Wasn't sure if I would be able to post this after that cocksucker Matther rolled through, but we got lucky and ol' KVD still has power and cell service so let the dinkposting resume!
Skid might be beating me on the dinkposting lately.
>"""Microfishing"""
Why not just jig for bluegill and crappie instead? At least when the bass aren't biting, I can toss out a 1" Gulp minnow on a 1/32oz jighead with the UL and get a little fight from a Mayan.
You guys ready for /an/ to merge with /out/? I'm sure we will experience lots of cunts within the fishing and hunting threads. It can't be worse than /o/ merge into /n/ though. Things are never pretty when cars meet trains and cyclists.

I never shotpost in your threads.
That said, I'slide in that fat door. Thx.
So pumped for fall migration. Who /bluecatfish/ here?
Just scored a 60" x 70" 700fill power (minimum 80%) down "throw" @ Costco for $20!
At least as nice, maybe lighter, than the Snugpak Jungle Blanket (synthetic). Which I miss...
Did I say $20?
You down or synthetic?

Got a redwing 50L recently. How can I securely... well, secure it to my pack?
Get a bigger pack.

what I do with normal backpacks, is attach a carabiner to each shoulder strap, and then attach the secondary bag to both biners. this works either top or bottom of shoulder strap.
Anyone have experience with military hiking backpacks?
I'm thinking of investing in one because the molle is great for expandable storage.
Any recommendations?
Any advice on running in icy conditions?
Don't fall.
yes, don't
move someplace that doesn't freeze
Evening /out/
Can we get some examples of silly shit you've done when /out/? Anything will be good, but life threatening is ideal.
>be me about 4 years ago
>move back home with parents for a while in new area
>it's out in the UK countryside but not too remote
>check out local map for places to go
>"hmm, lots of mines, guess I better check them out"
>spend next several weeks doing so
>mfw most of them are sealed or the adits are flooded
>fast forward a few months
>parents away for weekend
>visit a secluded.woodland which shows dozen or so shafts on map
>most are only 20-30 feet deep test shafts, the odd one or two being about 30-40 feet with horizontal shafts at the bottom
>come to next shaft further down hill, bowl shaped on top
>lean in for closer look but can't see bottom then slip on my ass towards the hole
>"fuck me that was close"
>decide to call it a day and head home
>fast forward to today
>go to city library to check out old maps and shit for urbex
>get reading old records for mines etc. in the area
>find few pages on shafts I visited years before
>check out included map
>mfw the shaft I nearly fell down is 54 fathoms deep
>that's 324 feet - straight down
>I could have died and nobody knew where I was
>>869949
Is exploring mines dangerous?
>>869997
>here's two times I almost died exploring mines
you serious rn?

I was car camping and saw a bear and her cubs in the woods. I started taking pictures, of course, and then as she approached I got in the car. Silly part is I got out almost as soon as she and her cubs were past the car because pictures through dirty car windows are shitty. They stuck around, cubs kept climbing trees but she was mostly within about fifteen feet of me, the car was backed right up to the picnic table and that's where she was investigating my grill. I just stood with the car door open so I could hop in quick and I guess die in the car if she decided to maul me. I started carrying bear spray after that.
Pic related. My favorite one.
We're gonna be merged with /an/.
How do you guys feel about that?
A lot of fucking annoying babies there

Is this the best option for when hiking solo?
Most practical
>>869559
>best option
There's no such thing; it all boils down to personal preference.
>>869559
It's all relative.
Personally i'd always choose a lightweight 1 or 2 man tent over a bivvy. Yeah its heavier but you get so much more space, comfort and security against the weather and bugs etc with a tent. If you're adding a tarp to your bivvy, you're encroaching on lightweight tent weight anyway. Many hooped/poled bivvys can be a royal pain in the ass to get into if youre getting into it in muddy and/or wet conditions as they only have one opening at the top which you have to shuffle into without getting shit from the ground all over you. Plus you can keep your pack safe and dry in your tent with you while you sleep, no chance in a bivvy.
I mean I like bivvying for shits and giggles and nights under the stars when you know without doubt you will have good weather, but for a dependable, comfy shelter it's a tent all the way for me.
so i just had a shot a fuckhead bear that was tearing up shit around my house despite a thousand dogs barking at it
i've done a few rugs and a winter coat in the past but i figured i'd go full autism mode and do a nice rug, clay up and stitch in the wrinkles, paint up a fake nose, all that fun stuff.
anyone have experience with this stuff? i've noticed most taxidermists cut out the gums and teeth and replace them with painted clay and it tends to just look awful. would pickling be enough to keep the gums from rotting, could i just directly airbrush color back into them once they're preserved?
i notice they also generally cast and mold the skull rather than just giving it an acid bath and stapling the hide directly into the skull, any reason for this?
bumping once before i take it to /k/
should have known this board has way too many /an/ speds

Hey asshole, give the thread at least 24 hours before you abandon it. This is a slow board. Someone will be along to help you eventually. Also, we're not quite full of /an/ just yet.

