I did it /an/, I caught the mouse that's been loose in my dad's house.
This is actually the second one I've gotten in a live trap this week; I let the first one go in a meadow a few miles away. I'm reluctant to do the same to this one, though, since IIRC it's the one who's an insanely voracious chewer; we had a coffee can containing cooking grease chewed all the way through, and the side of the trap this one was in had a huge hole chewed in it as well. It's also getting a lot colder out here and there's snow now.
What's my best course of action here? Trying to decide between a.) driving way the hell far away, ditching it, and hoping it won't come back or b.) seeing if the vet will euthanize it humanely. Is there a better option?
Pic related; it's the beast. It's staying in an old terrarrium until I figure out what to do with it.
Here's what it did to the trap it was caught in. This happened in less than four hours.
Keep him for the winter. They aren't that hard to take care of. Just give them some paper towels to tear up and get cuddly in, give them vegetables and the occasional fruit, and a small bowl of water

Isn't this a deer mouse though? I thought they were the worst kind to keep in the house because of disease risk.
Also I'm afraid he's going to chew through the walls the enclosure he's in and escape. This little fucker can do some damage.
Poor little guy was discovered with hay weged under his eye, just now, at 11:30 at night. With a lot of caution and teamwork, I was able to remove it with a pair of tweezers, after careful soaking.
There was blood at the time of removal, and prior to that, there were signs of infection; swelling, redness in the scalera, cloudiness, and some puss.
We will be taking him to the vet tomorow, but aren't sure what to do about the infection/irritation in the meantime. We've tried to very carefully rinse his eye with some water, but that's all, so far. Letting him recover a bit from the stress, as well.
Does anyone have any advice for how we should proceed?
>>2295801
No idea why my phone rotated the picture like that...
Also, it deleted my trip. Ffs.
>>2295801
>>2295804
The thicker end was in/under his eye, a little more than half-way.
Other than keeping an eye on it (!) and watching for infection i dont know what else you CAN do. Those things usually just heal with time, much like when you get something caught in your own eye.
One of our puppies has apparently developed a condition where his hip bones do not seat right in his leg. He does not use that leg anymore to walk around. The vet said it was a genetic issue, and although surgery can fix the issue they can not guarentee he will be pain free and a permanent fix. Also his other leg is starting to do the same. People are telling me euthanizing is something to consider. Thoughts?
>>2295709
That's what you get from going to some shitty byb.
Isn't that called hip dysplasia?
>>2295748
Our two dogs just fucked before we got one neutered.
What are some things puppy need to learn through supervision/training before it's too late? Will they learn better as they get older or will they become too stubborn?
Pic related: my 3 month old Basset Hound. Pissed on the stairs for the 3rd time. I think he's trying to kill me.
Never too late to train a dog but it gets harder if you allow habits to set in
Take him outside to relieve himself and praise/treat him.
Or use disposable pads.
>>2295773
Don't fucking use pads.
You will train your dog it's okay to shit inside.
Then when you get pissy that it's shitting inside, it won't understand why.
I swear to god, whoever invented and pushed pads for puppy training should be shot.
>>2295793
You don't know how to use it then.
My dog pisses and shits on the pad everytime. If there's no pad he won't do it unless he can't hold it in which is why I frequently take him out to the yard a few times each day.
The pad helps when I'm not there for the rest of the day.
I was talking with a neighbour earlier and she said for both her labradoodles they weren't allowed to pick their own puppies, but were selected one by the breeder based loosely on her request (colour, temperament, etc.) which was a bit disheartening for my partner who wants to get a boxer soon and was keen to sit with a litter and select a puppy that way.
I'd never heard of this weirdness in my life. Growing up we had two fox terriers, one following the other, both from registered breeders, and both times sat with the litter and chose a puppy. I'd never heard of a breeder choosing one for you.
Is this is thing that happens? (Australia here)
The best breeders will choose a puppy for you.
They have spent 8-12 weeks with the puppies and know their temperaments, energy levels, and all their little quirks. They definitely know the puppies better after 3 months than your boyfriend would after 10 minutes.
