought after because mothers make Dragonbreed warriors. Despite this training and focus on the warrior, the dragonbreed are generally not aggressive unless provoked. Their society is deeply authoritarian, and it has the effect of Dragonbreeds generally being rather honest(As a rule), blunt, and forward thinking.
Another thing about the dragonbreed are that they have no concept of taste, as they are carnivores and their society doesn't really put much pressure or emphasis on taste and flavor.
Kobolds in the next post.
