Must be an American thing. Here in Australia I barely noticed any change last year. If anything it gets busier in November and early December and then tapers off.

Anyone here plays rugby?
I'm 23 yo, is it too late to train for rugby in a team?

trained with the ABs once and joked about joining up, Dan Carter said there are plenty of late bloomers
>>
a professional team, yes probably.

Plenty of competitive amateur teams out there though, but will depend on how big rugby is in your location. (From the UK but toured around Europe and always found decent oppo)

I've been playing since I was 11, currently play for a social club as I like the balance between a decent standard of rugby and a having a good bunch of lads to go out with. We tend to pick up a few players each season who have never played before or who are returning after not playing since school or whatever. It doesn't take much to catch and throw a ball while running and the rest we can help coach and guide with.

Get in touch with a club, find out when they train and pop along. If your potential team mates aren't encouraging and helpful then its a poor reflection on the club and not you.
>>
It's not rugby but I've just recently taken up football, the American kind, at 25. It's obviously too late to make a professional career out of it but majority of the guys in the team seem to have started quite late.

Since there is no conatinment thread for this, let's make a thread.

My question:
Just started SS, I should be progressing by 2.5kg every session on some of my lifts, however my gym only has 5kg plates and up in barbell section of the gym. This makes the smallest increase of 10kg.

It prevents me from following the program as intended. Should I increase by 10kg every 4 sessions and do 1 and 2 reps more on 2nd and 3rd session respectively?

e.g.
Session 1 - 50kg 3x5
Session 2 - 50kg 3x6
Session 3 - 50kg 3x7
Session 4 - 60kg 3x5

Wat do?

Is HIIT meant to be run/jog or run/walk?

Because jogging slowly on a treadmill feels terrible.
>>
>>39621278
What kind of shitty gym doesnt have 2.5 AND 1.25kg plates?

I would honestly buy my own and bring them
>>
>>39621307
They do have them but they are in the further section where all the benches are.

Plus the bars are a bit different, the ones in squat/deadlift section have grooves on the bar ends, plates are solid rubber and have different locking system than the ones in benches - those are regular smooth bars with iron plates and spring locks.

It's my first time here so don't be harsh.
I have a question for you /fit/. Recently I started a new job in which I'm practically standing up or walking for almost 8 hours. Result is that at the end of my shift only thing that i feel from middle of thighs down is severe pain. I know that's some kind of after trainning muscle soreness, so my question is, are there any way to prevent this or at least make it less painfull? Or I just need to clench up my ass, man up and wait for muscle gain some strenght?
Also, what's best way to ease sore muscles the day after? Warm shower? Compresses?

>>
>>39621173
Used to have a job with similar conditions, you will get used to it.
Gel pads inside shoes help. That'll be a good investment.

For day-after sore muscles, before they start being sore, alternate cold-hot shower over the muscles for a bit.
>>
>>39621213
Gel pads is retarded advice.

If you want shoes that will actually help you stand you want the sole of them to fit to your feet like wet sand fits to your feet when you stand on it at the beach.

Because most modern running shoes and other sneakers have shitty soles that are too squishy and don't hold you up well, you have to use more stabilizer muscles to keep yourself upright.

What OP needs is a GOOD (read: not shit tier Walmart brand) pair of work boots. Make sure they're not too tight, or too loose. However, when you try them on in the store they should be "snug" but not squeezing your toes or any of your foot to a point of discomfort. Good brands I like are redwing and wolverine. You're looking at dropping $200 or so on footwear, but because you'll be wearing them every day for 8 or so hours they're well worth the expense. Ask someone at the store for help sizing. Use a brannock.

They will most likely still be pretty uncomfortable to wear for the first week or so. This is because the top of the sole of the boot has to mold to the bottom of your foot. After a week of wearing them and walking around I 100% guarantee you they will become your favorite pair of footwear.

About how many calories does a man burn during a lifting session?

>>
Barely anything unless you're doing set after set non-stop keeping heart rate at cardio tier levels.

Lifting in of itself does not burn calories, the muscle gained (say 20 pounds of extra lean body mass) is what gives you the extra metabolism, 20 pounds of extra lean muscle will probably increase your base metabolism by 200 or so calories on-top from normal. So even then, that's not much.

This is why we still have to restrict and semi-starve ourselves to get lean, because lifting itself isn't some easy mode fat loss tool.

Plus you have to take into account that the human body quickly adapts to consistent effort, this is why diet will always make up at least 90% of your body-composition goals, the other 10% is how you train, and what you train for.

Doesn't suit beginners but a good one for more advanced /fit/izens.

I love the idea of running to loose weight, I plan on running for 2 months to loose weight while also beginning a sensible diet. I am 6ft 85kg (187lbs) but I have three main concerns that I hope you can help me deal with:

1: Is it possible to do permanent damage to my knees or any other part of my from running an hour a day for 2 months?

2: What are the best running shoes from cushioning my joints from impact?

3: How many calories would I likely burn in an hours worth of intense running?
