Military games for the snes/genesis?

What are the best, or if any straight forward mil type games in the vein of Turn and Burn and Desert/Jungle strike?

I dont mean goofy games like Metal Slug but games that are more centered in realism like the above.

SNES
Wings 2
Super Battletank
A.S.P
Carrier Aces
Air Calvary
Lock On

wings 2 is a fav of mine

I never played the first game but Super Battletank 2 is definitely a recommendation. Now that I think about it, I don't think there have been many tank simulator games on consoles in the past.

There's some awesome strategy games.

Magician for NES has songs that are fucking amazing and worth the challenge. Too bad it got released late in the NES years. It was a technical feat.

What are some good western developed stuff for consoles you don't usually hear about?

Sometimes you find rare and incredibly fun shit in consoles. Western retro stuff is usually for computers and finding the elusive fun stuff can be trying through a sea of licensed shit.

Neil Baldwin is fucking amazing. You might have a similar expierence with Asterix and Smurfs on the NES. And ofcourse Super Turrican on the NES made entirely by the master himself, Manfred Trenz.

Wiki does not even have an article on Baldwin. What are his other games?

I'm having some problems with DOSBox, can anyone help me out?

When I try to play Turrican 2, the options screen is mostly blank text boxes and when I start the game it's mostly glitchy bullshit.

Similarly, when I try to play Halloween Harry, if I press the "help" button to see the controls and go back to the game, the game's hud disappears and is replaced with a glitchy mess made from the help screen.

Anybody know what's causing this and how I can fix it?

just tried it and had the same thing. probably something with dosbox, since abandonia also mentioned about the missing text:
http://www.abandonia.com/en/games/26660/Turrican+II+-+The+Final+Fight.html

Just use that version and standard dosbox, works fine.

So you reckon the problem is that I just picked the two games that do shit like that? That's funny.

Whats /vr/ thoughts on these Pandora multi carts?

They look like a good solution for playing CPS1,2,3 and Neogeo stuff.
Price is like ~$100 CAD (and then some extra money for the jamma connector and PSU)

I'm more wondering what the emulation is like, is it good enough?
11 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>3621436
If you're going physical, a Neo geo flash cart just came out that is probably more worthwhile. If emulating, I wouldn't get either (despite preferring hardware myself). I've never tried to emulate it though to know how that goes.
>>
They're known for having sound and video issues because they're shitty emulators. Just use your computer.
>>
I've heard they are excellent with single slot cabinets otherwise you encounter what >>3621465 said.

Original NES I had and loved

it wouldn't be arguing, it'd be debating.

Both are fucking awesome, I think hard Corp is easier, but that made it more fun for me. bitching music i love the genesis
>>
>>3621356
Both good games. Hard Corps is only playable, or rather on par, once you apply the patch that combines the 3 hit bar with limited continue balance. Otherwise, it's shit and an unnecessary artificial difficulty set for the murricans.

Anyone else used to play this game?

I loved it as a kid but could never even get past the second boss. Very difficult game.

Apparently it's Hokuto no Ken in the original version, but the translators changed the names of the characters and named the game Last Battle instead, which explains why the dialogue makes absolutely no sense.

Jump kick is OP. I do agree it is a pretty bastard hard game (and also mediocre) but it had a lot of potential.

Just like Black Belt on the master system.
I had no idea why the enemies exploded but boy, I loved it.
>>
>>3621164
This is a game that would be better with some extra lives and continues. It's already hard as balls, and the fact that you have to complete it all in one flawless run is ludicrous.

>could never even get past the second boss.

Is that the fat guy with a floating ball thing? I think you have to power up first. I don't remember how, but I think if you kill enough people, Kenshiro rips his shirt and becomes stronger.

Most gameboy games are shit.

The Mega Man gameboys are no real exception, they suffer from a lot of problems due to poor screen size and hardware limitations.

It's not worth the playthrough, evne though V has some uniqueness to it.

Not worth the price tag though.
>>
>>3621017
>It's not worth the playthrough
Don't listen to this tard. It's the only GB one worth playing. The only real offense is they suffer from worse slowdown than the NES ones.
>>
>>3620995
IV is better, but V is still a lot of fun.

Should I play pic related on SNES version or gba with sound restoration patch?

GBA with the restoration patch, same for VI
>>
>>3620982
I'd say SNES just because the character portraits in the GBA version are based on the PS1 intro cutscene. In other words, they are abysmal and look nothing like the characters and it bugs the shit out of me.

>Faris
>clearly pink hair with ruffled pirate look
>portrait is a blonde haired princess

Let's try a "creative exercise" of sorts, /vr/.

Imagine if arcades had never declined. What would the games be like now? And if you want, what do you think the actual arcades themselves would be like currently?

Remember, we're assuming there had been NO decline of arcades whatsoever. So they're still at their 1980's peak and drawing billions of dollars per year.

>>
>>3620869

An arcade game is designed to be beaten in about an hour.

So we'd see a lot more shorter games.

I think we'd probably have more stuff like Silent Scope or Time Crisis. Stuff that's got an emphasis on the casual market. Motion controls, etc.

There would still be the Street Fighters, and games like Raiden, but I think the trends would've changed just like they did with modern games.

Theres only so many beat em up's you can get excited about.
>>
well, you'd have incredible graphics, i'm talking beyound current gaming pcs. also local multiplayer a lot. vr would probably be a thing, with setups like lasertag combined with the tracking technique of the htc vive.
if you are designing short games, 60min tops with the average probabyl very much below that, you'll still need tough difficulty levels.
also we would see gaming mechanics which would differ very much from what we have now available, maybe they would be comparable to mobile games like endless runners or something. on the other hand you need gamefeatures which are unique and only achieveable by arcademachines, that would probably mean unusual user interaction and a lot of different control devices.
>>
>>3620890
>VR
This. I imagine LAN VR games (like mech piloting games) would be pretty popular do to their immersion and graphics.

Does anyone know if slim DVD cases without the DVD holder part exist? Essentially I'm looking for a slim DVD size case so that I could store my collection of N64 manuals. Some of the thicker manuals won't let a standard slim DVD case close becuase of the actual DVD clip that holds the DVD.

Also sorry for saying DVD alot.

I actually don't collect the carts just the manuals, cheaper that way. I have an ever drive for the actual gaming part.

I always thought it would be neat to have all my manuals in slim cases on a shelf, complete with artwork on the outside line the pic you posted.

How can I wean myself from the belief Final Fantasy VIII is a good game just because it was the first FF game I played?
36 posts and 5 images submitted.
>>
>>3620804
Whether Final Fantasy VIII is a good game or not depends on how much you enjoyed it. If you like the game then there's no need to wean yourself off anything. If you don't like the game then just accept your opinion.

I had played all the Final Fantasies except 2 and 3 when 8 came out and I still think it's one of the better ones. (I don't think any of them are amazing)
>>
8 is not my first FF but I sitll think it's good, just so flawed up the butt they had to ruin Xenogears to salvage it. Personally, I think they tried to hard to make a successor to 7 but ended up failing because the concepts just weren't working out or laziness, like that time dimension bullshit and Ultimecia and everyone lived in the same orphanage. Wtf? Also the retarded junction system. Otherwise, close to being a great game.
>>
>>3620810
I will say it's increasingly hitting guilty pleasure territory for me the more FF games I play.
