Depends on how you define "top all time".

If by overall playing ability, then he's easily top 5. Others were more influential or had higher peaks though.

I have never played a RPG before

Any advice how I can go about learning this system and being GM?

I have the beginners box and the core rules arriving soon. Do I have to memorise all that shit? Its like 600 pages

How can I on-board new players?

Advice and anecdotes welcome

Pick a game that isn't dog shit, instead.

Seriously: 3.xpf is the worst game, period. It is bad. You are bad for giving them money. Your theoretical friends are bad for agreeing to learn it.

Sometimes fun is bad and wrong, and you're investing a lot of time to try it out.
>>

> Do I have to memorise all that shit? Its like 600 pages

No. The important bits in the short term are:

- the combat rules (don't worry too much about grappling, nobody uses that)
- the basics for adventuring related skills - e.g. Acrobatics, dungeon-related Knowledge, etc.
- the rules for survival rolls and encumbrance, IF you are the kind of GM who wants to do old-school dungeon crawls instead of action adventure

The best rule of thumb, though, is "Yes, but" or "Yes, and". That is to say, if the PCs want to do something weird or cool that doesn't directly contradict the rules, let them do it, BUT have it result in interesting consequences.
>>
>>50120910
Thank you. This is the kind of advice I am looking for.

One thing I dont get about the combat is the move five feet thing...

Why would you move only 5 feet if you have up to 30 to use? Does moving only 5 feet give you better combat options?

Rolled 1, 2, 3, 3, 2, 2 = 13 (6d6)

Reposting.

This is perhaps the deadliest generic HQ I have come up with yet.

Archmagos Reductor, 155
+Cyber-Familiar, 15
+Augury Scanner, 5
+Abeyant, 25
+Djinn-Skein, 25
+Machinator Array, 25
+Master Crafted Paragon Blade, 30
+Melta Bombs, 5
+Four Cyber-Occularis, 60
+Rad Grenades, 5
+Power Fist, 15
+Volkite Charger, 10
Total, 400

BS5 WS5 S5 T6 W4 I4 A2 Ld10 2+/3++

Independant Character
Stubborn
Battlesmith
Master of Destruction
Bodyguard
Relentless
Move Through Cover
Very Bulky
It Will Not Die
Hardened Armor

Rad Grenades let him ID T4 at initiative with his Paragon Blade, Power Fist gives his paragon blade an extra attack or vice-versa, machinator array makes him T6 and gives two extra S+1 AP2 Shred Unwieldy Armourbane attacks, an Inferno Pistol and Flamer, Abeyant makes him W4 and a whole slew of other rules. Nothing will Deepstrike near him. Nothing will harm him with his 2+/3++.

How deadly would you rate him, per his ridiculous points cost?

And now to make him even more ded-killy.

Pretty nasty, might be able to take some of the weaker primarchs if he charges. Most will put him down though. About right for the point cost.

Yes, anons, THREE subclasses of barbarians are coming this month. So, we've got an armored barbarian (battlerager), a generic barbarian (berserker) and a mystical spirit worshipper kind of guy (totem warrior). Which concepts do you think they will cover in those new subclasses?

Do you allow your players to sleep in full-plate or battledress in case of assassination attempts/vampires at the expense of only partial rest benefit/soreness debuff?

Once you get high level enough as a warrior you should stop having such penalties, as a side-effect of you just getting so badass, along with the likes of being able to carve through entire mountains, leap through the sky with the greatest of ease and catch arrows in your teeth
>>
>>50119699
I think if you spend enough time in heavy armor, you should just get its use as a trick in high fantasy.
But I like systems where at the point where they're famous enough to earn the attention of a vampire, a warrior would be capable of at least holding their own without their armor as well as a mage.
>>
>>50119699
Haven't had to address it yet, but it would probably be something like

>if a week or longer elapses in which your character sleeps in armor heavier than light armor (i.e. leather, hide, and the like), he will begin to accrue penalties from discomfort.

The idea is that it might be a little uncomfortable during that first week, depending on the armor, but it only gets to the point of penalizing the character after a week. If they have magic or mithril or something that makes their armor encumber them as if it was light armor, then I'd rule it's comfy or light enough to sleep in without ill effect.

>>50119787
This makes sense. I think it depends on the type of game you're playing.

How do I deal with edgelords?

>>
>How do I deal with edgelords?
If you are the GM, don't invite them to your group. Otherwise, just be mature and don't encourage them.
>How do I make an edgy rogue reform and go clean?
Whether you are GM or player: you pretty much can't. If the way they are playing is so problematic, the group needs to have an out-of-game discussion about campaign expectations that should have been had before the campaign began.
>>
Often in games harming another is very "clean". Violence and stealing are easy and usually the easiest and most effective paths. Show them their actions in a realistic light. Describe the fear and suffering they sow coldly and have the world react the way it really would. Most people aren't truly sadistic and don't want to see how ugly their actions really are, it's just easy in games.

Now if you're dealing with an actual sadist it's a whole other situation.
>>
people throw around the word edgy a little too easily these days, care to explain OP?

Why the fuck would anybody ever wear MK IV power armor? It's just ass. MK II and MK III at least offer superior strength and MK II comes with a hell of a lot more prestige, MK VI is objectively the best armor when master crafted, and MK VII is the standard, most durable of the lot barring artificer work.

Same reason anyone does anything in 40k.
Because it looks cool.

Also because if you're playing by the rules, you're going to randomly get MKIV armor, and your chances of getting MKII and III are minimal at best.

Buying these power armors in deathwatch isn't a thing, after all.

I still think it's a fun idea. lots of weird monsters and hostile terrain, disease and natural toxins, sparse villages that may or may not be hostile that you might have trouble communicating with, mysterious old shit overgrown with vines, etc.
