My mom's dog is 17 going on 18. We've had her for a full 17 years. She has really been showing her age lately, and for the past couple years she has been shitting and pissing indoors because she's either unaware or just plain can't make it outside. I always have said to let her live as long as she can walk and eat, but lately the walking part has seemed like a real challenge for her. It has gotten really hard for her to stand up lately, and she is constantly stumbling around and knocking into things. We just keep hoping she'll go in her sleep. When is it finally time to take action and put her to sleep ourselves?
What is your vets opinion about the dogs current condition?
>>2297314
My folks say they don't trust the opinions of the vets here in town. I don't blame them though because we have had some shit experiences with them. We boarded her about a year ago, and the vet that was on site there said she probably had less than a year.
>>2297317
Well, if the vet has record of your dog it's worth a phone call consultation.
Sorry to hear that anon.
Reminder to wrap up your elderly and/or skinny doggos in the cold weather.
Is ur cairn terrier docile?
>>2297179
He's actually a yorkie. And with us he is, but he's pretty much autistic and senile and he has snapped at others before.
Pic related.

all terriers is da same. gud pic tho.
A few years ago, I watched a long, mostly (if at all) unedited HD video of a tsunami, over a long period (perhaps 20 minutes?) in Asia
I'm guessing is was the 2011 Iwata Prefecture in Japan, but none of the videos I can find are the correct one.
It was filmed mostly silent by an amateur viewer from a high vantage point, not ground level. It doesn't cut and shows the water receding and slowing but forcefully coming in, eventually wreaking insane havoc. It was very scary and solemn and I'd like to share it with some one if anyone can help me find it. Thanks
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ltIma_0o0Q
Thank you, I have not seen this one but it isn't the one I'm looking for, the one I saw was not from a beach and showed many buildings and boats being washed away, and oil fires starting on top of the water
Thank you though!

i might know the one you mean? does it start out at sea level and they go somewhere higher?
Friends, my dog is a terrible barker and I need your help. I'd like to preface this by saying I take responsibility for my dog's behavior and I'm not trying to make excuses here.
My living situation isn't the best layout and the upstairs neighbors have to walk through my yard to get to their gate (see pic in next post). When I let my dog out to go to the bathroom and hang out he'll usually run back inside when he hears the neighbors approaching. However, he's been barking hysterically at the neighbors now.
The other night:
>neighbor coming in through the shared gate >dog flips out and starts barking hysterically
>neighbor runs out the gate to the driveway
>I ran out and grab the dog
>immediately apologize to the neighbor and left it at that
Now, the neighbors rarely ever shut their gate so my dog will go in their yard if I don't close the gate before letting him out. Just now:
>let dog out to use the bathroom
>neighbor's gate was open
>go to close it
>neighbor approaching gate from their door at the same time
>dog starts barking hysterically
>snatch him, apologize to neighbor and tell them, "I think it'd be better if the gate was closed"
>ran back to my door with the dog
He's never bitten anyone but he may if he's scared enough. We've tried training but the woman we hired was charging $65/hour and after six sessions he learned to lay down without any focus on his barking so we stopped the training. He didn't bark this bad when we first moved in so idk what changed.
Should I accompany him with a leash at all times? Tie him to the tree when he wants outside time? Go through numerous sessions of basic training to get him to stop barking?
Pic is of barker dog.
Here's the layout of my apartment. The neighbors and I share the entrance gate and the laundry room. They have their own gate to their yard but they rarely ever close it.
your neighbor isn't responsible for your dog
you can see if your neighbor wants to work with you and become friends with your dog, but if not you will need to keep it under control because your yard is not really your yard and it's unsecured
Piss in a cup and splash it on your neighbor's gate, and the door to the laundry room and the shared gate. This will mark your territory and when the neighbor smells it he will start being conditioned to stay on his own side of the apartment.
My sister's boyfriend got stung by this in rural Florida. I suspect this is a millipede of some kind, but I've never seen one that looks like this, and I have lived here for 30 years.
Any idea what species this is?
Thanks in advance!

