How many majore artists are known to have posted on IC?
>>3037634
me definitely
>>3037658
this guy and the one below me
None. You are all talentless hacks and waste supplies
IF YOU ARE A /BEG/INNER IN ART, please use this thread to post pieces for critique or ask for advice. We should not have to make new threads or post in the Drawthread with our fundamental exercises.
Feel free to post even the smallest exercise you have done to show you are still trying, do not give up, make someone proud.
RESIZE YOUR IMAGES TO ~1000 PIXELS:
#1)
>screenshot the image and post that instead
#2)
>change camera capture settings to something smaller
#3)
>send to computer and resize in MSPaint

There's a new (and cleaner) sticky in town! You can see it at:

TRY TO BE MORE ACTIVE AND GIVE PEOPLE SOME FEEDBACK - many studies are left unreplied, which is a bit sad and can be quite demotivating for the people that try their best to improve, but are left directionless.
OLD THREAD: >>3032574
Does 2chan have an /ic/ equivalent? How do we stack up to the competition?
>>3035087
>drawing european classical
stop being edgy and just draw anime
probably like that
https://zip.2chan.net/11/futaba.htm
this should be its equivalent
>>3035769
yeah there's that and this: http://zip.2chan.net/14/futaba.htm
which is the porn art board
Okay /ic/ it finally came to this. I always avoided this place, since I considered my art to just not be good enough.
I recently started working on my stuff again, trying kinda to do the same thing Geersart from Twitch does, blending stuff in PS with Smudge in greyscale, and then adding colors and doing this stuff all over again.
It's just that for the last 2 years I feel my art is bad all the time and I can never finish anything that I wouldn't hate a day later.
I did this pack of random stuff, and I'm kinda stuck as to where should I go now - should I try doing what Geers does and just punch myself long enough until I start doing stuff I like or maybe I'm looking at all of this from the wrong way and there's some other way out?
>>3033989
Keep going, you're better than me by 80%.
NO ONE CARES
YOU SHOULD HAVE POSTED IN ANOTHER THREAD LIKE, PERHAPS, THE QUESTION THREAD, MADE FOR QUESTIONS
>>3034013
Sorry anon :C
>Started drawing 2 months ago for fun
>They sucked at first, but then became decent-ish
>Used to shit them out naturally on a regular basis
>Break because personal stuff
>Coming back feeling lost
>Started to study recently to stop being a shitter
>Feeling uncomfortable and stressed
>Working at a slower and more unproductive rate
Is this real, why this happens and how to get rid of it?
Just keep drawing, fellow aquafag.
law of diminishing returns
the further along the expertise curve you go, the same amount of effort begins to yield less and less.
for example, say you believe in the 10,000 hours make you an expert meme:
the first 10k puts you at an arbitrary "level 10 artist" with level 100 being the max. (level 100 is whoever you idolize, consider great, better than you and is generally accepted by most to be a great artist)
the second 10k hours puts you at lvl.15
the third 10k hours puts you at lvl.17
the fourth 10k at lvl.18
and the solution isn't to work harder or longer, we have physical limits. You have to strategize.
Work smarter: (which basically means question your own methods and seek alternatives and then afterwards question the alternate methods)
Set aside time for hobbies ( or other avenues of creativity, sculpt, paint, play animal crossing or some shit)
SOCIALIZE for fucks sake ( but never say you are "depressed" to normalfags or they'll put you on antidepressants faster than you can say prozac)
be insane and crazy, but in healthy relaxing, stress reducing ways (google primal screaming, punch a pillow, take a bath with candles, SHAVE = hygiene in general)
go on an artist date yourself where you buy shiny new materials
>>3033882
fucking read the sticky in beg thread its fucking explained.
>The tired I am, the better I can feel form in my mind
>The better I can see space in my mind
>Literally get sudden hyper realistic images of places I've been with a 3D grid overlaid in it in my mind
>Lots of visual ideas, spontaneously jumping one from another, highly affected by the mood of the music I am listening to
>tfw too tired to draw
>Go to sleep
>Incredible lucid dreams with stories that go on and on
>Wake up
>Forget dreams
>Mind is back to being hyperfocused and blank...
Fuck me

