Lens suggestions for street photography? Preferably under $200
Just use your fucking kit lens. Learn how to google shit. Fuck.
>>2921840
I want suggestions from people who have first hand accounts of their lenses and can give me insight on which ones they prefer. I've owned the fucking kit lenses for over a year now and I'm tired of their shitty oversensitive focus rings and want a fixed lens better than a fucking 18-55mm and a 55-200mm. Google just throws out random articles and I don't want to spend hours looking at 20 different articles saying 20 different lenses are the "best lens" for street photography. If you don't have any suggestions to give me then kindly fuck off, prick.
>>2921870
If you can't figure it out yourself, then you need to keep using your kit more. Keep it locked at various focal lengths for extended periods of time and see which you prefer. Typical street photography focal lengths range from 24mm-50mm, wide to standard range.
Posted before in the recent photo thread but I have way too many photos now so I'm making a thread.
What am I doing wrong?

Monitors are a pretty important piece of gear for editing and since I'm looking to buy a new one, let's see what everyone uses.
I'm currently using a 18.4" 1080p MSI laptop. I assumed the brand would mean a great monitor and while it's fine for games, the blacks are just putrid.
I'm looking at a 27" 1440p or 4k monitor now.
In your opinion, is size, resolution or colour most important for efficient editing?

You won't get many replies here. Most of the 'prosumer' photogs here use macbooks because the hobby lends itself to the emulation of luddites. They know nothing about monitors
>>2921685
Yeah was curious about what level of interaction I'd get. I have seen a good amount of people telling others to have their colours calibrated and tested so I thought there might be a few responses to this.
Whats the best cheap tripod out there, I need it.

Do you know that you can take photography classes on coursera.org?
This is the first one in their specialization: https://www.coursera.org/learn/exposure-photography
Is anybody else taking these? I just finished with the first one and I honestly don't know what should I think. Pictures shown and discussed in the class (main topics are vantage point and framing) are very mediocre to my untrained eye.
What really sucks though is that you can't participate in exercises if you don't pay for the course and you only audit it.
At first I thought it was just a lot of babbling about how the course presenter took his photos and what he was thinking. But I figured then that I should think more about the scene when I'm taking pictures. So this is kinda my takeaway from the first course. Would love to hear someone else's opinion.
Pic related is from the instructor of the course.

Yup, also Stanford prof released those lectures for Google (garbage audio though) around a week ago, plus if you subscribe to cc, you get access to Adobe classes
Morning here in Houston,
How ya'll guise doing?
Listen, my wife just graduated and I'd like to save up to buy her an excellent camera we could use for the next decade or so. But with the job and time-frame I have, I can't afford anything over $500ish. So I've found a few cameras, but I need your opinions and suggestions. I've seen a lot of compact "mirrorless" cameras, those any good, or just a fad? Basically, what can take a solid landscape photo, nail that action shot of the jumping dog, and capture candid low-light shots?
Canon EOS Rebel SL1---$509
Canon EOS M10 0922C011 Mirrorless w/15-45mm--$450

Even this camera (for example) which is like about 6000$ will be outdated in what, 5 years ?
Let me give you an example. The nokia 3310 is a 16 years old phone. And there is the (shitty) iPhone 7 incoming, you don't even realise what has changed during those years.
What do you guys think of this music video I shot and edited for my friend? The stabilizer on Sony Vegas wasn't working so it is a little shaky. It was my first time doing animation, I was inspired by Denzel Curry's videos. Any feedback would be appreciated because I plan on doing more. I wasn't very serious when making this video but I plan on doing a lot more work for the next.

Get a decent steadycam, will improve footage a lot. Learn about colour grading and film with a decent camera. Editing was mostly shit.
But apart from that it was better than quite a lot of shitty rap videos out there.