How interesting.
what should i do if a dog is attacking me? is sticking a finger in its eye a good strategy?
try spinning, that's a good trick
kick it in the face and throat. any plan that involves moving your hands close to the dog's mouth is retarded.
>>2296889
Why is the dog attacking you?
Why does this happen to all my cats' collars? After they wear them for a while, they get all fucked up and fuzzy like this. Sometimes the fuzzies get like 2 inches long. I can't find anything on google about this happening and there's no cat general. They're inside cats and don't try to get their collars off at all. Are nylon collars just terrible quality or something? I'd be considering leather collars, they look way nicer anyway, but none are breakaway.
the scratch at it and it tears the tiny fibers and makes it fuzzy
keep your cat inside, it doesn't need a collar and the outside doesn't need your cat
>>2296945
This.
Get a collar made of different material if it bothers you.
>>2296945
that's stupid advice. if it's a grown cat used to running around, it kind of needs to go outside. nevermind that my last cat was an indoors-cat.
buy better collars, I guess? i've seen cats around my area with (bitch to desrcribe) non-scratchable collars like picrelated.
my guess is, the collar in OP smells, or takes on smells really good, which the cat doesn't like, which is why it scratches, which is why the collars get fucked. ever had one of those festival wristbands on for a long time? no matter if you shower regularly, if you work hard and sweat, it'll start smelling after a while. being damp doesn't help it.
That feel when you realize your dog will die a virgin.

Hello, so I have this Manx cat and she's 2 years old. She's spayed and basically she loves running out immediately when the door opens. I hate it so much because she grew up without any other animals and one time she attacked a chihuahua, every time she sees another animal she gets VERY hostile. I have to make sure it's safe for her to roam around so there's times I want to keep her inside a room and there's times where I want her to roam around knowing the area is clear. How can I let her know she has permission or something she can understand? Thanks in advance
>>2296724
You could start by not letting her leave the fucking house you irresponsible twat. Outdoor cat owners need to be castrated.
You could have sex with her to give her some sexual satisfaction maybe then she won't be so aggressive!
>>2296739
i doubt that'd help the problem in any way, but i'd still say it'd be a good idea for op to rub her pussy from time to time just because it's nice
mi gata tiene eso , le comenzo a sangrar desde ayer. si alquien sabe que es ayuden

Good fucking luck getting your cat diagnosed here. Stick to local vets.

You think brown people are going to do a good job? They have been cutting open puppies and stuffing them with heroin to smuggle into the United States.
ITT we discuss the best ways of starting an effective homestead, maintaining one, and deciding the stock/s you want to raise and food for said livestock.
I think a couple dairy cows and a bull is a good way to start. Plenty of cheese butter, milk, ect you can sell and yearly veal. Of course chickens are a given and pigs would be great too to throw any excess food waste into their pins
I was also looked up rabbits. They are so cute and fun to raise.
New Zealand whites seem to have excellent meat, but I was also thinking about getting different breeds for variety of meats and especially pelts.
Anyone else making plans to build a self sufficient homestead? I even plan on building near a good source of water to harness it for my well/energy.
>>2296588
Cows in my opinion are actually not the best yield for what the require. They need a ton of food, a lot of good, flat land that could be put to better use. They need a large shelter and a lot of water. Generally for small scale (one family) homesteading, goats are the go to because they can use the shitty land, you can just keep them on a tether if needed, don't eat or drink as much as a cow, don't need as much care and are hardy. It's also much easier to sell a single or a few goats rather than a single cow
>>2296605
The biggest issue with goats is that they're some of the most difficult livestock to keep contained. They're curious jumpers and climbers who will test each and every bit of their boundary. And, if something in their pen can be destroyed, it will be.
I second them for a great bang-for-your-buck animal, along with rabbits and chickens, as well as having great personalities and being more fun to watch than your standard grazers. But, if you're going to keep them, make sure you read up very well.