oops wrong board, srry guys
>>3037250
it's ok have a nice day
>>3037250
haha don't sweat it OP
how do you deal with the constant depression
i've tried to learn drawing for most of my life and now that ive gone balls deep into figure drawing and anatomy i get moments where i don't know if i'll ever make it
is this prevalent here? i've met a good chunk of artists (young and older, all very talented and hardworking) and i've noticed older people tend to be at peace but i guess it's too personal to ask if they ever struggled emotionally to get there
i hope thread is not too meta, i just want to hear your story
Believe in the you who believes in you. That's all there is to it.
>>3036778
i know where you're coming from and yeah I try to feel good with what i do
but it's pretty hard, it's like being a lawyer and losing every case you ever had for years
i feel like it's masoquism at this point
Stop worrying about "making it". What does that even mean?
If you're not creating for the sake of creating you're a sellout.
What does /ic/ think about our comic (http://boysland.thewebcomic.com/archive/#ch_99904)? It has above average art for a webcomic, good humor? (I mean we like it, so whatever haha)
and monsters yo! Monsters are always cool
plus our characters are original and don't feel like fan characters that belong to other works and have an underlining sense of mystery through.
Is it above most webcomic art? Probably, but that's not really an achievement, considering the sheer amount of amateur comic creators on the net.
The art is bad and it's clear that your artist is lacking even the most basic of fundamentals, such as proportions and perspective. On the bright side it matches the writing which is just as bad. Immature jokes, weak punchlines and really unnatural, stilted dialogue. Your 'original story' doesn't make up for it; the promised 'sense of mystery' fell completely flat for me, just as the characters did. Your pacing is garbage. If your story doesn't follow a traditional structure, you better make sure the characters are interesting enough to keep me reading.
The design elements of the comic are also rather bland. You do have some visually interesting pages, but it seems like those where more of a happy accident than thought out compositions.
That said, I'm clearly not the audience you guys want for this comic. I assume you were aiming at a young boy demographic (shonen)?
It's good to hear you have fun with your comic though. Wether you decide to step up your game or not: Keep going, proud of you. It's an achievement to finish 200+ pages; not a lot of folks can say that for them. Let haters be haters.
anyone have anything positive to say?
That was positive lol, he isnt lying to you anon you really do need more practice........scrub

Homage to this?
Most of his stuff looks like paintovers/photobashed game screenshots. They might do more interesting stuff in a few years.

I FUCKING WASTED MY CHILDHOOD
So is this book for complete morons who have never picked up a pencil in their life?
A lot of what Bert says seems to be common sense. Most of the projects supposed time is laughable (it doesn't take 45 minutes to draw cast shadows) and if anything some of the pictures he uses as example are just plain ugly, such as the bottle for project 1-E.
Another thing is that it seems like Bert jumps around too much. Why have people draw 9 projects only to then tell people how they should hold their pencils.
I'm just wondering what you guys think.
>>3037142
>So is this book for complete morons who have never picked up a pencil in their life?
Yes. Many people can outright skip this book.
>>3037142
Coincidentally, I picked up this book again after having it on my bookshelf for years, It just irked me that I never really got to the later chapters, I suppose.
Keys is probably a book that is best suited for people who are just starting drawing as a hobby. It might not be very helpful for drawing anatomy / construction / lots of the things that /ic/ likes
BUT
I think it might be a very good read if you plan on doing lots of studies. The majority is about copying and emulating, after all. And for beginners, it might do away with chickenscratch pretty quickly desu.
Also, the way Dodson writes is hella comfy imho
Any glitch artist here?
I need some inspiration.
How do I do this
>>3035000
Fountain was brush/clone with jitter or other method. Rectangle with red frame filled blue, lower opacity.
Add noise layer, add some pretentious katakana.
Done.
Should I buy Frenden Brushes?
>>3037156
Start with som free ones first, there are some good alternatives.
http://magdaproski.deviantart.com/art/Clip-Studio-Paint-Brush-pack-607231553
>>3037156
Those look absolutely shit.
>>3037156
It's pretty affordable and there is a lot of nice brushes in there so you will probably find at least a few favorites. Get the super pack so you can get free updates for life.
Daub Brushes are also really nice. Once again, buy the super bundle for free updates for life. Since i've bought them he's added tons of shit. Those two are pretty much all you need in my opinion. Don't bother fucking around with free stuff.
Trying out some Marko Djurdjevic/Matt Rhodes style stuff.
>>3036699
WE WUZ ROMANZ N' SHIT
>>3036699
Lines are scratchy and don't help show form all that well.
The metal doesn't provide enough context of the environment (even though he's in white space) and is rendered way more than anything else, giving an "off" feel.
I like the powerful pose, but i think having the sword angled downwards slightly would help create a sense of a "imposing triangle" composition.
If it's a study/artist copy then whatever.
No it's just a daily sketch I'm gonna try to post one on here every day. I agree with everything you said. Corrected the stuff a bit.
