I've got an olympus omd-em10 mk2 and am relatively new to photography, and looking to buy a new lens.
At this point I have the kit lens and the olympus 25mm 1.8.
I'm tossing up between getting a wider prime like the 17mm f1.8 from olympus or forking out a bit more for the 12-40mm 2.8 fixed aperture
Looking to use one of these lenses for a holiday coming up and maybe some light video use, what do you think?

I recommend a good zoom. Use it as your main daytime lens, then switch to your prime(s) at night. This is really the best way to get the most out of your low light performance.
Since you've got Micro Four Thirds, start trolling thrift stores so you can pick up some old glass too.
I have an E-M5 mk2. I use an m.zuiko 25mm as my basic prime lens. It's very easy to use, and practical.
However, I've really been getting into vintage lenses. I'm gonna go pick up a Helios 44M-4 today and take it out for shooting tomorrow. I have no idea what results I'll get.
One thing to keep in mind with M4/3 cameras and old lenses is that the focal length is doubled as the sensor is half the size. This makes a classic 50mm lens act like a 100mm. It can be halfway solved with focal reducers, but they're not ideal.
Here's some pictures from Iceland, any critiques?

Do any of you calibrate your displays?
How important is it?
>>2923774
i thought that was a coffee maker. i have a moka pot btw.
>>2923774
Yes, critical if you want to sell or print.
Everyone that doesn't have hardware calibration will disagree, because they're too poor to spend $150 on something so 'boring'. Or they will be under the false allusion that their apple retina screens are shipped with good calibration so it's not needed.
>>2923774
Depends on how important the rest of your workflow is. I have an expensive camera, printing gear and display, so having calibration for it all is a pretty no-brainer move. what's $150 when you've already spent like $20,000 at least.

Digital Still Camera
I'm looking to buy a camera so I can record decent/high quality HD videos to post on YouTube as well as take some pictures when I travel to different countries.
I've got a budget of about $500-$800AUD. So I know I'm not going to get the most amazing camera but I want something that isn't trash like my previous $99 Polaroid digital camera.
I don't really know all that much about cameras so I haven't been willing to go into a store and buy one with out finding out a little more about them or at least getting some recommendations.
Besides wanting to be able to shoot some good HD video I don't really have any requirements but a camera like the Canon EOS M10 with a rotating monitor could be quite helpful with recording my videos. But again it's not super necessary.
What are your suggestions /p/ ?

>>2924084
In my experience, Velvia 100F is just very...sterile. It is still a more saturated slide film, but it doesn't have that vibrancy that 50 has, but at the same time it doesn't have enough characteristic to really stand out like a lot of other films. It's just perfectly adequate.
Don't you think the price of medium format digital cameras is a little absurd? Let's take the 51 megapixel Pentax 645Z, for example. At $7000, you get 51 megapixels. That might sound like a lot of megapixels, but keep in mind that they're coming in at a cost of roughly $137 per megapixel! At that rate, Pentax is only offering just a little more than 7 megapixels per one thousand dollars. Canon's 50 megapixel camera is much more budget conscious at $70 per megapixel. While that's a bit of a premium for the Canon brand name, seeing as you can get deals as good as $24 per megapixels from even Nikon's lower end cameras, it's a steal compared to the exorbitant prices proposed per pixel by Pentax. Select all the squares with street signs.
If you don't like it don't buy it retard.
>>2923607
Are you actually asking this question seriously? Do you actually not understand the difference between size and quality of pixels?
>>2923610
You do realize that the quality of a pixel is irrelevant when we're talking in terms of megapixels, right?

>whats a good time interval between shots?
There is some arithmetic involved in determining this. How long of a time do you have during which to shoot, how long of playback are you going for, and what is your playback fps? I usually lock the shutter on continuous shooting, and set the shutter speed at 30 seconds, so im basically getting an interval of 30 seconds (and some change because of between shots lag time).
Also, here's on of my ones from a few weeks ago. I posted these before, but they were really noisy. I feel that I have better managed the noise in this round of edits.