/out/ homegrowman thread is better for this
An idiot friend of mine thought it would be a funny joke to buy me giant sequoia seeds now that I have no garden.
Am I insane for acctually propagating one with the intent of growing is as a bonsai to shove in his face?
>>2296386
Insane? No, sounds like a nice project though I wonder how long it'd actually take to get something that looks good.
If you give up you could always just give them away on craigslist or something.
>>2296386
>Am I insane
No, but you'll have to be patient.
>>2296393
It will take several years for it to look like a real bonsai.
It won't last long indoors.
hey an, I made this thread about my senior dog who is having some medical issues >>2293010
so he has improved on the prednisone. One of his paws has healed enough to not be bandaged so it can air out and the other seems to be headed in the same direction, albeit slowly. Over all, he seems to be doing better. His skin is less inflamed too and his two front paws aren't any worse. The hotspots on his face are healing up wonderfully
That being said, the big problem now is if his body can actually tolerate the prednisone he has to be on to keep his immune system in check while his feet heal. The vet has said that if he can get through the next month of being on the pred and doesn't flare up once he starts taking a lower dose, he should be okay. She's also consulting with a canine dermatologist on his case but we haven't heard back yet.
has anyone had experience with their senior dog on prednisone long term? How did you lessen the muscle wasting side effect? The vet said there's nothing we can do about it but I was just wondering if anyone had any suggestions or experience. I would actually do anything to him or give him anything without getting her okay first of course though
pic related of my old boy
>>2296321
Not long term, only like 2 weeks, but it makes them drink more and pee more. Expect accidents, and don't get mad at them. My poor girl was pissing herself while running down the stairs to get outside.
How bad is the muscle wasting? How long does he need to be on pred?
correction I **WOULDN'T do anything without talking to the vet first. She's been absolutely amazing through all of this. I guess you can actually find good vets these days
>>2296325
>drinking/peeing
Yeah we saw this pretty much immediately, he's had two accidents before we got on a new schedule of taking him out more frequently and he's been fine since. I honestly feel guilty because I know he must have felt horrible about peeing on the floor. He hasn't done that in about 9 years.
>how bad is the muscle wasting
It's almost exclusively in his back legs/rump. I can see the outline of his leg bones and little bumps on the top of his butt from the hip/pelvis bones. I'm just worried it will get worse though. Right now he still seems to be trying around okay when he gets up, but he's also on tramydol so he is spending a lot of his time sleeping when he isn't peeing/eating/drinking
>how long
Vet estimated that if he keeps progressing the way he is that he would be on this same dosage for a month, then after that tapering his dosage down and seeing if his feet flair up again
I just feel so bad. I love him so much, I don't want to make him slowly suffer
>>2296321
It may depend on the dosage. Taking over or equal to 1mg/kg prednisone for a long time will bring some troubles like pancreatitis or Cushing's syndrome you know, but of course all vets know it well.
You can also check ALP(ALKP) by blood test, which gets increased easily during predni treatment, if you worry about it.
> How did you lessen the muscle wasting side effect?
I also want to know it.
I hope she will get well soon.
Do you make your own pet treats?
Sometimes. in my experience baked treats don't keep very well, and all the recipes I find yield a huge amount of biscuits since I cut them so tiny.
More often I make little ice cream treats for my dog. A big scoop of Greek yogurt, a big scoop of puréed pumpkin or a whole banana, and some powdered peanut butter in the blender. I freeze the stuff in an ice cube tray.
There's a recipe out there for biscuits with parsley in it. Don't make it--found out the hard way it gives my dog the rocket shits.
>>2296317
I just use cut up pieces of hot dog or lunch meat.
>>2296317
My dog likes vegetables so we usually share a carrot or some broccoli. She likes dehydrated bananas too, so we'll eat them whilst walking. Of course we also make beef jerky and she gets some (a small amount of sodium for hers)
