Is it fine to listen to music while drawing, or are the experts against it?
So I know according to Richard Williams's Animation Survival guide it is a sin against nature to listen to music while drawing. But I was wondering if anyone with talent ever had anything to say on the subject.
And when I say music I'm talking about this kind of stuff:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eeHuXbd9Gvk
I listen to looped music from games if it has a specific feeling I want to draw. The music helps me picture an animation playing out in my head. However, it IS pretty hard for me to cut off visualization in my head and start drawing again.
To put it simply, you just have to know yourself enough to know if it'll work for you. If you're unsure, experiment more.
I play anything and everything while drawing, from podcasts, livestreams, single track on loop and super long playlists, I can't work in silence.
It's probably not a great idea to listen to music when you're planning out an animation sequence, since the music will affect the rhythm of whatever you draw, but once you've got that figured out, and if you're just doing refining work, then I don't see the problem with music.
Now if you're drawing or painting, not animating, then I think it matters even less, but if you're struggling with something, mute the music and focus for a bit.
This attitude of "Work in dead silence or you're doing it wrong" is counterproductive. Music can be quite useful in helping you focus, especially in an office environment, because it blots out the outside world.
I always take Richard Williams advice with a bit of salt, since he makes plenty of decisions as an animator I don't particularly agree with.
Is jealousy a good way to motivate yourself into becoming better?

no, all my fans are still shit.
>>3036076
if it makes you happy
>>3036076
Just draw you stupid cunt
Please critique my painting. Be harsh
Non digital thread?
Where is the light source in this? Your shadows are off
I have two cats, and their stomach and mouth do not look like that
Also the bowl is incredibly flat. Check this shadow too
Overall, it comes off as incomplete. I feel like you've used two separate photos as references that have different lighting
Can't wait to finish my painting and get shat on
Adding to >>3035908
Just realized why the bowl was off putting
I'm looking at the cat side on but the bowl is at an angle enough to see its contents
study some cat anatomy, muscles, bones etc. you may be surprised.
Why are there so many artists who, even when apparently very skilled, can only draw one kind of face or body-type? Wouldn't that get boring? And in the case of artists with genuine skill who do draw varied characters, there's still a few faces or bodytypes they seem to prefer.
This seems more common in 'realistic' animation too. What's up?
>>3035805
It's called a comfort zone.
You get comfortable with and design one kind of body or face that you like to draw, and don't bother experiementing and using ref I think.
I try to avoid it.
So their art is recognisable
This book is too fucking long, 600 pages, jesus
what can i skip? i've read 20 pages and they said nothing

>being this lazy
Ngmi
>>3034457
i can't waste hours reading something that is not even my main language and that doesn't explain me how to draw
>>3034458
this book have a lot of translations, I remembered reading this book in my native language many years ago.
I'm a pretty amateur furry artist just trying to get better. Can you guys give a review on my stuff?
Fuck my ass, I forget the photo was sideways.
beginner thread

Please post on the beginner thread in the future.
First learn how to draw basic forms, like spheres and boxes. Your work is very flat.
After that, study actual animals and human anatomy.
anyone draw on an ipad pro? I'm a bit confused about the way you transfer files between the ipad and your pc, and i've heard there is no wired connection transfer, which sounds ridiculous. what's the fastest way to transfer large art files, or is the transfer so cumbersome that it's not worth getting one?
>>3036743
You can backup your photos on icloud. The ipad can do it automatically, so you don't have to transfer a lot of things at once.
You can also directly plug in the ipad using the usb cable, and use itunes (I think) to transfer your files.
>>3036753
so ipad pro 2 will transfer files made from procreate to the pc with
(a) wireless Ethernet connection on an included cloud service or
(b) the included charging cable via the itunes app
That's better than I was expecting at least, would be nice if there was a way to grab the files directly through a wired connection.
>>3036758
ios 11 is coming out in fall and will finally add native file management, system-wide drag&drop, etc. so I figure file transfer will also get normalized
Lamp golfing, I made this for my Instagram.
This is my only art piece I've been proud of for the last few years.
I think you should crop it so it's just the lamp and the sun. Otherwise it is pretty fine OP
Like dis
you forgot the bag buddy
I have a Wacom tablet and I've had a lot of problems with it, but they seem to be really popular. The reason I got one in the first place was because I had heard so many people say they were the best.
It's the only tablet I've ever owned, so I don't have anything to compare it with.
what problems are you having?
>>3035273
I've had a shit ton of problems ever since I got it.
Currently the pressure sensitivity doesn't work and it lags. I've had times where it won't register the pen. Sometimes it does register the pen, but whenever I bring the pen close to the tablet, my cruiser goes crazy. And sometimes it just won't turn on.
>>3035292
Do you have the latest version of the driver?? I had sensitivity and lag issues too but it turned out my driver for the tablet was out of date
i stayed up till 730 am and decided to try my hand at a vaporwave inspired look, how did i do?
>>3035860
no greek statues?
>>3035861
yeah, no. Fuck memewave. i just wanted to make something trippy yet "hip?" and subtle.
not terrible. decent, if somewhat forgettable album artwork, for what it's worth.

That fake Kyle got me good with the rendering tutorial
>>3025451
Kyle already has a rendering tutorial.

I remember that picture from a year ago or more and how its creator asked their art teacher to critique it (and now it's even better). Noice.

Don't beat yourself up if you don't reach your exact goals, anons.
That was honestly pretty stupid. It had little to do with future self, but more to do with hypnosis and bad parenting. They didn't even explain how hypnosis works, nor support it with any evidence aside from people just suddenly doing better which is easy, they just have to try. They don't even get an after story, so they must have failed afterwards. But I have to admit, there needs to be some suicide warning, not exactly the kind of thing you expect to go walking into when you talk about goals. Overall, just keep working on what you do, you're not some stupid kids like the podcast anyways.