If they're dead set on shelling out the money for a breeder, it should be a proper one that does health testing and actually gives a shit about the puppies. This is one of the ways you know they actually give a shit. They won't let a more shy puppy go to a big energetic household where they'd wilt and be overwhelmed, for example. They know which puppy would be the most confident and willing to hold his own.
Despite what your boyfriend might think, there's no bonding at first sight with a puppy. They will bond with the puppy no matter if it happened to toddle over to their lap or the breeder plopped it there.
>>2295358
A breeder recommending a puppy based on what they know of them is different to arriving and having them say "here's your dog" and then you leave though. Just saying "This one's a bit too shy for your situation" is preferable, right?
I think the "shelling out the money for a breeder" thing is a bit misleading. We've no intention of showing it, but there's a fairly strong culture (growing at least) against puppy-farms here, so people tend to find reputable breeders, even if they're not grand champion bloodlines or anything.
>>2295361
>reputable breeders
Reputable breeders literally do this.
They're not just handing you a puppy and you leave. It's like your neighbor said: the breeder gets to know you a little too.
If your boyfriend is so pressured by the growing culture being all about how bad puppy mills are, why dont they do a better turn for a dog and adopt a boxer from a shelter? They can meet all the dogs they want.
>it was just a dog anon
Is it me or anyone else imagines this to be the reply to OP after discovering he got cucked by his gf with a dog?
wtf would you think that lol
is this the furry board
>>2295308
No. Just everyday 4chan.
Made a terrarium on a whim. I would love a spider or insect but have zero experience. Any one have some species that would work in that so I can read up on them.
>Made a terrarium
no, you prepared a killing jar for moss and selaginella.
I used to do this as a kid and kept all kinds of beetles, snails and insects in it until I realised I was retarded and the poor moss was dying, the insect was dying, everything was dying but mold.
Mold feeds on our mistakes.
>>2295262
>it's an insect deathtrap you fucking monster!
It's time for you to take few handfuls of sleeping pills you hysterical fuckup. It looks nice OP but I would start with a screen top for it if you could find one to match. Otherwise look for some local insects on the internet and see what you would like. A single cricket would be a good start imo.
Hey /an/ what the fuck is this?
retarded
Abuse
pretty sure that's a training device for future whores
Greetings, /an/. About ten months ago, I rescued a cat who had some sort of fracture at his elbow that caused the bones to fuse together at a 90 degree angle. Pic related, it's his right leg. He has several red flags that make it seem very likely he was abused, although I am not sure if the injury itself was the result of abuse. It took me a few months to gain his trust.
I took him to the vet to get him neutered, vaccinated, and just checked out overall. The vet explained how he walks with a limp as a result of a bone fracture that was not set and did not heal properly. He said that the cat appeared to be in no pain, and that surgery would require re-breaking of the bone, and that it would be an intense healing and recovery process. He said it was entirely possible that the cat would not even heal all the way, and would still not walk properly.
It seems to cause him no distress, and he's able to effectively catch mice in our basement without a fourth functioning leg, but I still feel badly about it when I see him hobbling around.
Do you have any animals with injuries that you chose not to fix? Would you try and fix his leg?
If he's fine the way he is , I wouldn't do anything. Even a small surgical intervention would have an impact and would take a long time until fully recovered ( this goes for humans too , obviously ). If there's the risk of your cat not fully recover from the surgery , I wouldn't take it. Also , that's a very , very cute cat , anon. Take care of him and good luck!
Feeling bad is understandable, but there's no need to if the injury doesn't hinder or pain him. He doesn't know the difference and is not conscious of the fact that he's crippled.
I've seen plenty of animals with congenital defects, poorly-healed injuries, etc. that got along just fine. The shelter I work out once adopted out a kitten with a similar fracture to what you described, except it was in his shoulder rather than the leg itself. The shoulder bone jutted out dramatically and looked awful, but it didn't bother him a bit, and as far as I know he grew up just fine.
>>2295134
That kind of surgery sounds way too complicated; I would avoid.
It's good for him to get exercise (nothing too intense), and have a good blood flow to that leg. Keeping him at a healthy weight is paramount as well. And be aware that he may develop arthritis in those areas so look for s/s. Avoid being rough with him, and be careful how you pick him up.
