What are the advantages of using a translation patch over simply learning Japanese?
>>
>>3625801
saves you from learning a unlogical language
>>
>>3625802
>a unlogical language
*an unlogical language.
You can't even speak English.
>>
>>3625813
English isn't logical. No natural language is but English is pretty bad.
>>
>>3625815
And logical languages are awful for art. There will never be a great writer in Esperanto
>>
>>3625818
Not all constructed languages are logical. Logical language are Loglan, Lojban, gua\spi and Ceqli.
>>
>>3625801

Japanese is like 10th on my list because it isn't (to me) very useful or interesting.

I'll get there one day.

Wow, this thread never even had a chance.

Good job autist, good job retards for engaging in this retarded conversation that had squat to do with the Op, which btw is one of the best generals on /vr/ right now.

You people, on the other hand, are a bunch of losers.
>>
>>3625828
What languages do you rank higher?
French, Spanish, Portuguese, Mandarin, Cantonese, Arabic, German, Russian and Korean?
As far as retro games go Japanese is king.
>>
>>3625832
>generals on /vr/
>>>/vg/
>>
>>3625832
Your Esperanto butthurt is showing.
Enjoy your lack of retro games and literature.
>>
>>3625836

Spanish was the first language I learned after English because I live in the USA so I thought it might help me get jobs. (It hasn't.)

Mandarin is super interesting, but also scary so I put that off. I'm currently learning Croatian which is fuck useless but I really really like the way it sounds.

Japanese is definitely king for video games, but there isn't a huge amount of non-translated games I NEED to play. I encourage everyone to learn new languages though! Japanese would probably be a popular one around here.

>>3625832

Sorry. These threads really are super nifty!
>>
>>3625846
> I'm currently learning Croatian which is fuck useless
Can't you learn Cyrillic so it doubles as Serbian?

I believe Japanese can help as a stepping board to Chinese since you get used to logograms without getting overwhelmed by them.
>>
>>3625846
>I'm currently learning Croatian

Zašto?
>>
Since this is a translation thread, can we discuss translations released by pirate devs/bootleggers back in the day?
>>
I'm pretty good at mandarin. I should probably start using shitty Chinese knockoffs as learning material. Apparently there's an NES version of Golden Sun in Chinese out there somewhere but I could never find the download
>>
Someone translate hanjuku hero pls
>>
Goddamnit why can't we just talk about translations without the "just learn Japanese" master race coming in and everyone else getting triggered by them and responding.

To be fair, its also good for niche untranslated 2d porn.

and there's plenty of other porn out there of all kinds

i genuinely don't care about japanese, so why should i have to learn it
>>
>>3626090
You don't. As >>3625846 put it you don't have to play Japanese games.
Japanese adult videos might be a different matter.

Mizzurna Falls and Ladystalker are the two games I always wanted to play.

This poor thread.

In other news, I finished the rough draft translation for E.V.O. PC-98's original manual. We'll be releasing that with the patch.

We've got a couple of places where we talk about it. One is my Twitter account where I mostly talk about the translation-related part of it and other shit, so it's not the greatest source.

I think the main place would be at either our website or the RHDN thread. All of which can be found linked from here: http://www.romhacking.net/forum/index.php/topic,21731.0.html

We don't exactly have a lot to update with often (mostly because we're getting closer to the actual release), but whenever we have something new to talk about related to the release we'll post it at the website or the RHDN thread/RHDN itself.
>>
a PC-98 game that could really use a fan translation is giten megami tensei

Were educational games ever a thing in Japan? Might translate some moonrune Math Blaster or something.

Probably just standard adventure games, though, I wouldn't mind that either.
>>
>> Star Cruiser (GEN)
As a translator I feel insulted seeing this listed as a translation.
They openly admitted that it's just a machine translation.

We (guys working on E.V.O. PC-98) like what we've seen in the PC-98 catalog so far and are probably going to continue working with it on other games. Can't guarantee they'll be games that you'll like, but we've been discussing where to go after E.V.O. Is out the door. Got a couple of options lined up, but nothing concrete yet.

Honestly, most of what we choose depends on our hacker's ability to dump and reinsert the text. Normal, I know, but this is his (as well as my) first romhack, so it's going to continue to be a learning experience with some hurdles we might not be able to overcome.

That being said, here's a few games we're actively looking into as options. Again, no guarantees.

Libros de Chilam Balam
Rusty
Appareden Fukuryu no Shou
Void Vanity Fleet (Because Stupid)

Mostly though, we want to do some shorter, less text-heavy projects before doing another longer project like E.V.O.

Personally though, I want to do a game called Different Realm - Kuon no Kenja. The bad part of that one is that it was made by a company called Glodia, and they were well known for using compression to allow them to have a ton of text and cutscenes of sorts. Makes it difficult to reinsert or even dump properly. Glodia's games in general seem like something I'd love to release, but those are most likely going to be for a long ways down the road.

What do you guys recommend for learning Japanese? I tried Tae Kim as per >>>/a/djt 's recommendation but I found it too... bare I guess.
>>
>>3627646
Grammar is but one small subsection of a language. Try Japanese the manga way.
>>
>>3627646
Tae Kim's guide focuses on grammar, which is a major hurdle in the language.
>>
>>3626613
>Were educational games ever a thing in Japan?
Yes, in fact one of /vr/'s most coveted lost games is a Japanese educational game by Osamu Sato.
>>
>>3627656
>Japanese the manga way
Aside from the kinda dumb name, I looked quickly through its pages and it seems to be a much nicer alternative. Thank you very much anon.
>>
>>3627348
Everything pales in comparison to the PC98.
DOS/V, x68k and Towns only have few original games and are dominated by low effort PC98 ports.
PC88 has a decent number of original games but a lot of games are also on the PC98 with various advantages.
X1 is minor and FM7 even more so.
PC-60 or the MZ series are forgettable.

MSX has been milked dry by Europeans and bandwaggoners. Various games got translations on the MSX even if they're lousy ports.
>>
>>3628001
are there any PC98 games with FAQs/translation guides?
>>
>>3628928
Probably a few but nothing compared to the amount of games.
>>
>>3628928
Very few
Most PC-98 translations are actually on windows ports of the games.
>>
>>3628928
Farland Story 1 to 6, Marble Cooking, The Highly Responsive to Prayers, The Screamer, Yugekitai Kakuto Hen - Saikyoushin Fukkatsu no Maki, Yugekitai: Saikyoushin Fukkatsu no Maki, Reserve, Reserve 1/2, Belloncho Body Inspection

That's a list of every PC-98 game that has received a translation. That's it.
>>
>>3625786
Romancing SaGa 2?
>>
>>3629331
>Farland Story 1 to 6
I never could beat ANY of those games!
>>
>>3629337
Fun thing about Farland Story is that apparently there's a Farland Story 7 that didn't get translated.
>>
>>3629298
And those Windows ports often have shittier graphics and sound or extra censorship.
>>
Mizzurna Falls Update

>As you can see, all phone call files are done. Seven files remain, five of which are more than halfway complete.
>>
>>3627646
You should start memorizing vocabulary. When people emigrate to other countries with a different language, they end up learning the grammar from context.
>>
>>3629298
There are couple FAQs but most of them are useless. LIke the stuff for RPGs just tells you "go here, go there, talk to these people (who cares what they say....)"
>>
>>3625813
>*an unlogical language
*an illogical language.

"This is bait"posting became a thing, and it's become the norm to "ironically" reply to shitposts rather than simply ignoring them, even though this enables them by giving them the attention they crave.
