My Super Famicom displays slightly off colours on my PAL CRT. How do I fix this without buying cables?
Does your tv have any display settings? Mine can set to NTSC or SECAM mode, as well as the default PAL.
>>3620558
It doesn't. Unless if there is a secret menu.
>>3620594
Try adjusting the colour manually, then.

why didn't they just make the controller wireless?
are they trying to nip everyone?

in before "b-b-but things that use electricity are technology!!!"
>>3620520
More like why didn't they make the cord longer?
what does /vr/ think of the "Sega Ages 2500" series of games for the ps2? They're essentially remakes of sega's classic arcade games with updated graphics, levels, and music and I thought id get /vr/'s take on them.
The later ones by M2 are amazing in their scope with various versions to pick from and lots of bonus material.
They early ones seem a lot like hit or miss.
>>3620494
Yeah, the M2 remakes are great. They did crazy shit like remaking Fantasy Zone 2 on real arcade hardware, I love their dedication.
>>3620494
Not sure if m2 made the virtua racing one or not, but it's like too smooth feeling or something. Even the 32x virtua racing is a lot better
Finally got around to doing something I've been thinking about doing for a while, setting up a place to post translations of official Darkstalkers texts, mostly developer interviews and backstory-related stuff. I currently have 3 Darkstalkers-related books and am planning on buying more in the future. At the moment I have one developer interview up, from Gamest's special issue on the first Darkstalkers game (which I don't think was technically part of their Mook series, but is basically one, it's all about Darkstalkers from cover to cover.) Next up will probably be a segment of character backstory factoids from the same book, which I'll probably get around to doing this weekend. Hope you enjoy, let me know your thoughts.

This is probably cool to someone. I'm just not your audience, sadly. Just wanted you to know someone read it and appreciated your love for it.
Are the original texts available anywhere?
>>3620261
I do happen to have scans of this particular interview done by a friend of mine a few years back, here they are.

Any corrections on my translations would be appreciated.
I did it. I beat Zelda playing for the first time ever, without a guide.
Is it worth doing the second quest? I almost feel burnt out from the experience.
>>3620096
how many times did you die?
I bet it was a lot. lmao. You died a lot.
>>3620096
The second quest is just the first quest rearranged, so if you beat the first one, you already got the experience. It's just for those who want the experience again without knowing where everything is at.
>>3620096
Congrats sir, I'm on 2nd quest myself after beating 1st quest last week. I say stick with it; it's a hell of a toboggan ride. And hard as fuck.
ITT Fighting games that had sequels but have since gone the way of the dinosaurs.
>>3620065
>>3620065
>>3620068
I suppose they aren't technically sequels though. There were 3 very different games by this same name that were all TMNT fighting games. My bad for being a bit unclear.
Just bought FF9 and turns out that it doesn't run properly. It plays up to the beginning of the first fight sequence then cuts to black but still has the music running. So I know it can still work but how do I fix psx discs without damaging it even more. Discs 2 to 4 seem alright.
Resurface it, stupid.
>>3619991
ain't buying that. Any cheap options?
>>3619994
Yeah, you resurface it.
>Save Hyrule

