What do you anons consider "retro" on a personal level, and not just going by the rules of the board, in terms of video games? No, this isn't another cancerous line-blurring thread.

Personally I always labeled anything before the NES as retro and unplayable.
>>
Retro is anything that I have some sort of particular positive memory of the past associated with, especially as representative of larger past trends. To put it simply, retro is about nostalgia but "false nostalgia" can even be about recognizing good things that have passed.

So, my Everdrive N8 came in today. I'm enjoying it quite a bit.

But I'm wondering what to do with my existing NES collection. I've managed to collect 60ish carts over the years. Some are worth decent money nowadays, most aren't. I'm not super attached to them, and since this thing can run pretty much everything, I don't really feel a need to keep them around.

I'm wondering, should I hold onto them or just cash in now? Are they going to keep increasing in value or will they plateau, or even become worthless like Atari games did?

And if now's the time to cash in, how do I sell a big box of games? I've been burned by Craigslist before and I don't really want to go that route. eBay seems like the obvious choice, but I've never sold anything on there, I've only used it to buy stuff. What's that like? How much of the money does eBay pocket?

Thanks in advance.

Pretty sure they will keep going up in value my friend, at least a bit. Plus, isn't it a nice novelty to have the real deal? If you wait, at worst you'll have a nice collection of memories, at best, a small fortune.

Ebay takes flat 10% iirc. It may be more depending on listing fees, and they take 10% off your shipping if you charge actual shipping which is robbery.

Always over estimate the size of your package to compensate for ebay ripping 10% of the shipping total from your paypal.

I keep seeing how the bubble is about to burst though, that's what makes me wonder if now's the time to cash in.

europoor famiclone owner reporting in, this was a pretty good game
codemasters' nes titles were very popular here

It's sidescroller type of game, you fight with various type of dinosaurs, bugs etc, each stage end with mini boss, you fight with your club and can collect power ups that let you throw rock with each swing up to 3, theres special shop avaible every few stages (somtimes even hidden here and there) that let you buy spells, power ups and even extra life for collected bones. The bones spawn on the map in the fixed locations and somtimes drop randomly from the enemies.

There are several diffrent islands to complete each have diffrent scenery however later on some of them are recolors of the previous ones.

Overall i would give it 7 or mayby 7,5/10

How the fuck do I even get the whistle when going swordless in Zelda? I'm talking about the stupid blue darknuts that you need to bomb. I can't get the bomb upgrade till I kill them so I'm left with 8 and run out whenever I try to kill them.

>>
Try going to level 6 and getting the wand. It works pretty well as a sword replacement.
>>
>>3633274
That's what my plan was but there are too many wizzrobes. There is enough for 8 bombs exact but that's the thing. I don't want to waste my time going back from the start to 6 having to retry over and over to get the perfect timing so I planned on getting more bombs instead to make it at least tolerable but now this happened.

If you're going to complain that it's too hard then just play the game normally instead of intentionally playing retarded.

Where were you when you realized how retardedly dumb X being the main button for games outside of asia is?

>O is synonymous with correct and/or ok
>X is synonymous with wrong/incorrect/no

Yet X is what the us and eu use as a way to ok things like menus or choices

>nes controller main button is A which is on the right
>snes controller main button is on the right
>ps controller circle button is on the right

>>
It was definitely a pointless decision. I wonder who it was who thought it was a useful thing to do. It's true that O and X don't have such sharply defined meaning outside Asia, but they also don't mean the opposite, either. It wouldn't have been any kind of problem to leave it as-is.

I've played various rpgs that do it one way or the other, and they were all USA or EURO versions.

>>3633203
It makes about as much sense as ABXY

You can interpret it however the fuck you want, but they're just symbols that signify button position.

I'd map my games control scheme to whatever I felt was best, not based on arbitrary symbols on the buttons.

How do you get really high scores in this game? It's seems kind of like it's varied for what this guy does on each level. Is there any kind of general strategy for doing really well on it?

I can't get that high but basically the key to the game is being able to use the bubbles to move around the map at will regardless of what is there.

Maxing your score is basically just doing the best plan on each level to combo the bad guys.

I want to beat this game without quicksaving after every fight.

I have heard that you can cancel the animations of earlier, weaker attacks when you make combo.
What button do I press to make this happen?

I need the extra speed.

Barbarian is the hardest character because his moves are slow. The extra reach of his 2hander fades in the late game when enemies 1handed weapons get longer.

Amazon is the easiest difficulty mode because she has the longest range and can dodge fast.

Knight vs Dwarf
Which is better and why?

Is there any mod that makes shields and weapons indestructible?
I never bother to block because my sheild breaks after 3 hits.

I beat the game with the knight
the elf sword combo was just godly

Do you enjoy retro/old stuff in other forms of entertainment too?

I not only love retro games but i also enjoy a lot of old music, old movies and old books too.

I can enjoy new stuff too of course, but i love old stuff and i have strong nostalgic feelings.

I'm not really a fan of partaking of the media, unless it's been ruined in transitions to modern media...which is sadly often the case.

But I'm a huge fan of understanding how the stuff works, and the development behind said ancient media.

Magnetic media is fucking FASCINATING, man.

You'll enjoy this a whole lot if you've never watched it. Every time I think of cassettes since seeing this episode I think of the home made one he makes hear him say in my head "this is recorded on sticky tape and rust!"

>>
Since I also still keep an old CRT to play videogames, I still prefer to watch some older stuff in DVD on it. Much like vidya, old video is also in SD definition, so the image gets inherently upscaled when you watch them on HD screens.
For modern stuff, which I also like, obviously I prefer full HD.

Ok so I've been playing Super Mario Bros on my phone using Nostalgia.NES.Lite (Android) and recently my Firefox stopped working so I uninstalled Firefox and deleted all the ROMs with it.

It didn't matter because I didn't save anything, but I re-downloaded the same ROM and the emulator says it can't be found. I've tried multiple times different things and nothing works.

Do you guys have any ideas?

+ its cool
- the screen is really bad, price
>>
It's a portable turbografx, that in itself is dope.
Negatives would be:
Price - pretty expensive unless u get a good deal
Screen/sound issues - will definitely need to have all caps replaced. And the LCD is dated. It was great when it came out but that was a while ago.

There are a ton of mods for the system but if you came across a mint one I wouldn't mod it. Just replace the caps and enjoy. There are so few of these out there that it's a shame when people hack them up.
But if U bought one that Was beat up/has some issues then mod the shit out of it.