If /out/ is anything like me, we go /out/ for the pure, simple pleasure of being in the outdoors. Of being part of it; of being one with nature.
And then there's things like what I found in my local paper:
http://archive.is/JoUAj
An article dedicated to shaming those of us who enjoy the outdoors and whatever communities have sprung up around them. All because our /out/door hobbies aren't inclusive enough. I'd thought /pol/ was exaggerating, but these kind of attitudes are insufferable.
Have some snippets:
>...Yokoyama decided to start her own Facebook group, “Hikers of Color,” with the hope someone who could answer her questions would join.
>Almost immediately the posts generated dozens of comments, many supportive but others accused her of everything from promoting separate trails for white people and non-white people, seeking to form exclusive cliques and even warning her to stay off the trail because she wasn’t worthy of search and rescue help should she get in trouble.
>And while it’s easy to find friendly people of all races on the trail, the hiking and outdoors community as a whole still struggles to integrate non-white people into the lifestyle and culture.
>“The hiking community is not just about the idealized Thoreau idea of what it is to be in the wilderness,” Yokoyama said. “The negative things of real life still happen and I think we need to acknowledge that. And the negative thing for people of color is that racism still follows them.”
For God's sake, if you enjoy the outdoors go enjoy them! Don't politicize every tiny thing because you're so feeble-minded you think you need a safe space on the trail! For every asshole you meet on the trail you'll meet ten good people.
So what do you think, /out/?
No identify politics on either sort here on out. It's toxic and unessary. There's other places in which to talk about this.
>>866532
This. Try Facebook or Reddit. They like to make up -ism and -ist words for every possible action a human being can do or think.
>>866532
Ignoring identity politics never makes it go away. Just look at what happened to video games, comics and media in general. These fuckers will keep pushing you until you finally push back, and then they'll say "AHA, I knew were a racist bigoted shitlord!".
How do you go about collecting firewood? Can I just go in the woods and cut some trees down?
>>866410
Try picking up deadfall first. Once you run out of that then start looking for dead trees that are not yet fallen. If you still can't get what you need, chop off limbs only from living trees. After that, if you still need more, chop the tree down about 5 feet about the ground so it may re-sprout and become a pollard where you can source wood from it years later.
Basically, there's no real reason to completely remove trees.
>>866410
Cutting trees down is both needlessly destructive, and also yields bad fire wood. The reason for the bad wood, is because live trees are very wet on the inside, as they feed water through all the wood to the leaves or branches.
What you want to use for firewood is "dead standing wood" trees that have fallen over, or even old logs that are elevated off the ground will give you the best fire wood, and will often times be dry on the inside, even under rainy/wet conditions. Try to avoid saturated branches and logs laying directly on the ground, as these will be wet, and burn cold and smokey, if at all.
It is better practice to burn wood found in the area you are camping, as bringing wood in from an outside location can introduce new bacteria and insects to an environment that wouldn't other wise have it. Also, medium to large size branches do just fine. You don't need big logs split up like your pic related.
Tl;Dr, find a fallen over tree, and cut that up for your fire wood
In nine months I will be leaving the Marine Corps. In that time I was thinking about getting a good civilian GPS since I will no longer be working with MGRS. Right now I am extremely familiar with the Garmin Foretrex and was wondering what other options are out there.
Use a cellphone you stupid fuckin' jarhead
>>866238
Yup.
I jsut got one because raisins. Can you just talk about how to use it properly please?
What's your contingency plan if shit hit the fan? We're talking straight up WWIII scenario.
Could you sufficiently survive away from a deploding society?
>>864372
Everyone always thinks they'll make it. I'll probably die in the initial attack or get murdered for my car 1/4 mile from my house.
>>864375
/k/ can go astoundingly fuck themselves. This is a hypothetical scenario where /out/ skills are needed, not a shitton of nuggets.
Anyone on /out/ having experience with running barefoot? Which advantages can i expect?
Should i start?
Any Tips, suggestions?

I suggest you use the catalog and stop being a self-absorbed, atterntion whore, faggot!
