How the FUCK could you forget Sam & Max and Discworld?
>>
Played gabriel knight remake recently. Fuck that game sucked, plot was straight up one of those shitty kiosk novels made by and for depressed housewives
>>

Sorry, your right! Discworld was awesome. That little jester that kept says "chuckie chuckie chuckie" made me die laughing. I've never tried sam and max. Im not trying to name drop or anything, just giving examples of games. Don't know or remember them all. Of all point and click games tho, which one in particular would you say is the best or worth my time first? Or can you give me an order of like 5 games or so

I just got Dex because it reminded me of Flashback which is my second favourite video game ever. I god damned love me some good cyberpunk so what are some of your favourite retro examples?

Just don't be a bunch of nitpicky autists arguing over the finer details on whether something is cyberpunk or not, if it's noir in a science fiction setting then that's close enough.

What is your favorite / what is the best retro Resident Evil game /vr/?

Is it Resident Evil?
Resident Evil 2?
Resident Evil 3?
Resident Evil Code Veronica?

Resident Evil 3 Nemesis is best Resident Evil game

I often think to myself you know, I'd be like meh whatever if I died soon

2 is the best.

But I like 1 and 3 as well. Code Veronica is not a good videogame.

How is this worse than any other Atari game? They're all shit. Is it a meme?
57 posts and 12 images submitted.
>>
Because most Atari games had a defined ruleset and a clear objective. Nobody knew what the fuck you were supposed to do in ET.

In any case, to answer your retarded question, it was mostly because millions of normies who never played a home console game before bought ET because it's ET and it were shocked when it wasn't the same quality as the arcade games they were used to.
>>
No, it's not a meme. E.T. is a legitimate contender for the worst video game ever made, and is solely responsible for the North American video game market crash in 1983.

Just look up the gameplay on YouTube.
>>
>>3633292

It's called a "manual".
Back then in the box there was a little book giving the story and explaining the objective and controls. I know, weird, right?

Mother 1 takes place in America, while Mother 2/EB takes place in various continents of the world, mainly Eagleland (which is evidently a representation of USA).
So, if Eagleland is America, what happened to Mother 1's America?

this >>3633090 is what i meant. i want to know what happened to Mother 1's America, if Eagleland exists, especially as giygas is in both games.

Got a Sega Genesis with six games for $32 and then proceeded to go batshit with some extra games. Not terribly bad though, since a ot of them were dirt cheap.

I got:

>Toki: Going Ape Spit for $6
>Vector Man 1 and 2 for $10
>Comix Zone for $15
>Sonic & Knuckles for $10
>Sonic The Hedgehog for $7
>Sonic 2 for $3
>Sonic 3 for $14
>Ristar for $33
>Dynamite Headdy for $19
>Decap Attack for $13

I'mma have me a pretty sweet Christmas, that is assuming they all actually work.

Is it true that Donkey Kong 64 killed the 3D platformer genre?

No, loads came after that.
Dont believe every meme youtube "celebs" tell you.
>>
>>3632482
Yes, it is true that after Donkey Kong 64 there was never a 3D platformer ever developed again ever.

No, wait, OP is just retarded.
>>
It might've gone too far with the collecting, but it didn't have an ET effect.

The big devs in 3D platformers just got kind of tired of the genre for a while was all, and they made different games using different tech.

I'm thinking of turning one of my older PCs into a retro emulator. Plan to have it hooked up to a CRT via S-Video connector.

I know that there are video cards with an s-video output connection, which is what I plan on hooking up to the CRT.

Now my concern is, will this setup work? Will the screen lag? Will the image be displayed true/correctly on the CRT? What is the last known "good" video card that has an S-Video output connection?
55 posts and 4 images submitted.
>>
Bump. Id like to know the answer to this too
>>
may get better results with an original xbox running coinops.
>>
That s-video connector is just a connector. It's the signal that matters. These cards output minimum 31Khz, and usually a higher minimum of 60Khz. If you can find a modern video card with s-video out that can output at 15Khz, then go for it. But unless you get a video card specifically made to output to consumer TVs or arcade monitors, it ain't gonna happen. If you want to go PC to CRT TV, then you really need to go RGB. Anything else would just require another converter/adapter.

Are there good SNES games that are not RPG?

I want to get into the SNES because it has a great library, but all i've been looking is RPG shit. I hate RPG's, never been into it, i tried to like it but i failed completely. Recently got a Wii and put the entire NES, Genesis and SNES library, and i'm soon to be on vacation and i want to get to know this system. Please recommend me great games that are not this shitty genre. Thank you.

So, whats the actual advantage of isometric view, particularly in platforming heavy games such as pic related? I fail to see what it does other than making jumping really awkward.

It looks interesting and you can show two sides of square structures instead of just 1. Just play the game for a little while, you'll get used to it and Landstalker rocks so it's well worth getting over the learning curve.

Hey /vr, I'm hoping you can help me.
I've been playing some old 90s/ early 2000 games recently and I've been searching for this one game that I cannot find whatsoever. Any help would be greatly apprenticed, Here is what I remember of the game itself;

>I thought it was called Asteroids, or maybe something similar (not the Asteroids that first comes to mind)

>You're a little circle golden space ship
>shoot some aliens and asteroids
>land on planets to upgrade parts
>It's a sandbox game and you fly around the universe
>I played it on PC approx 14/15/16 years ago
>Pretty sure there was a grey board and HUD that displayed your fuel, ammo etc

>Picture somewhat related, the graphics were similar to this but not the HUD

Hm.
Is there anything else you can remember about it?
Anything at all?
Even the most insignificant thing could help find it.
>upgrade parts
what kind of parts?
>little circle golden ship
is that only ship you can fly? Could you sketch it in paint?

Was there any goal to the game? Any story?
Every bit of info helps.

Only games that come to mind are Wazzal and Flatspace, but none of them really fit the description.

Im also looking for a game similar to OP.
Cant remember much of it, sadly.
All I know for certain, is that you piloted spaceship in top-down view. You shoot other spaceships. I vaguely remember being able to jump between sectors of some kind? Gameplay more or less sandbox. Ships really colorful, lots of reds, greens blues and yellows on those enemy ships in my memory.
The thing I remember most and that might help separate that game from dozens others like it is that ships were made from segments, and you could destroy those segments separately. Same was the case for your ship.
Even big ships could be reduced to tiny little core.
Played in on Windows circa 2000.
