Hey everyone, I was thinking of ways to spice up /p/ and do something fun. I had an idea that each week we choose a picture by a well recognized photographer, and attempt to mimic it. Would anyone be up to do it? The picture chosen would have to be something that can be easily done, but has some sense of challenge to it. This is a picture I'd like to see done, but tell me your thoughts on the idea.

its cool, but dont use that pic.
we could have a first part of suggesting ideas, then you create a new thread with the official image to be mimicked.
that william klein photo of a kid with a gun would be cool to try and do. also tiananmen guy.
also some gregory crewdson piece. and some witkin too.

Looking at used Pentax cameras and the k5-ii's seem to be going for about $300-400
How many shutters should I be looking at? I need to buy used because it's like 50% retail from what I've seen.
How much should I spend on a 50mm prime?
Eyeing a pentax 645.
Already own a rb67 but rarely use because no meter and literally a brick.

It'd be a good idea
Why in the hell would anyone want a variable aperture lens, especially one that costs $2,000? I assume wildlife photographers don't give a shit about low life capabilities but to argue that this is better than the 70-200 2.8...
Kind of surprised canon sells L glass with this characteristic. Keeps costs low I guess. Or maybe a 2.8 depth of field is so small at 400mm it's useless anyways? *shrug*
Someone once made a lens of this type an f/2.8
Here's how big it was. The SHEER SIZE and BLEEDING COST are the primary reason.
Because real photographers go out and take pictures with lenses that meet their requirements. Such requirements as sharpness, AF speed, focal length coverage, and not being constant aperture for the sake of being so.
Also, the 200-400/4 is a $5000 lens. And by your logic, the Nikon 200-500/5.6 is a better lens than the AF-S 80-400. It's better... at price. And very good, at that.
>>2913568
ALMIGHTY BIGMA
How were they able to keep the 70-200 2.8 at a reasonable size? Do you need enormous glass past 200mm for a zoom? (especially if it's constant aperture)

Found this stashed in some old boxes, belonged to my dad.
Looks pretty cool, do you think it still works guys?
Thought of getting a film and trying it out
>>2920606
I'd start with reading the sticky
check the battery and the light cell to be sure you can know if your picture is gonna be overexposed or not..
But yeah, it should work, since it's all mechanic except the light sensor.
>do you think it still works guys?
If you're the kind of person to make a thread on /p/ asking that instead of taking the camera in your hands and figuring out how/if it works/doing the minimum barebones google search if you're too inept to grasp basic cause and effect interactions in a piece of clearly labelled mechanics, then you really seriously non-sarcastically are not the kind of person who should be considering film photography to any degree.
Think of it as the cooking equivalent of posting a photo of a knife on /ck/ asking "Hey guys do you think this is sharp? Thought of buying a zucchini and making some ratatouille."
Hey p, first off all, this is a "gearthread" one I will find usefull, but might not be intresting to you so feel free to hide it.
I'll be traveling to africa, and I'll do the whole coastline by ground transportation so weight is key.
The camera needs last long(battary), stand sand and maybe a bump or to.
The quality is not so important, but i would wan't to blow some of the pictures upp a bit, but don't worry to much about it. What else should I consider?
I will not post a pricerange so anny helpful pointers will be apreciated.
Bonus question, do you think it's possible to get film for vintage cameras in africa?
Anny questions, feel free to ask and I realy hope someone will take there time helping me out with my troubbles.
Pic is taken with my sony phone, 4chan ruins the quality, but this is the reason I wan't something better.

Sup /p/, long time no talk. How's everything been?
Anyway, I have Mikey's Pentax 6x7 (which according to the serial number is very, very old) and finally got a battery for it. I like shooting with it so I want to start using it more, but that means I'm in the market for a scanner that can scan 120 film. I was looking at the canoscan 9000f mkII or the Epson V600. Anyone here use either of those? Any feedback or recommendations? If it's a significantly worthy upgrade I will hold out and save up for something better like an Epson v800, but I don't have the budget for it right now.
Most of my prints won't be larger than 13x19 but I'd like to be able to go larger. Currently I make prints that size from my D700 images which I'm happy with.
And here's some old photo I took that I've probably posted here before.

Hey guys I need help. I’m a digital photography major and my final project for my lighting class is all about advertising. I chose Heinz ketchup for my product but I’m having a hard time deciding on the ads. These are the bottles I have to have ideas for.
Use a stereotypical and racist example for each one. Put a mexican in a hotdog bun for the spicy one. Coat a fat girl in the reduced sugar one amd claim it is empowered and helps battle fat shaming. Hipster looking swj eating a bowl of the organic stuff with a spork.
Man I'm good at being creative. Why aren't I in art school getting a degree I will never pay off with my future walmart photo technician job?

>original ideas based off the style of the ad I’m recreating
so they have to be original but also based on the photo in the OP? what sort of balance are you supposed to be striking between those two completely contradictory demands
