My university has cat-feeding stations. They are just simple wooden sheds with a bowl of food.

I don't know how to feel about it.
It's nice seeing cats at night, but you can't really pet them.
I saw a opossum the other night too, so I think it's attracting wildlife.

Is it really hurting anything though?

My uni had a catch, fix, release program which worked really well for ferals. If the cat was friendly I think they would fix it and bring it to an adoption center. I used to get email for their monthly nightings where they would go out and catch all the cats they could
>>
>>2300359
Feeding feral cats doesn't sound like such a good idea, unless you use the occasion to catch and fix them, I guess.
>>
>>2300376
There could be a program like that. I have only been here for a few days so I don't know if they are just feeding them for the fun of it or to take them to shelters.

I was thinking of copping a cat, but I wanted an Egyptian Mau which are pretty rare. Anyway I was told that this was a Mau mix, does that seem legit?

what's worse? ignorant owners or lazy owners?
20 posts and 3 images submitted.
>>
I'd say lazy, as they KNOW what they're doing is bad for the animal, yet continue to do it nonetheless.
>>
i'd say ignorant are worse

probably because i'm the latter and my pets are still cared for properly and trained

There were at least 6 cockroaches on my kitchen, all at once, and 1 on my room and 1 outside. How do I get rid off cockroaches? How do I prevent then from invading my house?
14 posts and 4 images submitted.
>>
roaches are pretty common where im from. number one tip is to clean your house. dont leave food out and lay traps. you can find them at hardware stores or you can make your own. take a big jar and put some pasta sauce at the bottom

I had to take care of one for two weeks.
He was boring. Shy as fuck at first, and then obedient to the point where I felt like I was taking care of a computer and not of an animal with free will. Even when we played fetch it just seemed like it was a task and not a game to him. When he came home after his walk he would stare at a wall and do nothing.
Maybe all of them aren't like that, this is just my experience

I still loved him tho, he was a good boy
>>
Every once in a while I meet them at the dog parks we go to. They're lovely but a little small and delicate for me. Their heads are so velvety, though. Better than a horse's nose.

Why haven't manatees gone extinct? They don't seem to have any self preservation, they are good at grazing on aquatic vegetation and swimming against currents but that's about it. During trips to visit friends in Florida I've gone swimming with wild manatees, a few even accompanied by calfs, and the mothers didn't seem to mind me petting them or their offspring and in some cases were even curious and actively approached me. Why don't they act more cautious around humans? A lot of them even have scars from moterboat injuries, did they just obliviously let themselves get hit or not swim away in time?

When they evolved this wasn't exactly an issue, plenty animals with the capacity to defend themselves or even prey on humans have been wiped out purely as they were seen as a threat or competition for food, their docile nature is probably why they are still in existence. Where they greatly armoured terrifying beasts they would most likely have been trophy hunted into oblivion or destroyed on sight.
>>
I guess they evolved in areas without predators. Not sure why sharks don't eat them but alright

To all you NEET botanists in here, I was wondering where you learned advanced horticulture, it's my plan in the end to be growing multiple nootropical plants, germinating between different cannabis/shrooms/dmt and other plants, and also knowing which light wave spectrum is the healthiest for plants, stuff like that.

Alright, /an/ I currently have a 30 gallon, tropical fishtank with live breeders (Swordtails and Guppies, mostly) but I am taking an interest in South American Cichlids. Is it worth having them? And if it is, what is your suggestions for tank specs and type of Cichlid? Thanks in advance, anons.
Pic semi-related, my current tank.

>>
>>2299801
Most get too big for your tank. Smaller ones like Rams would work but all cichlids will eat the babies of the other fish or your adult fish if they get big enough.
>>
>>2299892
Didn't plan on putting them in the same tank, that's why I asked for tank specs.
>>
>>2299942
If money isn't an issue see if you can find a petco with a 75g. They're $1 per gallon is going on. Would open up your options tremendously. But 55 is fine for a lot. Avoid convict cichlids. They breed like crazy and will over run your tank. The spawning pair will also probably kill any other tank mates. A andinoacara rivulatus is a easy fish. Can be aggressive but always depends on the cichlid. Nice colors and can live there life in a 55. Geophagus are really nice and have better temperaments along with severums. They're both pretty unique looking as well.
