Which of the classic Mario or Sonic games do you prefer and why?
The real question is, Kirby vs. Ristar
>>3715185
Fuck off, Bubsy vs. Awsum Opossum is the real question.
>>3715205
nope. Plok vs. Rocket Knight Adventures is actually the real question.
System Shock thread.
>Have you actually beaten either of them?
>Will the remake/3 be insults to the originals?
>Do you prefer 1 or 2?
And other System Shock discussion, I guess.
>>3714906
Yes, both. More than once.
The remake of 1 looks good so far.
2. 1 was revolutionary at the time, but it feels constraining now.
>>3714906
>>Have you actually beaten either of them?
Aye, though my first *shock was actually Bioshock.
>>Will the remake/3 be insults to the originals?
3 might be alright, the remake was bloated, casualized shite.
>>Do you prefer 1 or 2?
First is better in every way (map layouts, hacking, music, enemy designs, aesthetics, SHODAN's writing, etc.). Also didn't have stupid RPG mechanics or annoying weapons degradation. Only problem with SS is that it doesn't have mouselook by default, luckily there is a mod.
Beat both of them
Remake has potential to crash because of how they're gonna keep true to the original and modernize it which'll be a challenge cause modern and classic don't mix that well. 3 we don't know much about it.
I preferred 1. Was disappointed with how much shorter 2 was, how they did shodan, and the story I didn't like nearly as much. Though the world seemed more varied which I really liked as apposed to more and more corridors in the first. And I don't get the hate with the interface. Go full screen to take away the waves, stance is just there, then you have health and energy, augments you don't even need to really way attention to, inventory will be on main the entire game pretty much, and mfd (corner panels) are just weapon and map/targeting.
This is pretty good.
>>3714479
I agree. Just played it for first time a couple months ago. Fourth quest is good too.
>>3714479
I was looking at the patches for this, is it pretty much Zelda 1 with a facelift?
BullShit Zelda: Third Quest is merely a ROM hack.
Sup /vr/
What is the best way to emulate PS1 games with authentic graphic? You know, something similar to what you can get from real console. Bonus points for nice CRT filter.

>What is the best way to emulate PS1 games with authentic graphic?

Just play it on a fucking PS1? It plays burned games, you retard. I will never understand people who focus on accuracy yet play games on LCD screens and emulate.
>>3714387
pSXfin emulator. Fast and easy to setup.
>>3714395
>Just play it on a fucking PS1?
Well that's definitely the best solution. But I simply don't have one. So emulation is my only option.
What is objectively the best Rareware game?
Blast Corps
Depends on what you mean by best really.
I think their most polished game is Banjo Kazooie. It's just an amazingly solid platformer from top to bottom with clever writing and great level design.
Their most technically impressive game is Conker for sure, it pushed the N64 hardware beyond what anyone thought it could do at the time and retains a decent framerate most of the time.
The most fun game is totally subjective, but in my opinion it's Jet Force Gemini, I never get tired of blasting giant insects in that game. It's got great enemy ai for the time, lots of fun weapons to use, brilliant music and massive worlds full of secrets to explore.
Their most influential game is definitely Goldeneye, the objective-focused fps laid the foundation for the modern single player campaign fps and the multiplayer cemented console gaming as a group activity.
Otherwise, the best is just whatever your favorite game from them is.

