Does anyone else imaginewhen they play games that the entire world is watching and if you lose then aliens will destroy the world, so your gameplaying is a heroic fear in humanity?

>imaginewhen they play games that the entire world is watching and if you lose then aliens will destroy the world
>run immediately into the first pit I see
I sometimes imagine every form of media in the world turning into some sort of alien device that is somehow recording me and expecting me to say my first lines that will determine if they should exterminate/cultivate our world or not. Like imagine the new york time square and all those flashy billboards turn into a camera aiming at me randomly one day and an alien in a deep voice said "Ok, let us hear what the first human has to say to us aliens" and the first few lines I always say are "women are useless"
>>3714665
remember. aliens are from our future and they have no gender, their solution to the woman problem is by combining genders. also, women know they are worthless as well that is why they are trying to re defined genders
How much space is your retro ROM collection? What systems? Where did you get them? (Torrents, HTTP, kazaa?)
Finding anything other than Nintendo systems seems to be getting more and more difficult these days.
142 GB. Most from the Internet Archive.
FM Towns is the the largest part as that's the only CD based system where I downloaded a large set instead of single images.
>>3714590
Around 250 gigs, though MAME, PS1, and N64 account for most of the bulk.
>>3714590
1 gig or less I assume. Most of it is Neo Geo. I see no point in keeping games that I won't play anyway
Don't see many threads about this on here or I just don't lurk enough.
Looking at one of these on eBay for my retro PC.
Is it worth the coin? Any alternatives worth considering?
They pretty good, but beware not to spend more on one than you'd spend on an SC-55.
Spent 50 bucks for mine and has been hooked to my 486 PC ever since. If you're planning to use it with late 80s DOS games and don't have a real/100% compatible MPU-401 unit/card you'll need to find a tsr that will emulate the Intelligent mode of this MIDI interface (most so called MPU-401 compatible MIDI interfaces only support the UART mode). Personally, I use SoftMPU to allow game games like Silpheed, Zeliard and King Quest I to use the MT-32 through my SB16 MIDI port.
Anyway, some good MT-32 tunes:

Thanks heaps, good advice on here is a diamond dozen.
>>3714580
You can just pirate the ROM of MT-32 or any retro Roland device and emulate it... unless you're autist about muh accuracy.
I just use a soundfont that ripped samples from a real MT32, and load it up in BASSMIDI. It's pretty good, but some of the sound samples seem to be glitchy? Then again I was testing it on adventure games that didn't really support it.
Alright guys I've got a question. I'm trying to emulate Doom on my psp, however I'm running into the same annoying problem no matter what port I try.
Each damn port of Doom I've found doesn't let you configure the controls, and for some reason, people think playing Doom with an analogue stick that strafes forward and backward, but turns the camera left to right, is somehow playable.
Are there any PSP ports of doom with completely configureable controls, or AT THE VERY LEAST, uses the analogue stick to strafe, and the shoulder buttons to turn the camera?
>>3714524
You can try prboom via retroarch, you do need to add your own music which sucks but at least you can remap everything

This.
I play final doom and doom 2 on my vita using prdoom
>>3714524
Just download ps1
Doom and blah blah blah

Have any of you actually best this game without save States or shaders?
>>3714456
> or shaders
What did this he by mean?
I used to play this game as a 3 year old in 98. Could never even beat the first level. I think I got up to the pit boss a few times but thats it
I beat this game when I was a kid. You honestly just have to have the best gun (personally) throughout the whole game. If you lose it, it's pretty much game over; especially when you get to that tavern? boss fight.
Why doesn't this game have more save points? I just wasted two hours of my life. I think I'm ready to drop this game for a long time.
it's the easiest SNES FF and one of the easiest FFs in general
maybe games aren't your thing
how about you save in the overworld before a dungeon andgit gud
How retarded do you have to be to fucking fail at Final Fantasy? The punching bag of JRPGs?

