Okay /k/, say a bunch of armed gunmen are dug in a house. They've boarded up the windows and if the police were to breach in, have no clue what they're walking into but they do have a secure perimeter around the house.
I'm genuinely curious how the police would gather information in regards to location of the gunmen, hostage, booby traps etc. It's not like in movies or games where small drones are sent in is it?

Could you, in theory, design a cartige with the primer somewhere other than the back of the bullet?
Like, its pretty obvious why the primer is in the back, but I was thinking maybe with something like caseless amunition like the on the Kraut Space Magic gun uses you could put it somewhere else and have it work flwlesly. Could it happen? What sort of engineering problems would it face?

So i have the full sized 9mm version of this handgun down on layaway right now used for 700. (480 dollars to go)
Anything i should know about these guns in particular? I know the USP is a great pistol in general and mags are expensive as fuck but that's to be expected with H&K. This handgun i have on layaway was made sometime between 2003-2004 i think, everything looks good inside, a bit dusty and needs some TLC but nothing a good cleaning can't do.
When i get this gun i can at least say

Lots of stuff from a 40/45 USP owner here.
The plastic HK mags are actually pretty cheap compared to the steel ones in the .45s and compacts. They are about 40 bucks.That Muslim guy is going to tell you to get steel ones for it, but they don't exist for the USP9/40, at least not in HK inventory.
You can get a TLR-3 that is already adapted to the gun like pic related. Its a decent light for not too much, and if you use it properly you can reach the switch.
The triggers are plenty shootable, but if you do anything too them I would recommend just getting a some flitz polish and taking a rag to the contact surfaces, or just shoot it a lot.
I have Trijicon HDs on mine, and I wish I got standard mepro sights. I will pretty much always have a light when I shoot these guns, and I am not a fan of the more open sights.
Lastly the USP 45 is only just a little longer in length, 1mm taller in slide height, and the same width as the 9/40. This means it will fit in the same holsters if its a light bearing holster, and even some leather holsters in the non-light bearing holsters. I have a KT Mech that fits bothe my USP .40 and .45.

So guys, I've volunteered for a college student exchange programme to rwanda for about half a year and from what I've seen, they're totally devastated from the genocide and civil war.
What's the situation nowadays? Every now and then I could see news about piracy, schoolgirl kidnapping, boko haram, ethnic/religious/political clashes and stuff, so should I back out? I really want to bring a handgun from the states but all these bullshit foreign laws regarding firearms and CC-ing one isn't really worth my time.

This is the third edition of the arbitrarily recurring Boo/k/lub Thread. You are encouraged to recommend books for us to read. You are obliged to leave a brief and informative synopsis. You are invited to leave a personal review and a DEFKON rating (5: i hated this piece of shit - 1: buy this book immediately or i will murder your family).
All recommendations are accepted, but the topics should relate to weapons, warfare, the theories behind weapons and tactics and warfare, the technical understanding of weapons and logistics and warfare, and of course instruction manuals. As such, Fiction, Non-Fiction, White Papers, Gray Papers, and homebrew thesis papers are all acceptable. Please leave a link to the source material, or an explanation for the lack of one (out of print, paywall blocked, verboten, etc.)

Few replies and recommendations in another book thread a few days ago.
Definitely recommend pic related to anyone and everyone.
Follows a young German sniper on the Eastern Front in the dying days of the war. Based on the memoirs and interviews with the real sniper who experienced it first hand.
I knew hardly anything about the eastern front and it still gripped me and sparked an interest in learning more. Some pretty brutal stuff in it which probably entices a few of you.

A fiction story about the Marine Raiders of WWII. Written by a vet and using many different first hand accounts, this story goes from Guadalcanal to Okinawa, taking real life events and historical happenings and folding them into the story of the 4th Raider Battalion.
This is a book that my father got for me whan i was a young man fascinated with the grit and glory of war. I was not disappointed. The characters are vibrant, the battles are harrowing, and the skulduggery and jackassery of life as a Leatherneck was everything an adolescent boy could want to read. But the book takes a turn, and as the Marines land on Iwo Jima, the full cost of War comes into sharp and painful focus. So many chill motherfuckers, doe eyed farmboys, guido ass city kids, and brilliant and enterprising young officers slaughtered, maimed, and broken by a herculean war machine hell bent on dominating an implacable enemy. This story, along with All Quiet on the Western Front, woke me up to the fact that war is not a game. There is no reset button or save points. The enemy is not some faceless, pixelated gook. Our granddads fought because they had to; they wanted to stay home, bang ladies, and get fat and old with good jobs and healthy kids. We will soon be called to fight again, and i hope we can have the clarity of purpose to do what must be done.
