How can non livestock guardian dogs EVEN compete?
>>2296266
Is that a Aidi?
Is it just me, or is awareness of livestock guardian dogs growing lately?
>>2296472
With the reintroduction of predators they are becoming more common as herds can coexist with predator populations now.
Is this a brown recluse? What's the best way to kill it and avoid getting bitten?
>>2295675
Burn the house
>>2295677
It'll crawl at me out of the wreckage and then I won't have anywhere to go.
Nice labrador
What's the best, well-rounded pet? I'm talking about one that averages best in the following categories:
>Upkeep: Cost to buy, house, feed, and care for medically.
>Messiness: Poop and pee, shedding, and smell.
>Asthetics: Cuteness or coolness. Is the habitat an eyesore?
>Entertainment: Can you cuddle it? Train it? Take it places?
>Difficulty: Is it easy to train? Will it cause property damage or noise complaints? Is it easy to keep healthy?
Give your chosen pet 1 to 5 stars in each category.
I say a rabbit.
Upkeep ***
Messiness ***
Asthetics *****
Entertainment ****

Upkeep:3/5
Initial cost are high but after that they're super cheap
Messiness:2/5
Asthetic:5/5
Entertainment:5/5
Difficulty:2/5
They don't have commercial foods yet.
They're easy to care for, are as smart and friendly as rat's. Live as long as dogs and are cute as hell.

i have 10lb dog that costs less than my rabbit so op's projections are off
Well, rats seem like the best based off of that list, i have 2 myself.
>upkeep: ***
>messiness: *** (depends on rat, males are more smelly and it could just be the rat itself)
>Asthetics: ****
>Entertainment: ***** (you can cuddle it, train it and even take it places on your shoulder)
>Difficulty: *** (could be a bit of a hassle to train and they like to chew on stuff but they are almost completely silent)
I'll start,
Oh, Im glad about there not being those giant fish from the times of the dinosaurs, like the shonisaurus, but he's cute. :)

Small mammal thread! Rats, mice, hammies, Guinea pigs, ferrets, sugar gliders, etc.
Post pics and tips. Ask questions.

I guess rat general is here again
>>2275158
We'll yeah
There's no point in having 2 threads or calling it rat general when small mammalia questions can be asked there anyway
I prefer the small mammal general. Even though I own rats, I still enjoy discussing/learning about other small mammals.
I hope to open a small mammal rescue one day. So many people give up Guinea pigs, hamsters, etc or neglect them.
Hi /an/. Long time lurker, first time poster.
This morning I was making some ramen and noticed my pet Zebra finch didn't make his usual chirping when I jangled some silverwear in the drawer. I checked on him, and the bugger had evidently passed away not long before, being a little cold but rigor mortis not having set in. Still had plenty of food and water, and it wasn't even that cold last night.
So ends the reign of Mr. "Immortal Finch", a male whom I purchased as an adolescent from a private finch breeder in upstate New York during the summer of 1999. He's survived half a dozen moves across the continental US, living in 4 different states, and outlived all the females we've got him by a power of ten.
Here Lies:
Immortal Finch 1999-2017.
Rest in piece you stubborn old cheeping bastard.

Wow nice position for the Camera man. Should upload more of these
Let's get a thread started for native fish. Anything aquarium related with native fish can be posted here.
>>2298182
Nice image. Glad I'm an ant.
>>2298182
>native fish
I'm pretty sure all fish are native to somewhere, op. You've gotta be more specific.
>>2298222
For the purposes of this board native is something non-invasive you could scoop out of your respective area and is not likely to be sold in an average pet store.
No need to limit an already tiny hobby to just North America or Europe.
Why don't herd animals just overpower and stomp the shit out of predators? They always outnumber any animals that prey on them and they're fairly big and powerful.
Like, we've all seen a lion catching a hoof to the face. Why not just fucking gang up on any lions/wolves/predators that try to start shit?
>>2298167
Securing your own genes is more important than helping some schmuck who'd fuck your waifu.
Alpacas can do that sometimes.
why does this question get asked once a week
What ground based animals (example frogs) could be kept with lizard skinks? Preferably from the same area and preferably able to have groups.
*Crocodile Skinks
>>2298161
none
and based on that question I doubt you'd be someone who should keep crocodile skinks either.
2298164 i am researching this shit so i know in the future i'm not planning on getting anything 2 do with reptiles for 2 years so maybe don't assume i have 99999 of the little fuckers already
How do I tell my Mom to give her kitten up for adoption? My mother is mentally ill and I don't think she is capable of caring for a pet, but I know that she loves the animal and would be heartbroken if I told her this. I would adopt it myself but my lifestyle doesn't allow me to own a pet, I am away for work at 2 to 6 weeks at a time. I just think that the animal needs to be housed by someone who can actually care for it.
how fucked up are you given your mom can't look after a fucking garbage cat?
how can your mom take care of herself if she can't feed a cat. you need to commit her someplace
>>2298149
I'm normal, my parents divorced when I was very young and my dad, who is a successful businessman, raised me as a single father.
We all know guppies breed easily as long as you cover your filter's intake, but how come no one breeds a ton and then eats them?
>>2298100
why the fuck would you. just buy a few anchovies for lunch
>>2298100
I actually do eat them. As a preworkout meal.
Why do my female guppys always get all sickly skinny and die?
