Where do you buy venison in NJ?

You don't. If you can afford meat you buy something else that tastes good and isnt infected by CJD
>>
>>877170
You are more likely to be a homicide victim than getting CJD. Please go back to /an/

I accidentally crossed last week one of those while out and now I'm astonished. Do you have any experience with them? Are they similar to American meme trails?

Yes except they are generally paved and currently full of Merkels children

yeah, eurofag here
In France, GR trails are nice
Mix of State parc, local parc, forest and field
A little town every 15 km and no designated campsite. It's not widerness but it's nice and easy. May & June are sweet.

I have some experience, but mostly from sweden.

Swedish hiking trails are the best ones i've ever walked. I've hiked a little bit in Switzerland and Italy as well, but the trails are much more crowded further south in europe. I hiked a swiss trail on mountain ridges about 80 kilometers a few years ago, and every five minutes I passed some random stranger who(in terribly accented english), asked me for directions.

Just this summer I hiked 425 kilometers on the King's Trail in sweden, and I saw maybe 10 people during the whole four weeks. Amazing calm, solitude, and scenery that would've given Peter Jackson the orgasm of his life.

If there are any americans who long for hiking in europe, I strongly recommend the Swedish north as a destination.

If you're going to spend a few months thru hiking the AT or PCT, what would be some advantages to hiking by yourself rather than with one other person? or is it better to bring someone with you
38 posts and 5 images submitted.
>>
>Solo hiking, better bring a gun
>Cant trust the person I'm with, better bring a gun

They both seem like fine options to me.
I'm actually down here near the start of the PCT, made a little day hike on it last weekend.
>>
>>876506
>good thing about being solo
When you run out of food, you just kill a stranger and eat them. You will feel less guilty than if you brought a friend and ate them.
>>
>>876509
You don't need a gun
>>876514
it's not that serious

It's easier to hike your own hike when you go solo. The AT and PCT are really social trails and you'll make friends on trail

Thinking about buying a new pocket knife, what would you recommend? Pic related is the one I use. Tiny as shit

Folder? How much do you want to spend? Do you want a multitool or just a knife?

If just a knife, there is also the option of straight knives. Ever since I got that little CRKT, I don't think I will go back to a folder.
>>
>>876427
Crkt m16. Whichever one is nonserrated drop point. No tanto garbage.
>>
>>876427
What are you going to use it for? That's how you select the tool, by what job it needs to be doing.

Hey /out/ Im looking to get into surfing. Im a 6'3" guy and looking to get a board good for my size that I can progress on. I found a 8 foot used board from craigslist that looks good but a buddy of mine said i should look to get one at least 3 feet taller than me. Any advice or tips for a newbie. Should I know some stuff other than getting in the way of getting in the way out there in the water?

Take some lessons before spending $$ on a board. The learning curve is pretty steep.

I think /sp/ or /asp/ would be more appropriate for this question.

Hey /out/,

What are some good, yet cheap, brands of out stuff? I currently need a good rain jacket, and my fiancee needs a rain jacket, soft shell, and a fleece. Now, if we were to go to REI, we'd have to drop $800+ on all of this stuff. What are some stores/brands that have the same effectiveness without the price tag?
13 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
thrift stores and consignment shops.
>>
>>876172
Wtf? My rain jacket is Columbia and cost me 40 bucks. Its fucking solid.

Membrands are ok if you got the money
>>
>>876172
Whatever that pic is. Get it.

For shorter trips, I've actually found uniqlo has some good stuff. Airism mesh shirts and trunks, packabe rain shell, packable down jacket, water resistant. The jackets arent super cheap, but they're half of what /out/ brands cost. I say shorter trips because I'm not super confident in their durability, but no problems yet.

Seriously considering moving out to the boonies in a northern state for the winter. Close to a tiny one-store town. It will be a wood stove cabin, and since my car doesn't have 4-wheel drive I'll be snowed in often. I've camped before in the winter, and I'm no stranger to brutal conditions, but I'm female and I'll probably be living alone. I will have a rifle or a shotgun, I'll get a couple of dogs, and I'm seeing about rounding up roommates. What do I need to know?

Do anyone have experience with maturing, bending and tempering bamboo? Any tips and tricks for it?

Sand can be lumpy and uncomfortable. Smooth it out before you set up your tent.
>>
>>872058
know where maximum tide is and camp at least 4-5m away from that line.
Look out for sticks and sharp shells that could damage your tent floor.
Prepare for heavy wind in some areas, that means set up your tent properly and face your tent opening away from the wind so shit doesnt get blown in.

Have fun
>>
>>872058
Wash your tent and gear well after you leave if there's salt water involved.

Me, pic related, today. I love my Can Am Outlander 650 V-Twin!

I have been "around" and ridden many make and models. I used to run ATV tours on 500cc Arctic Cats, among other brands.

This one is the best, so far.

Hello /out/, the area I live in doesn't have any hills, but I want to get into hiking. On top of this, I'm not very in shape. Advice for a beginner? Footwear, packing? Should I try to get more in shape before I go /out/?
9 posts and 1 images submitted.

My best advice is to get out of any shithole of a state without any good forest, hills, or deserts to hike in. Search around on google to see if you can find anything about wildlife management areas, state forests, national forests, etc for your state. Regarding equipment and getting fit and the like, that's not needed unless you are planning on camping. If the area has a solid trail to stay on and you are going for a day hike, you can get by if you need to in a solid pair of tennis shoes as long as you know you can go for ~6 miles. Please do not try to go hiking in crocs, flip flops, sneakers, or other shitty footwear. Bring a backpack with more water than you think you ever will need, then add another bottle. Hiking thirsty is fucking terrible and can be dangerous if you are hiking in a desert or on a mountain. If you are going for a short hike, food is not too important. A bag of assorted nuts will keep you going.

That will about do you for some basic hiking. The biggest thing for beginners is to stay on established trails and don't try to push it too much, if you are not in great shape go on a ~5-6 mile hike and see how you handle it.
>>
>>877399
solid advice

start with some cheap walking/hiking boots
take it easy, enjoy the view
>>
>>877354
First of all - stop eating so much. Maybe get into weight lifting or at least body weight exercises while you lose weight.

After that you can get into running. Run in minimalist footwear like huaraches or you will fuck your shit up. If you start running while being a fat piece of shit you will fuck your shit up anyway.

Running around Nebraska will at least get you a runners high even though you won't see anything even remotely interesting. We evolved to be persistence hunters and it is in our DNA to be lean mean running machines.