Concentrate on the now and don't think too much about the future. Their lives are short so enjoy him and continue to give him a comfortable life. You are a very kind person to adopt an animal with special needs; my best for the both of you
How can I got about making sure my dog is cared for bathroom-wise while I am at work? I'm scheduled to go pick up my new pupper in two weeks, but I live in an apartment and I typically work 12-13 hours a day 3-4 days a week. I can take him out before and after work, but what can I do during those 12 hours I'm gone? I grew up around dogs (GSDs and Bassetts) and cats all my life, but no family and apartment living is something new. Puppy pads seem like one solution but I can't help but wonder if there is something else I could do.
get someone else to take him out.
i hope you're not getting a puppy.
>>2295052
Bring it to a guy who has dogs. Your neighbours. There's also places that basically function as a "dog kindergarten", there you can bring him as well.
Having said that, it seems mental to think of this NOW. Even moreso, it also seems kind of irresponsible.
Jesus fucking Christ, mate, I don't even have a dog and know this shit.
>>2295060
>Only NEETS and stay at home mom households should have dogs, much less puppies
I want you to kill yourself. I want you to go out, buy a rope, knot it up, put it around your neck, and kick the stool.
'sup /an/.
I just brushed my dog (year and a half golden retriever) and barely got any hair. I haven't brushed her in a month (she got a shower two weeks ago or so too), and before that I used to brush her every week or so (sometimes twice when she was shedding a lot) and find a lot of hair.
Why less hair just now? Is this normal? I always used a brush with little pins, then an undercoat rake and a softer brush to finish.
Her fur doesn't look any different from usual.
She's fine. There's no problem with her not shedding. There's only an issue with over shedding to the point of balding.
is it cold where you are? if it is, she's probably just holding on to her undercoat.
I really do like animals, but I will never understand youtube social justice warriors who comment on every video of cats fighting or frogs screaming and shit.
like yeah they're animals, they have limited understanding of the world around them, they're going to fight with each other over dumb shit and they're going to get scared when you move them out of the road. wild animals probably think we're all demons.
why does everybody who encounters an animal at all have to defend themselves from these virtue signaling idiots?
Why are you so upset over this when you know the answer? Like keep it moving.
>>2295008
Because people nowadays like to find things to be angry about and to tell everyone else how angry they are.
>>2295012
This makes me angry!
Gonna work at an animal supply store selling stuff for animals and owners
Is there any think I'll need to know like dog breeds or it's not important?
>>2294685
You don't need to know anything. Just know where stuff is and point it out when asked.
Also expect to be insulted, absolute morons and stuff, welcome to customer service.
In a pet store you don't need to know anything about animals other than how to keep just enough from dying to make a reasonable profit. But you should know as much as you possibly can. Don't be one of those droolers that can't even sex a dog.
You'll learn stuff as you go like feeding dogs with mange to yeast-free food, dogs with constipation pumpkin, and with diarrhea the starchy water left after boiling rice. All little things I learned while working at Petsmart 3 years

Hi /an/,
Just caught a Indian Ring Neck male in my garden.
This is him in our old finch cage going to go out tomorrow and get him a bigger cage. What size is good for a single bird?
Any tips would be great? The good news is it seems socialized as he was taking fruit out of my hand inside the cage with out any issues. Hope I can have him on my shoulder by the end of the month.
I want to call him Thunderbird after the Native American legends.

>>2294414
Hmm.. Someones lost pet?
You best put up some found posters anon, help reunite it with its family. No responses? Congratulations, you have a new bird. Responses? Congratulations, you just patched up someones heart. Make sure you call them a dildo licker for letting him out in the first place.
>>2294444
Am I allowed to check my own quad quads?
Also, make sure you are very vague about it.. "found bird at xxx location, appears to be tame. Please call xxx if you are missing a bird" with some bullshit clipart of a bird in a suit or something. Make sure you get a good description and a name, and if you can, see if it responds to said name. I found a cockatiel once and put a poster up, had 4 calls but only one matched the description. They even told me he was mad for toast, and if I went and put my toaster down he would go nuts. Sure enough, he started singing his heart out.
I fucking love tiels.
>>2294414
My friend lost a bird exactly like this one.
Actually, he wasn't my friend and he kept the bird in shit conditions before it got out by accident. Treat it nicely, op.