I'm probably gonna get called underaged for this, but anyone think ROM corruptions are funny?
I kinda want to know how to do them myself. I know they're just exchanging bytes around/ replacing them, but how do I actually do that?
First you need a file corrupter, I use the VineCorrupt thing here https://docs.google.com/document/d/1C_OY6M_hXWd1yTlsjNkoXSXipaYBgGoErJwPrJgsb7o/edit
For settings avoid corrupting the first 5000 bytes for NES and 50000 for SNES, it makes them crash
A lower number for step size means more corrupted bytes, usually all you need to do is add 1 or 2 to each corrupted byte to get shit to happen
It really needs patience though, for all the funny stuff you see in a video it usually takes hours to get just 10min worth of funny/interesting stuff
>>3714331
I've seen this program before, and it's pretty neat, but does it work for 64 games?
>>3714338
It does but corrupting N64 games is harder, I stick 16bit era stuff
Making save states helps for getting past intros and level select stuff so always make a couple for the game you're corrupting, then name the save states to output.whatever
>n64 emulation
You do have a point. Considering all other cartridge based formats are emulated perfectly. Why is the N64 so difficult.
Even ps1 emulation is better.
https://youtu.be/ACniBgfYYU4
>>3714521
The N64 is pretty complex and poorly documented I believe. Isn't the Gamecube and Wii better emulated even?
>>3714171
What really bothers me is how bad the n64 itself looks on a modern television. To get it even passable you need the full hdmi mod with the deblur filter, and the console doesn't even support native rgb.
Found out there's some cheap as shit repros for Perfect Dark and Conker 64, so I thought it'd be prime time to expand my dong and get an expansion pak for my N64. I never owned one as a kid and now there's like a gorillion aftermarket ones now so I'm not sure if it's better to get the official one or if any of the aftermarkets are suitable. I used to hear about how expansion paks other than Nintendo's own cause problems or some shit, anybody able to confirm?
All I can tell you is that Nintendo's pak works without issue
>>3714154
Thanks for telling me that
My general rule of thumb with consoles and accessories is to go strictly first party, with rare exceptions for really awesome controllers/peripherals. I'd go with the Nintendo brand, that's what I have and it's always worked perfectly.
/vr/ Bingo time, do it, faggots.
Archeologist
So I'm doing a challenge run in Final Fantasy Tactis that involves Ramza, a ninja, and three generic monks. I need help figuring out what I want to do for the last two monks (assuming they max out natural job abilities like martial arts). Here's what I've got for Ramza Ninja and Monk 1's abilities
Ninja
>primary job ninja
>Secondary ability: Arts of War (renders)
>Reaction: Hamedo
>Equip Ability: Brawler or Equip Armor (maybe Equip Guns just for the luls)
>Movement Ability: Either Move +3 or Move +2 depending on how lazy I am
Monk
>primary job monk
>Secondary ability: Time Magic
>Reaction Ability either Counter or Hamedo
>Support ability: Attack Boost
>Movement not really relevant since I have teleport, maybe Move +2 or Manafont?
I need to finish the last two monks; I want to have Manashield+Manafont on one of them so as to break the game a bit further, but I'll take any recs that make the monks as ridiculous as possible.

Chakra is godlike on White Mage so maybe White Magic on one?

Calculator.
The odds of an epic final battle where your calculator wipes out everyone on the battlefield but one of your own people, who's near death.
That and it's the neatest job in the game. Actually makes you think a bit!
>>3714027
Equip Armor sucks, especially on Ninjas.
Clothing gear is infinitely better than armor. You can get Twist Headbands, Green beret's or the best item in the game, the Thief Hat is clothing. Armor only gives HP bonuses, and not enough more than clothing to justify the ability set.
Same thing goes with Monk. It's not better than a Ninja.
A ninja with brawling is better than a Monk with dual wield because of it's inherent higher movement and speed, and you can equip headgear which monk cant.
You can just use Punch Art on Ninja.
Honestly, Tactics is so easy taht you'd be better off just powering through since using "cool" setups is almost always less effective.
It's as good as mouse and keyboard right?
This game wasn't the same as the PC version, it's an exclusive Starcraft game made for the console, so it was made with the N64 controller in mind.
No idea if it's possible to play it with a mouse through some emulation shenanigans.
>>3713964
I'll take "What are control groups?" for $9000, Alex.
>>3713964
To give you a straight answer, it wasn't bad.
Functional, as I recall. Same with the C&C game for the N64. Had tonnes of fun with both.
Is it as good? Fuck no. Does it work? Absolutely.
Looking to buy either a Saturn or a Dreamcast. I own(ed) two dreamcasts til both shit out on me. I had a few games for it but not too much. However I've never owned a Saturn. Which one should I get?
I'm big on RPGs, but I know both consoles are pretty light on them. The main thing holding me back from the Saturn is that the vast majority of the games that anyone actually wants for it are expensive as all hell. Is there enough affordable games to make it worth while?
Too late.
Too late for a Saturn at least. The DC hasn't been memed out yet and is still affordable.
Okay /vr/ help me find the Sonic 2 strategy guide that my mom bought for me when I was a kid. The guide was for sonic 2, but it also had a short guide for Sonic CD. I remember looking through it and wondering what Sonic CD was like to play and realizing I'd never get a chance to try. I've looked for it a few times over the years but never found evedence that it even existed. Was I hallucinating or did I actually have that guide?
Also a general discussion of retro strategy guides.
Some additional details: I think the cover was yellow like the pic in OP and it may have come from blockbuster.
>>3713731
Sonic 3's guide is yellow and it seems more likely to have had a Sonic CD preview in it.
>>3713749
Damn. Thanks anon looks like you're probably right.
http://info.sonicretro.org/Sonic_the_Hedgehog_3:_Official_Super-Sonic_Tips_for_SegaManiacs!
I could have sworn it was a Sonic 2 guide.
I know it's a meme but I need to vent out how legitimately I fucking hate these fucking cunt shitheads.
They've got nothing on these little shits.
