I found these images on Pinterest - it was a whole shoot where all the shots have the subject out of focus.
Am I missing something?

Correct exposure and being in focus means nothing if you have a strong subject look at daido or araki. The subject always trumps technical perfection. Look in the RPT most of those photos are in focus and exposed correctly but they are boring and forgetable.

I guess you meant don't have a strong subject, but this subject isn't really strong could be any instagram camwhore who had her bf take these shots with a point and shoot/phone

Not unless you're a phenomenal talent and can sell prints.
Since I know you made this thread and are asking this question, the answer is no.
Your best bet would be documentary shots.
Pair with a writer and sell a book about something.
Straight answer: No. Forget it sugar, you won't profit.
You can add some money to your monthly income by selling prints or documentary something. But to make a living, you would've to live in a RV....
Good morning, /p/
I've just finished a new blog post that has everything I know about GND filters packed into it. I seem to get a lot of questions about them from here but even more from other sources so I figured it was time to do a detailed write-up. Here's the post: http://www.alexburkephoto.com/blog/2016/8/30/gnd-filters-getting-the-perfect-exposure-in-one-shot
While I'm at it, maybe I'll dump a few recent photos. Not a whole lot for now, I'm pretty far behind on scanning and editing. I figured I'd start with an old photo of gear to really get /p/ going.

Alex, do you still use a V700 to scan with? Have you tried getting any of your images drumscanned? Drumscanning is wicked!

I just received my first set of metal prints, I got them from Adoramapix and they're a lot darker than I thought they'd be.
Colors seem relatively flat as well which is a bit disappointing, I'm unsure if this is normal or I just got shitty prints?

This one the mountains in the back are basically flat grey instead of blue, as with the sky. Trees almost look de-saturated on the metal print.
The plane itself has a cool 3Dish effect though.
Sorry for the larger pics - just trying to put the bigger sized ones for comparison.
Is my screen that off possibly? I'm on a Dell Ultrasharp and believe it should be pretty within the ballpark.

I also use a Dell Ultrasharp too with Spyder color calibration and have been very happy with almost a dozen prints done by Magnachrome.
Do you have calibration technology?
Is your monitor in a dark room? Is there glare behind or on the monitor?

I'm trying to learn basics on photography but everything i find is just gibberish for me. I don't know anything, so do you have any recommendations, sites, forums anything.
Btw this is a photo taken with my phone and edited with Lightroom.
>>2918974
I learned everything from trial and error at first. Bought a DSLR and starting going out every chance I got. My first photos are fucking horrible, but I can confidently say that within a year's time I am now better than most of my friends and even better than some of my professors and friends who have been shooting 20+ years. I learned a lot of stuff from reading David Prakel, Lynda, Strobist, and some of the old ASC manuals and journals. I always listen and obseremy friends and teachers critically. Fail fast, and fail often. You will get the hand of it eventually. There is a lot on YouTube and Lynda that will help you a lot. But ultimately, you need to get the fuck out there and start shooting. But when you do, really consider your photos. Start looking at other people's photos and see what you like, and what you don't like. But at the end of the day, listen to your intuition and be confident, you will get the hang of it soon enough you'll be taking photos you have always dreamt about.
Go to your local library and take out a beginner photography book. Otherwise I have no idea how that was gibberish, its all the same language. Did you try for 5 minutes and give up?
