Has anyone had any luck acheiving less than 30ms of total lag when playing on modern emulators/LCD tvs.? Is this achievable with a laptop and wired controller? It kills me that I can only beat certain games like mike tysons punch out on a CRT. I know it might be an unpopular opinion but I love how retro games look on an LCD screen.

Games look better emulated than having an original console hooked up to a CRT. Hope that makes you mad
>>
>>3628536
they definitely don't and you are just baiting

Fuck off. There are better ways of playing nes games then blowing into carts and staring at a blurry x-ray box.

So when I was rewatching the film "Jaws", I noticed a coin-operated arcade machine in one scene. But this movie was filmed in 1974, long before true computer games like Space Invaders were widely playable. I knew that simple non-digital arcade machines had been around for a long time (for example, pinball machines), but I'd never really thought about them.

However, the machine in the movie was a light-gun style game which seems to be pretty sophisticated. So I looked into these early "electro-mechanical" games, and some of them look pretty interesting. According to Wikipedia, some used full film-projectors with live-action footage (like Nintendo's "Wild Gunman"), and others incorporate mechanical models along with fairly complex controls (like Sega's "Missile").

So I guess I'm just wondering if anyone else is curious about these "proto-video games". Does anyone have experience with these devices? Do you know any of these games that were particularly fun / unique / stupid? Or is this genre so catastrophically simple and boring that it's not even worth discussing?

I love electro-mechanical games but they're an experience that really has to be had first hand. There's no emulating them. I would really like to have one in my home arcade because they're more beautiful and unique as art.

Yeah, I have a vintage Pachinko machine and a mantle clock both of which I should really get finished refurbishing before I try to pick up historically significant pieces even though I know where some are sitting.

I feel I already own all the good games for each system. At about 30 games per system across various genres I feel my library nearing it's end. There are a hand full of 200$-plus games that I am still on the look out for but other then that I feel about done. Anything I buy now would decrease the overall quality of my library. Should I move on to newer systems?

I just don't know anymore...

I'd go with newer systems.

What if instead of collecting for the sake of collecting you just play what interests you and if enough games are on a system you don't own you buy it and those games?

Try Langrisser series instead for cute grills.

I'm playing TR3 for the first time. Does Lara really infiltrate a US government base, kill their personnel and doggos, and steal an artifact that they presumably rightfully found, and not for the greater good or anything but just because she wants it for research?

Anyway, TR thread.

Yeah.

Lara don't give a fuck, she's cool like that.

She has also blown up Atlantis, re-extincted the dinosaurs, smuggled weapons, and murdered endangered animals by the bucket.

Lara does not give a single fuck.

I think the comic book series do a good job at giving her personality, and give meaning to her artifacts search, and make her into a 'honest' tomb raider that only does this shit to give to museum or to protect humanity.

I recommend it by the way they are good comics. Especially the 20 or so first issues, with the first writer.
Next writer for 10 issues or so is the worst of the series; then a 3rd writer comes in to end the series and it's good again.

I was playing Duck Hunt when suddenly my friends showed up at my house and laughed that I still play "old and boring" games like this. One friend told me to try the new games, as he unlocked his phone to the notification of a raid on his base on COC.
Why do these people make fun of us for playing old games? Is it really that funny?

Of course it is, you're playing a fun game, he just can't express it correctly, thus he think his reaction needs to be to laugh at the game not with the game.

What's the best character combo?

Also, general thoughts on this game.

First time playing, I'm doing a Duran, Hawk, and Angela combo.

Pretty awesome game so far! I've already played Secret of Mana, and Seiken Densetsu 3 basically improves everything from the story, to the combat, to the menus. My only complaints so far are collision detection and art style. The characters are so big, sometimes it's hard to know if an enemy is in front of them. The art style (specifically colour) looks a little dull when compared to Secret of Mana. Also, the character animations are waayyy too exaggerated.

>What's the best character combo?
Hawk and Kevin are just much better as physical attackers with their Double Basic Attack, the latter much more so and he can probably just win the entire game by jamming the Y button so that's two slots filled.

I can see the 3rd slot as being just about anyone who isn't Angela - Duran offers Sabers and some good Techs, Lise offers Stat Up/Downs depending on whether she's Light/Dark so you use her to cover if Hawk isn't going Dark (unless you want to buy a lot of Black Market buff items) and Carlie is a Healer with some debuff options on Dark too.

>Also, general thoughts on this game.
Great waifus.

Not really that great gameplay.

The weapons are poorly balanced and most enemies are bullet sponges. Other than that though it's a great game.
