What are my chances of finding him?
you have my blessing
About the same as losing your virginity at a comic convention
Bring a book OP. Actually bring a couple books.
>haven't been /out/ in a while
>live in tiny apartment in shitty neighborhood so can't set up tent right outside
>sleep in my sleeping bag on the floor next to an open window
Please tell me I'm not the only one who does this.
>>872727
guilty
>>872727
Sometimes I sleep on the floor because I miss the dirt
>>872727
I went fishing in the puddle at the end of my driveway because of the hurricane.
Looking to make a semi permanent hide/out/ in the swampy woods near my house.
The woods are pretty thick, and the ground is mostly mud or foot deep water as it rains very often.
Can an innawoods shelter be sustained in these conditions with hammocks, tarps, and by suspending everything?
>out
>skyscrapers in background
You'd have to build a foundation for your camp in these conditions being honest your better off just going else where.
>>872423
Some people dont have access to deepwoods, luckily I do but not everyone does... At least he/she is trying to enjoy the outdoors with what he/she has.
>>872446
Sorry, I didn't realize that destroying fragile wetlands was /out/ approved
What's a good relative weight for a backpacking tent? Years ago, pack standard weight used to be higher than it currently is. With new technologies, things are getting lighter and lighter and the standards have changed. This has the unfortunate consequence of setting the bar higher and narrowing the range in what one considered a practical weight for certain pieces of gear, with tents being one of them.
Let's narrow the scenario and just ask what a good tent weight for a 3 night hike might be? Traversed distance likely within the 10-20 mile range.
On the topic of tents... I live in Socal and my friend wants to go camping I have a drop cloth that's like super big. Would that work for a tarp tent? I
>>872607
I don't see why not
>>872346
IMO upper ideal weight
3 season 1 person: 3lb
3 season 2 person: 4lb
3 season 3 person: 6lb
Double the weight for a 4 season.
How feasible is it to climb everest with one of those expedition teams that you buy?
I saw a few sites on Google.
Would like to propose to my potential wife at the top.
>>872327
They pretty much do EVERYTHING for you, except carry you up the mountain. Pretty much all you need is to be fit, have common sense and have money.
>>872337
Also, you'll get sweet lines like this, cause every one does it now.
Also you better hurry up. Read that they're gonna be banning inexperienced climbers soon.

Carry a Zorb ball with you so that they can send your body back down.
Whats the deal with tri-zip backpacks?
>>872260
those montanna backpack guys made one for the army. spec ops liked it and handed them out to every ranger, sapper and eod. the tryhards saw that the highspeeds used them and started to buy them. at that point camelback licenced the design and made a cheaper version.
once that happened all the civies and nasty girls decided they wanted one too. now there are cheap chinese knock offs.
>>872839
this except rangers are not highspeed
Let's talk about kayaking. I would like to buy a one person kayak, I don't need anything too high end but I also don't want a cheap piece of crap. Any suggestions? My range is around 250$ through 350$. Is this too low?
Also Kayaking general.
>>872140
The 'yak in your pic is the best you're going to get in your price range. Which is not to say it's a bad kayak. I was actually going to suggest that very one before even seeing your image. I work at a field and stream and I always recommend the Trophy 126 to first time 'yak buyers on a budget. It's a great value for a decent little fishing kayak.
>>872140
What will you be using it for, and where?
That's pretty much bottom end for kayaks, but even a shitty boat is better than no boat. You could also look at craigslist, or see if any local marine shops are selling off their demo or rental models.
>>872170
What is the name of the Kajak then?
Looks terribly short to me. Possibly less then 3m.
Suggest me one or more outdoor-must-haves for less than 60$

Magnesium firestarter is very good in case it unexpectedly rains. Also if everything is wet pine still burns pretty nicely.
MRE's from the army surplus store. Having a hot meal while out is terrific.
I want to live in a boat house.
What do I need to know? Is it expensive? Anyone here know how to live in a boat house?
I highly doubt you could afford one, but I could be wrong.
Have you ever lived on the sea before?
Do you easily get sea sickness?
You will be lonely while on the boat...
>>871834
Let's assume I already own the boat itself
what costs will I incur from docking and shit to go into town for food and shit? what are the real life costs of living like this?
Human contact is not a concern.
>>871836
Depending on the area, some places will charge you to dock or go into private property. You will have to maintain the boat and if any major leaks or engine failures happen, you will lose the boat. Other than that, everything should be the same and you could live this way indefinitely.
Sup /out/. Going on my first day hike this week and I don't really know what food to bring. Looking for some suggestions.
>>871722
>day hike
just bring a cliff bar or a sandwich
>>871722
I like fried chicken, just make sure to wrap it well so the grease doesn't get on the rest of your shit.
Bring napkins.
Some trailmix, oatmeal, Harvest Crunch shits amazing, really whatever you want.
Is this good quality backpack for going /out/ or hunting?
>>871702
why
>>871698
It would be a great bag. Just be sure to strap your trendy mug and expensive swedish axe to the outside and call it a day.
>>871730
Alright I will do that
Hey everyone what portable console do you take while /out/? I ever take my PSP-2000
that's for kiddos
>>871683
This. Real men pack a 3DS.
>building a camping themed animal crossing room while camping
No greater joy.
A Sega Game Gear
Trangia or cast iron skillet for prolonged /out/ings?
>>871596
if you're hiking your gear around not cast iron. if you're more-of-less staying in one place (cabin, shelter, tent, etc) go for the cast iron. especially if you want to cook real meals of things like meat, egg, and vedgies
>>871596
Cast iron all the way. None of this pansy ass millennial titanium shit. If you want great food while camping, bring the iron. It is only heavy when your pussy is bleeding.
>>871607
t. never been backpacking
I have pic related and it's so comfy and warm for someone who hates bulky jackets.
Is it a waste/frowned upon to use /out/ gear casually?
Sometimes it can make you look like an affected douche but generally in extreme cases. It's fine. I use my Stanley pot and stove to heat up soups in my room late at night
Stop caring so much about what other people think about you and just do things that makes you happy.
>>871593
I never knew this was a thing.
I mean I guess if you're stomping around in mountaineering boots or being some sort of tryhard who never actually goes out? That has more to do with lying/being disingenuous than using outdoor shit in town.
Maybe if you're annoying about it? If you won't shut up about how you're always out and you're so cool because you go out and blah blah, but that's true of anything. The same could be said of a programmer who wears programming t-shrits or a black guy who always wears BLM shit.
Honestly, plenty of fashions come from outdoor gear. People love rain shells, Northface fleeces were super popular for a while. People use daypacks for going around town who have no idea that that was what they were made for.
Not a big deal if you ask me.
Good /out/ TV and films?
Star Trek.
All of them.
>>871451
I don't get it, the majority of them take place in comfy seating indoors
>>871454
