The alignment is listed as neutral evil and we're told it's a tool of evil, but read the text - it cares about nothing except completing the task it is given, doing nothing but attempting to fulfill its duties until its existence ends.

That's the most lawful neutral thing I've ever heard of. How are they trying to justify neutral evil?

It's a hag's mind slave. That condition of slavery does not reflect upon its alignment. If it were somehow set free, it would behave in a neutral evil way.

It's not hard to understand. Dominated people don't suddenly change alignment either.
>>
>>50097672
They were invented by hags. And like everything hags make they are pure evil.

Hags are cool, but my group never uses them. The one time we fought them we accidently tricked a kraken into killing them for us.
>>
>>50097697
Hags are so fucking cool.

Even yugoloths, beings made of pure neutral evil, don't seem to be as evil as hags. Yugoloths may be completely self-interested mercenaries, but they don't have that touch of creativity or that bottomless spite. A night hag will devote her life to elaborately fucking with people, getting their hopes up and then dropping them into the depths of despair. Not because it benefits herself in any way, just for the lulz.

I've been running a totally homebrew Pokemon RPG for a few weeks now, it's my first time GMing anything and I'm new to tabletop RPGs in the first place having only played a bit of D&D and Dungeon World.

I'm running into two major problems which I'm not sure how to solve.

First of all it has already got too easy for the players, there are 4 of them, and they have reached Cerulean city and just defeated Misty, which was frankly too easy for them despite me putting very good pokemon out. The reason is that with 4 players, all having 6 pokemon, while i can only field 6, even if mine are better they can simply outlast me. Even after the two initial trainers required to be defeated. How the hell can i make this game harder in a game where they outnumber me 4 to 1.

The 2nd problem is a severe lack of direction and well, role play. I'm unsure what to do, the role play is the players in the world of pokemon, catching, training, exploring and defeating the gym leaders, but they also want more, they want me to throw in quests and adventures beyond that but which would surely result in an entire session where nothing much happens, it's hard to reward players beyond giving them money, items or skill points which i am keen to make develop slowly. I'm also very stuck for quest ideas in a pokemon world.

Another small problem is a player who insists on trying to do silly inappropriate things like kill old ladies and rape women, kills the fun pokemon vibe.

You should restrict battles to 1v1 or 2v2. 4v1 battles shouldn't happen, unless you're a member of Team Rocket. Also, give gym leaders teams that counter their own innate weaknesses. If one of the players beats the gym leader, the gym leader tells the rest of the party to take a hike, until he can heal his Pokemon.

Answer your second problem with another question. What is Team ______ doing? What are other trainers/gym leaders/members of the elite four doing? What would a modern-day Earth be like with Pokemon?
If you want something else to do aside from hopping from gym to gym, then do so. You could literally think of anything that would happen in the modern world and just add Pokemon.
Ambulance breaks down and needs transport? With Pokemon!
Cruise ship heist? With Pokemon!
Meet a movie director who's working on his next hit film? With Pokemon!

If you have a player acting like an idiot, talk to him about it. If he keeps acting like an idiot, ask him not to come back. Though, if he has it in his mind that rape is appropriate for a Pokemon game, then you should just ask him to leave.

Now for my own question. Why are you running a homebrew game, if it's your first time GMing?
>>
>>50097320
Restricting gym battles to 1v1 would make the battle last vastly longer, another solution i could do would be to only allow players to bring 1-2 pokemon into a gym battle but they are quite a whiny lot. They whine its OP and then win easily.
Cruise ship heist works since they'll be on the S.S anne soon, I'm just not that great at acting out roleplay, im not sure at what moments to be GM or to be a character talking.

I'm running this because it's a meetup event where people to come to play RPGs but a while back the few GMs we had disappeared so i quickly made up a Pokemon RPG using my actual cards and it was popular and has evolved into this where I've made character sheets, rules and all 151 pokemon with their own unique cards.
>>
>>50097135
Have gym leaders use multiple pokemon at once, and limit the total number of pokemon the challenging team can have. There's no reason to stick to the games mechanics of "every trainer only gets one pokemon at a time" when youre already breaking the rule of multiple people battling a single trainer. Fluff it under the assumption gym leader are in their position for a reason, and thus have cool battle techniques or some shitYou can still let them overall have more combatants on their side (since the gym will likely have quality mons) and they still only command one at a time, but this will help edge out the action economy and actually have satisfying fights.

I think that with planning and time, I wizard can do almost everything a barbarian can.

however, barbarians can do a lot of things (or at least, do somethings a lot better) than a wizard can without planning and time.

In particular, if the situation is both a surprise and make the characters in and immediate adversarial physical situation.

The advantage of the barbarian is situational.

Hey guys.

I was wondering if you guys have ever seen/read this:

https://gamingeveryman.wordpress.com/2014/02/10/the-math-behind-cr/

https://gamingeveryman.wordpress.com/2014/02/17/xp-rewards-for-fun-and-profit/

TLDR; Instead of using the APL of a party to determine the CR level of an encounter, then building the encounter based on the XP attached to the CR level, this guy has created a different system where each player's character at the table will contribute a certain amount of XP to a "pool" that can then be used to set up encounters.

Personally, it looks better than what's in the book. I'm probably gonna try running it in a game.

What do you guys think?

Utterly worthless.
>>
Any CR system is going to make assumptions about how capable a party is (capability comes from PC stats, behaviour and player skill). Whenever the PCs are more or less capable than assumed, the CR system fails to be useful in determining how difficult an encounter is.

Sometimes a party could have a serious hole in their capability that the CR system assumes isn't there. For example, a party with minimal/no ranged attack capability is going to have a lot of trouble with flying foes. Even if the CR says that the encounter should be very easy.

