Question for you /k/
How much did the crazy training the spartans went through really matter in the end? Obviously being raised since birth for war they would be stronger, more resilient to pain, more willing to fight or die that sort of thing. But in their time battles were basically just huge numbers of men slugging it out or using different formations. I can see them being more effective in a one on one fight but feel like alot of that would be null when you've got two walls of sheilds just crashing into each other. So was it worth it/effective to train soldiers in this way or better to just raise a giant army of whoever you can?

You are ignorant of field battle. It takes a lot of discipline to maintain your composure when flesh is being carved away from bones.
A Spartan can get speared then fight on with ferocity. A Persian of anyone else would get wounded and flee.

I finally got around to watching it and oh my fucking God was it good.

Ok /k/, let's play a game.
2017, France.
Extreme right wing wins the election. Sandniggers in the suburbs go insane because they realize whities don't want to recogize the cultural enrichment they represent for all of them.

You have a watersource, a generator, a big garden providing you fruit and vegetables. You have cattle thanks to one of your neighbor.
Only one of your neighbor have a gun, a 12g hunting shotgun with 2 shots.
What gun do you need (being illegal or not in France) to protect the small community composed of your family and your neighbors?

You must procure an enemy weapon eventually. The problem is if you get one will you know how to use it properly? Figure out the AK. Get a crossbow and learn anatomy because you are going to need a well placed shot from concealment or cover would be even better. Have multiple escape routes, be physically fit. Learn about poison if possible, rubbing shit or a tobacco paste on the bolt. Leave the enemy poisoned food. Ambush with a knife in the toilet if you think you can do it like that. Make a homemade weapon with a pipe and gunpowder. Good luck cousin.

Assault rifles are much more complex than shotguns, as long as you're turning a rifle into a shotgun that's relatively easy.
Turning a shotgun into an automatic rifle is less easy, although that depends largely on what kind of shotgun it is. It's easy to downgrade something, upgrading is the hard part.