Hey, quick question. If someone would be 300 feet up in the air at night in the middle of a forest and the only lightsources would be distant citylights and he cant use a tripod up there, what kind of settings would he need to put approximately in his camera? Asking this for my friends doggo thats going on an adventure soon.
pls respond
>>2920262
let him test it himself. It will takes like 5 minutes, and he will learn much more.
>>2920290
He doesn't want to fuck up in a unique situation like that so just some guidance is being hoped for.
hi looking to convert some of my older photos to digital for sake of archiving them while its still possible to.
can /p/ recomend any makes of scanners? any i should avoid?
Available budget is about £50 [$66/59.07 Euro]
Do you own a camera with a macro lens?
>>2920110
>Have you heard of our lord Jesus Christ?
OP, run, now.
>>2920112
The budget is £50.
His other options are a cheap flatbed scanner and the thing from OP picture, which is essentially a shitty smartphone camera with a macro lens inside a box.
A friend of a friend asked me if I was willing to shoot his wife's birthday, I've never done it before, and I was wondering if /p/ could enlighten me, to see if its my kind of thing.
I would also like to know if there is like a photo list (kinda like that wedding checklist that pops about every once in a while)
Also, feel free to ask or share any other thing about videography or photography for events.
Early morning bunp

> A friend of a friend asked me if I was willing to shoot his wife's birthday, I've never done it before, and I was wondering if /p/ could enlighten me, to see if its my kind of thing.
How would I know if you'd have fun while shooting a birthday party?
If you want to know if you will do it to a good standard as you are equipped now, the answer is no.
Someone with good lenses and good lighting equipment and a bunch of routines in a bunch of situations doesn't have to ask.
It doesn't require much at all to get there (a few thousand dollars, plus a bunch of hours working out how to reliably do your preferred setups or learning how the equipment works), but you don't have it. Or you'd not have to ask like this.
>>2919974
Kek. Complete tard
>I usually shoot wildlife. My friend asked me to take photos of his car, does anyone have any tips.
No faggot, you can only shot one thing in your life.
Hey, /p/
I need some advice.
I recently had a company reach out to me if I could be a stringer this season to cover some football games. I figured that I shouldn't turn down the opportunity for photography related work especially if there's compensation involved.
The thing is though, is that I've never shot sports photography. My portfolio has always centered around model portraiture and street photography.
However, I shoot with a babby's first rebel and push my skills as much as possible to compensate for the gear. It's limited at lowlight and the only telephoto I have is an 18-135mm zoom lens. I might be able to borrow a friends 75-300mm though.
I also own a 10-22mm lens, but how often are wide angle lenses used for sports photography with good results? I also have the nifty fifty for portraits, but I'm sure they're gonna want more action shots than portraits.
I don't have any funds to upgrade and I don't have the specifics either of how much I'll be making out of this, so I don't think I should invest in gear yet.
My question is, what can I do short of racking up my actuations during the game to get decent shots? What kind of shots should I go after to get into the rhythm? I think the majority of the school games are held in the evening/night which also adds another challenge.

Then don't take the job unless they know what they are getting from you. Forget any fast sports in low light or decent shutter speeds with your gear.
Find out if they would cover some gear rentals. For football you want that reach. The borrowed 75-300 might be ok if you have enough light
>>2919726
Rental gear is your only option. Sports requires at least 100, most pro shooters are 400 and above.
Don't walk in there with a 22 unless you're taking scenic landscapes of the field.
Rent a fast tele, then proceed to rack your actuation right the fuck up in raw mode. Bring a lot of SD cards.

I repeat, ANYTHING GEAR RELATED goes in here!
And don't forget, be polite.
Does anyone have a good recommendation for a sub 250 "studio" kit? Found some good ones on jet and Amazon with 4 4 light soft boxes, stands, and a backdrop/stand. Not too sure of the quality but really missing the old spot my pals had for portraits and the good ol glam jam beauty shots ;-)
Just found fungus on my favourite pentax 1.7 50mm and it looks like worms growing in there. I'm physically disgusted.
What to clean it with when I take it apart?

Alcohol
Anyone else work as a nomadic photographer? My wife and I sold everything we own about 6 months ago and bought an RV. We travel and take pictures for a vacation rental company. Loving the RV life. Anyone else travel and work full time as a photographer?