Just shy of a Raspberry Pi what is the best setup for an emulation station in my living room? Bonus points for easy or accurate input options (multiple usb slots or even original controller ports)
PC
>>3714024
Raspberry Pi 3 is ok, just not great. Somet tinkering and technical knowledge needed to squeeze out every last drop of performance.
Check RetroPie wiki for list of systems that can't be emulated, and list of highly accurate emulators that will have horrible performance on the Pi.
I suggest building a Mini ITX AMD APU PC if you can afford it.
Just buy a Wii and soft mod it
Hardware aside, is there really no difference between a flashcart and the real thing?
>>3714014
Unless there are special co-processors for a game, all a cart consisists of practically is an address bus and a data bus. If it can take incoming bits and return the expect data, it's indistinguishable from the real thing from a software perspective.
Generic carts are actually incredibly simple electronic components.
>>3714014
Flashcarts add quantum interference to any games stored within a 20 mile radius, Please utilize the lead box that came bundled with your cart.
It's essentially the same thing, yes.
However, be aware that in SNES's case there were a lot of games that had additional processors in the carts themselves:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Super_NES_enhancement_chips#List_of_Super_NES_games_that_use_enhancement_chips
The Super Everdrive won't be able to play any of these. The SD2SNES can play *some* of these, but I forget which.
>tfw all the games you love were made by people who were, at the time, younger than you are now
It feels weird knowing that, for example, Super Mario Bros was developed by a young 20-something Shiggy.
He was in his early 30s.
Doesn't really change much. Genius exists in many fields, I was making good money out of college so who gives a shit? I'm happy doing what I'm doing so what use is it trying to stack myself up to some other person?
Which has better audio quality?
Which has the better compositions made for it?
>>3713791
My old D110 (rack mount MT-32) was a soul crushing disappointment and such total trash that I am inclined to side with the Amiga Paula despite never having heard it.
Fuck, i'm sure I just watched LGR with him getting some of those MT-32's in the mail. Spooky.
>>3713791
The roland is definitely technically better, but most composers couldn't figure out how to get good at it. Amiga on the other hand has tons of talented people making songs.
On the other hand, when you do get a someone good on the roland, the results are amazing:

>>3713289
Is the actual game going to come out?
>>3713364
It already did years ago man.
The real question is: when's Turok EX coming out?
Wait, so it's just a source release for a remake?
They never release the source for console games!
Which I guess is understandable, often they're programmed in assembly anyway, so there's not all that much to release. And yet, take even something like Doom, ported to every platform, yet probably only the source for the linux version was released, WTF?
The value of a rare item will increase when the available item decreases.
What games have you purposefully destroyed?
I melted my copy of Earthbound because FUCK HIPSTERS.
I actively destroy US Saturn/Sega CD cases so that people are forced to sell the discs loose at a cheaper price.
I wish I was edgier, I'd break into collector's houses and trash their stuff.
What do you think about items/portals/spells that allow you to travel to any/visited parts of the world? Don't you think they are simply a hack for a bad designed game? It destroys the sense of an epic journey if you don't feel the harsh of the travel.
If you've ever taken a car, train, or bus anywhere instead of walking there yourself, you're a fucking hypocrite.
>>3713046
Anybody have a webm of that teleportation scene?
>>3713051
Yes, and i should start killing and stealing to live a coherent life.
what are some retro games that make me feel everything
>>3711905
Try Persona 2, and Suikoden I and II
Chrono Cross
>>3711927
This and Final Fantasy IX.
What are the most obscure retro Mario games you can think of.
Winner gets smug points.
>>3711684
Loved this
Hello, I never played this game when it came out and later because people said it was bad and a clusterfuck and the combat system broken,
And also I didn't like the edgy protagonist.
Now I'm deciding whether I should replay IX for the great music but then again I already know the story, or try FF XII.
Should I give VIII a chance instead? Or is it indeed shit
VIII isn't my favourite by any means but I would still say to play it just for the experience. The first part Of The game is fine and the opening cinematic is pure FMV gold.
>>3711160
TL;DR: VIII is amazing and fuck anyone who says otherwise
VIII is a masterpiece and none of the things you mentioned is true.
You need to be literally retarded to not understand the junction system that everyone complains about.
I naturally figured it out when I was 10 years old and played a german copy I got from an airport without speaking any german. That's how obvious it is, but somehow people managed to turn it into a "valid criticism".
The story is exciting and the setting is wonderful. The soundtrack is also one of the best.
Also squall is not such an edgy emo, just a dude who like many other dudes looks out for himself by shutting others out so as to not get hurt. If everyone was a happy-go-lucky guy it wouldn't be fun. Tidus works for his game and Squall works for his.
>>3711160
whatever.
