What does /k/ think of stainless damascus?
I plan on having a custom sword made as a family heirloom, but fear that normal steel/damascus wont be that well maintained when i pass it on, so i want to have the stain/rust resistant aspect while still having a pleasing asthetic. I dont need the thing to be functional battle sword, just something to be passed on to future generations
>>31115824
Dumb faggot, real Damascus steel doesn't exist any more.
>>31115824
>stainless
>sword
you seem to not have any idea of metallurgy, stainless steel is a horrible choice for a sword because of its brittle nature, moreover damascus steel is only for looks, modern monosteel is much stronger and far less susceptible to rust
>>31115936
It does require more maintainance than stainless right? Again im using it as a heirloom not a functional sword. Its not like me (or my descendants) will wield an actual blade
Post the last gun related thing you bought
Pic related, delicious Underwood arrived today

Had fun with a little flashbang.
>>31115508
Are flashbangs legal to purchase by civilians, or did you make it?
Finally got a glock 17 slide to complete my build

>Ruger 14 never leaves a case when he drives around on the 4-wheeler
>Had the ability to buy galils in the 80's for a few hundred bucks never did
>.223 is the largest caliber you need kid in these woods with Black Bears and methheads
>>31115429
>.223
>Bear
My brother brought back a Mule Deer from an Eastern CO corn field that had two .223s under its skin. This is even worse given that .243 is the minimum legal big game caliber in this state. If a Mule Deer wasn't taken down by .223, Black Bears are just gonna bend you over and rape you, DiCaprio style.
This Fudd probably thinks .357 Magnum is a good Grizzly gun.

So I decided to refinish a stock I have. I stripped and sanded it down to bare bleached wood and I plan to linseed oil it but I want it dark. So I want to know if mixing fine powdered dry dirt in with the oil and rubbing it into the wood a viable option? Or is Staining better? Wanna make it look kinda old
> pic unrelated

Way to defeat the whole purpose of refinishing idiot.
Should have just left it the way it was aka old.

???
Do not finish your rifle stock with dirt.
>“The nonpartisan GAO has concluded what we’ve been arguing for years: there is no justification for the Air Force to prematurely retire the A-10 fleet, and doing so could leave the military with a serious capability gap our military needs to confront complex security challenges around the world.”

The A-10's ability to provide unparalleled close air support for ground troops is unmatched by any other aircraft. The USAF's feverish insistence on retiring the A-10 before any adequate replacement is procured is negligent at best, criminal at worst.

Except every other platform does more CAS, at the same or higher quality.
>For anybody with the audacity to claim that the A-10 was ineffective during the Gulf War:
Sure, it was effective, to the tune of 5400+ Mavericks fired from medium altitude and almost no gun runs. But you ignore that the one time it was sent against a force with a half-assed air defense system they lost two in one day and had 14 grounded for damage. So objectively it was worse than the F-16, F/A-18, and F-15E in that conflict.
>>31115587
>Tank kills don't count if they're done with missiles
>The A-10 had one unsuccessful sortie and that totally cancels out over 8000 successful sorties
>The aircraft that did the most front-line work also got scratched a few times in the process so its useless
I've never posted here before, so forgive me if this seems kind of stupid.
I live in Washington. As some of you may know, gun laws are pretty lax here. I've bought a couple of guns in the past, but I'm rather afraid of buying another now as I've screwed up on something on all my gun purchases: my place of birth. I was always under the assumption that I was born in Tampa, Florida. My parents would eventually inform me that I was born in Panama City. This was also incorrect, as I would find out after finding my birth certificate, that I was actually born in Panama City BEACH (which is counted as a different place altogether).
In short, I've ended up putting a different place of birth on my gun purchase form every time I've bought a gun. This misinformation hasn't stopped me from getting a gun before, but does this made me look suspicious to dealers now? It was an honest mistake.
Pic unrelated.

If it ever becomes a problem the FFL will decline the transfer. You're probably fine.
This page http://www.imfdb.org/wiki/AK-74
why is the ak74? that is supposed to be called the ak74u and it is a carbine, don't they mean the ak47? that is the main weapon of the Russian army
http://callofduty.wikia.com/wiki/AK-47
I keep trying to change the imfdb but they keep changing it back! these guys are dumbasses, even my 12 year old brother knows it!
Its funny that a young kid knows more than these dumb gun experts
Also, even the russian army got it wrong!
Why do they have suppressors? https://rusmilitary.files.wordpress.com/2014/04/33.jpg and it looks nothing like the actual gun like

Why don't we just put cheap phone electronics into an AA missile and run an app differentiating planes from flares and other countermeasures(just like you have apps that can recognize where faces are on pictures) and BAM, you have an AA missile that can't be fooled?
I'm sure that if that worked somebody would have already done it by now. What am I missing?
>>31114417
it definitely works but military tech has been behind modern computers for a long time now. I mean, the F22 is running like what, 200Mhz?
>>31114417
Image processing algorithms are expensive to write. And then you need to design the missile itself, which requires a fair amount of knowledge in aerospace engineering.
You'd be better off using FPV hardware, and guiding the missile yourself.
>>31114417
a shitton bureaucracy/government contract shenanigans and the technology has only been viable for about ~5 years
it's why everything electronic in the military is 20 years behind where it should be
/k/ can I get some help identifying this revolver, I'm leaning towards colt.

Yep it is a Famas Model 1884
Wow, thanks for the info. Any idea on the value and rarity?

What's k's opinion on the Zastava m48? Looking to get into more centerfire rifles but in college so I'm 80% broke. Short of paying thousands for a good k98 the m48 seems like a good starting point and the action is so much better than a nugget
>>31114101
You can probably get a nice used 22 for that much. Or save a bit more and get an SKS
Why the hell would I get a .22? If I wanted to pop squirrels in the woods I'll use a pellet gun.
I've never liked the semiauto feel compared to a bolt's solid lockup. I've always wanted a good, older bolt gun with wood furniture but the Mosins never did it for me. I was lucky enough to fondle a genuine k98 of my friend's grandfather's but there's no way I can afford a good one. The Yugo Mausers seem like solid facsimiles to the original and 8mm is big enough for game hunting
>>31114101
While I love my Yugo Mauser, I would say you are better off saving up and building/buying a cheap AR. The days of cheap to buy and shoot milsurps is gone.
Hi /k/

Welp I picked out a PTR-91. I made several posts over the last coupla weeks asking about the finer points of the PTR91 family and you kommandos helped me a lot.
I got a new FR (#102), new style, with the 5/8x24 thread, paddle release and improved fluting. $1100 shipped with hard case.
Thanks all for the help with my purchase. I will be suppressing this and just need to figure out a port buffer that works with the welded rail.
Good for you.