Or maybe the PCs come across a horde of melee enemies. The CR says that the fight should be very hard, but the players just sit on top of a cliff that the enemies can't climb and take them out from a safe distance.

My opinion is that CR systems are, at best, training wheels for inexperienced GMs. No amount of tweaking them is ever going to change that. Experienced GMs should move on to knowing enough about the system and the party that they have a good idea about how any encounter will go before it starts.

Hello everyone! So my friends and I are about to complete our campaign and we're starting to create new characters for the next. I've been playing D&D for about a year now so I think I finally know what I'm doing (at least a little lol). So for my next character I decided to go with a necromancer build. But thought it would be interesting to make my character some sort of undead. I was thinking maybe my character was resurrected by the gods I worshipped in my past life as a way of them saying, "your not done yet". Anyone have any experience with this? Is this even a thing? Is my imagination going to far? Let me know what you guys think!

>I've been playing D&D for about a year now so I think I finally know what I'm doing

And yet you apparently didn't think it worth mentioning what edition you are playing.

If you're doing 5e then you basically described the Revenant, so do that if your GM doesn't mind.
>>
>>50095464
If you play an undead, play it properly.
Make a skeleton and make as many skele-puns as you can.
>>
If you're playing 3rd edition, use the Book of Vile Darkness Bone and Corpse templates instead of a straight skeleton or zombie.

What do you have in your army as dedicated anti armor tanks?

I've been thinking about either buying..

3x Laser Destroyer Rapiers
Or
3x Valdor Tank Hunters
Or
3x Destroyer Tank Hunter

My Army is a pure armor army, so normal infantry won't work.

Also. What's good numbers of AA?

While theses are always a good choice because of their strength they won't work as effectively as a pure tank.

Valdor tank hunter is always a good choice, however it miss's half the time.

Destroyer Tank Hunter is a good choice since it's twin linked and can hit the target better but suffers in damage.

Ain't it odd, sometimes, how we view our fictional races, and what is an X or what isn't an X?

I understand I'm babbling, I apologize, but for an example to help, we can take a look at Dwarves, and their depictions.

When we think of Dwarves, most of us think of squat, chunky, bearded fellows wearing viking helmets with a culture focusing on mining, living underground or in mountains, alcohol, smithing, all that jazz, right? These might be called A Dwarves.

Well, isn't it odd how we can get rid of their culture, but for the most part keep their appearance, and still associate them with Dwarves? Say, turn them into squat, chunky, bearded fellows wearing martian suits with a culture focusing on knowledge, traveling space, magicks, worshipping old gods, and raising mushrooms for food? It sounds very weird, but as long as their beards are bushy and their stature stout, most of us can look at those and say "Yeah, those are Space Dwarves."

Then, consider this: A race of Mole-like or Ram-like people wearing viking helmets with a culture focusing on mining, living underground or in mountains, alcohol, smithing, but they're still called Dwarves. It may be harder for us to think of them as such, but we can still feel comfortable in calling them Dwarves if we learn enough of them, right?

However, why is it when we receive a race of Mole-like or Ram-like people wearing martian suits with a culture focusing on knowledge, traveling space, magicks, worshipping old gods, and raising mushrooms for food, we refuse to call them "Dwarves"?

Do you guys get what I'm saying here? Have you ever had anything like this going on with the races in your setting or DM's setting? Where am I going with this? How can I be this autistic and still function?
9 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>50093380
Certain terminologies stop applying after appearances change. Racial terms are heavily tied to appearance dating back to pre-history. If you looked different, you WERE different.

So, if two races that had differing evolutionary paths, but had, by chance, progressed to the point that they were similar in all but culture, met an outsider at the same time, he would call them both "X".
If one was substantially different from the other physically, he would call them "x" and "y".

You are breaking into a good section of world building here. Biology and Culture are heavily influenced by environment and heavily determine what a creature "is".

Logically speaking, your argument answers itself. Philosophically, it boils down to "Why?"

tl;dr if it looks like a duck, quacks like a duck and tastes like a duck, its probably not a fish.
>>
>>50093380
>However, why is it when we receive a race of Mole-like or Ram-like people wearing martian suits with a culture focusing on knowledge, traveling space, magicks, worshipping old gods, and raising mushrooms for food, we refuse to call them "Dwarves"?
Because nothing about that is like dwarves?
>>
>>50093380
Aren't Elder Scrolls dwarves not dwarflike at all? They're just elves.

Can someone explain to me how warhammer lords of change are even beatable?

On daemon worlds they apparently fight other demons, but lords of change are literally fate changing psychics. How are they not the least fair thing in the entire setting (which is an amazing feat in and of itself).

The explanation I read was they only lose if Tzeentch decided he wanted it that way. That doesn't even really count as winning.
8 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
Tzeentch's plans are so obtuse that the universe will end before they complete. You can still treat "I lost on purpose lolol" as a real victory at least half of the time because the advantage gained from losing there might never actually come into play.
>>
>>50093552
This. Lords of Change are still slaves to the fuckcrazy whims of their master. On top of this, Lords of Change are also susceptible to overplanning and overstimulation, so they get merc'd in the here-and-now while they're busy planning eighteen-hundred steps ahead.
>>
>>50093360
Tzeentch generally has the least amount of followers however to compensate they tend to have a greater capacity for power. Its mentioned in some of the fluff that occasionally the other three group together to bring him down a peg as he is constantly scheming and rising in power.

Looking at his demons its fair to say that most times they lose to the others in combat. However realistically they've lost by getting to that point anyway. Why fight yourself when you can plot to force the other 3 powers to fight amongst themselves and then swoop in and claim the prize.

As for the Tzeentch only losing if he decides to, no. Its not the end goal that tzeentch is planning for, it's the planning itself that gets him off.