You know you have to be 18 to post here, right?
>>3619990
I know right, what kind of dumbass doesn't play these games 4:3. It's like, are you even trying to play it hows it intended to be played?
>>3619992
>what kind of dumbass doesn't play these games 4:3
You *do* know you can play 4:3 in fullscreen.. right anon..?
What are some challenges /vr/ puts on themselves when replaying through games they know like the back of their hand? I feel like the easy ability to make things tougher on oneself contributes to a lot of replayability with games. It's much harder to do that with newer games outside of changing difficulties.
I'm doing a no equipment (but not low level) run on Super Mario RPG right now and just have smithy left at level 20. What is usually considered one of the easiest RPGs in existence becomes a lot harder with no equipment, particularly in regards to status ailments. But for the most part it's fair, and really a perfect difficulty level, about a 6-7/10 in terms of challenge.
Except for bosses that use Aurora Flash and/or Petal blast, they can fuck themselves. Megasmilax and Countdown go from being cakewalks to nightmare bosses in no equip, and Exor becomes a pain in the ass too when you can't block status ailments with accessories.
And obviously culex (pic related) is an ever bigger asshole with no equipment.
Blogpost aside, what are some other fun self-imposed challenges /vr/ plays with? Any game any challenge
>>3619982
usually the 1st thing that ever comes to mind though haven't done myself is Zelda 1 swordless. Has anyone ever done the 2nd quest swordless?
>>3619982
I don't really like challenge runs honestly.
The last I really did was RE4 Pro Knife only and it was a terrible experience and genuinely unfun.
I tried to do the FF5 Four job Fiesta, and I got very bad classes. I got Monk, and then I got Red Mage. It just makes a really genuinely fun and well paced Final Fantasy into this horrible experience because you have a game that's absolutely designed around you having access to specific spells and abilities and restricting yourself breaks that down hard.
I don't consider them challenges, but I'll do stuff that's sub optimum because it's fun and different like not getting everything in Mega Man X, or just doing a "basic" playthrough of something like FF8 and not going completely balls to the wall with abuse of junction.
A challenge can be fun, but It hink over all they just aren't.
I wanna do a run on Final Fantasy VI without ever using magic from Espers, only summoning them at most.
Why can't we just name the board "pre-2000s video games" to clear all the confusion? Retro is a very vague term anyway.
No it isn't. Retro is everything before 6th gen. Hope this helped.
>>3619817
I think it's supposed to be vague, interpret retro the way you want (within reason)
You get caught in a street fight, and you have one FLASHY move from vidya to defend yourself. Which one do you choose?
For me it's picrelated
Starman from Super Mario.

Fucking duh.
What's the best all-purpose arcade cabinet? Will mostly be playing low-res games (neogeo, shooting game pcbs), but also some high res, like naomi
Egret 3? Blast city?
>>3619765
Astro City is my personal favourite. Just comes down to personal preference really
>>3619789
astro doesn't do high-res. Only medium and low.
What do you think of the blast city?
>>3619765
>high res
Are you writing like a retard because you think people here are retarded? If so, why ask here? Are you aware no cabinet is "high res", only the screen is?
On the off chance you're not a total fucktard a tri sync nano in an egret 2 would be ideal.
What's wrong with pirate cartridges?
I thought they were a good alternative for emulation
>>3619687
I have a few pirate multicarts. I don't have an inherit problem with them per se, but they are some real "Why haven't you bought a flash cart yet, anon-kun?"
Pic related. I used to go pirate multicarts and now just have an Ali N8 which does everything I need.
Anti-piracy protection?
I have some bootleg carts, some of them are actually good quality, I actually thought DBZ2 for Super famicom was original until I learned original japanese carts don't have the little ranures to fit on the american SNES. But it looks original with the sticker on the back AND a number stamp included.
They all work on my console so I don't really think there's any actual difference with the official ones in terms of performance.
I heard there are Game Gear to Master System conversions being made, supposedly this can be patched to the ROMs by yourself but do I need to change the extension or is it okay to leave it at .gg?
Do you want to make a repro, or just to play on an emulator? Most SMS emulators also emulate GG.
I think since it's being converted to master system the extension should be changed to .sms.
Although it doesn't really matter, the emulator will read the rom's header to determine which system to emulate instead of the extension.
>yfw you realise that Metroid is a ripoff of Nodes of Yesod
>>3619487
I've never heard of Metroid, is it as good as Nodes of Yesod?
You should know by now that most "groundbreaking" games like that didn't invent anything.
Devs in interviews will always claim it was their brilliant idea though, but in some cases it may the publisher which doesn't want the influence to get acknowledged.
However they do get credit for refining a formula, making it popular and influencial, and bringing new ingredients to it which then became a norm.
Some games which deserve credit do slip through the net though, even with today's interest in retro gaming, but that's mostly because "retro gamers" are all about console.
For instance nobody ever mentions Zombi for being the first real survival horror game, with actual survival horror gameplay mechanics; even now that it got a reboot that was a launch title on Wii-U.
That's because Zombi was a computer game. Instead youtubers will copy each others praising Sweet Home as the grandaddy of survival horror even though it barely even is one.
>>3619501
Maybe they never heard of the original?
