What are some fun games that don't have any graphics?
Final fantasy 7
Title is misleading since you can have a command-line interface and still have graphics, e.g. King's Quest I.
I'm trying to get through Infocom's Starcross right now. Not sure I would say it's a good game so far... the limitations of the implementation back then worked better for lighthearted whimsical stuff like Zork than hard-ish science fiction. But I'm enjoying it.
I played a DOS game as a kid called Sir Guy Gallant. a text mystery.
Fun, but I wrote over the floppy as an idiot child and now I don't have it. It's hard to find, especially since the title is the name of a famous legend.
>tfw grew up in PAL region
I never knew how fucked I was until much later.
>tfw grew up in Burgerstan
>tfw missed out on the glorious '80s European computer gaming scene

>the glorious '80s European computer gaming scene
I'm European but I'm not that old.
What did I miss? From what I've seen, the computer scene is mostly demos, any actual good games you can recommend from that era?
It kind of sucks. It's jarring going back to my Mega Drive and playing Sonic at 50hz instead of 60.
I think I'll eventually invest in a Japanese Saturn and maybe a Japanese MD to get the NTSC experience.
Best way to play Saturn games? Is it still just burning discs?
How the hell do I make this work? The NTSC signal displays just fine through AV, but for some reason it flickers when using RF. Pic related is how it looks.
The sound plays just fine as well.
>>3713146
You know being in PAL land I don't understand why you would bother with RF especially since I am pretty sure that TV has a RGB compatible SCART port.
Just saying,
>>3713149
The developers didn't intend for RGB.
>RF
What's wrong with you?
ITT: Times when /vr/ lied to you
>No campaign mode so I just roll with Boss Attack mode
>Hey this roster is huge, I'm gonna choose the clown guy
>First two levels go by pretty well, liking it so far
>Third part is when shit hits the fan. Boss takes half your health in one hit meanwhile your chainsaw can't even oneshot the goons he throws out, even the rev up mode with the Chainsaw does fuck all on the actual boss compared to the at least half health he takes from you
>Unlike greatly designed games, this just feels like there was nothing you could do to prevent it rather than having to rethink your strategy, considering that it doesn't matter what range you're in, he'll still fuck you up
Shame on you /vr/. Hidden gem my ass, it wasn't even worth that CD-R.
>>3713248
>can't come up with a reason as to why my criticism of Spawn is false
Nice ad hominem.
>>3713374
Maybe you're just bad at games.
>>3713086
Brats like you have skyrocked it's price so people like my having hard times affording it.
Get lost kid.
What are some interesting /vr/-approved visual overhauls/hacks?
ones where it makes Blaze or Samus n00d
>>3713037
this lol
I like this one for Splatterhouse 2. It makes me feel better that I'll probably never have an actual SH2 cart because I'd rather play the romhack anyway, looks much better imo.
It is an age of war. The Wheel begins to turn...
Earlier today, I ripped ass so loudly it actually hurt.
"Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together" might actually be the most hilariously jumbled engrish title of any release. Even "Tactics Ogre" on its own is a hilarious mess.
>>3712992
What is the title trying to convey? Should have been called Ogre Tactics?
This Games was a dream for me, first case for interactive television with phone...
What do you think? Italy only have that game?

Alright, so I'm prefacing this with saying that this the first time I'm playing Mega Man II (or any Mega Man Classic game in general), so I'd like to know if this is a problem plaguing any other Classic games as well, aight? Thanks
I'm on Wily Stage 5 currently, and I have defeated all the Robot Masters for the second time. I'm out of E-tanks, and the only weapons I can use are the Metal Blade, Quick Boomerang, and Bubble Lead (as well as all 3 movement items). Now, I have full health and I cannot for the life of me get past the Wily robot ship. I get past the first form easily, but the second one's bubbles are just impossible to avoid. Seeing as I can't go back to previous levels a la Mario 3-onwards to grind, what am I to do? Am I fucked?
Because if so, this is just terrible game design. This isn't based on skill, it's just "you ran out of the measly four E-tanks we gave you, so fuck you, this game is now unbeatable."
Nah, brah. just git gud. I'm not even that good at video games and even I can beat MM2.
>>3712295
The bosses in the Wily Fortress don't have any invincibility frames
>>3712342
Solid advice there bro
Very motivational
Even if the game was otherwise shit, which retro game had the best story?
(It's obviously going to be Michael Jordan: Chaos in the Windy City)
bad dudes
>>3712202
Shaq Neil's Just Pass The Damn Ball
IHNMAIMS
Does anybody actually LIKE autoscrolling levels in platformers?
>>3712036
Those airship levels are great
For example
Pic unrelated?
Best games of Goldsrc engine, no Half-life, Counter Strike or TFC
This game sounds kind of cool and I may give it a try with my new VR setup but it's definitely not /vr/ retro.
>>3712216
tough call, I wouldn't be sure if they could be put in the same bag as rom hacks.
I can't be the only one here who gets a bit incensed when people say a game hasn't "aged well," right? I feel like people who say that are just indicating that they're not capable of grasping the mechanics or controls in old games.
Pic related because someone seriously tried to tell me that SMAC is "archaic"
>>3711813
They haven't experienced archaic until they try MoO 1.
>>3711813
The one that triggers me is Fallout 1&2. Those were about the only 2 cRPGs I played as a console kid, let alone completed, and I thought they were super easy to get into and enjoy. But for kids backtracking from the new "Fallout" games they're apparently unplayable.
"UGH THOSE DUMB HIPSTER FAGGOTS THAT GET TRIGGERED BY PEOPLE SAYING A GAME AGED" is something people here say but I agree the OP the majority of the time.
>>3712096
That said Fallout 1 and 2's battles were pretty bad even when the games came out; there are older RPGs with better mechanics in the areas where FO1 and FO2 failed. They're not even really "hard" as much as just a chore. And exploring the wasteland being just a dot on a map with random battles felt boring as hell.
New Vegas is the best of both worlds, the better choose-your-own-adventure elements of the first 2 and the not particularly good but still far better shootan & exploring mechanics of the third.
New subs when?
>>3711764
not soon enough
Never. Subbers died or don't care any more.
>>3711958
at the very least, the episodes on the gamingcx website need to be fixed, some are broke and some are fucked up with half speeds and such
also, i heard there was a sub group working on new subs but that was 2 months ago
Has anyone else seen anything happen in a game that wasn't supposed to happen, then never seen it again?
For example, the first time I saw the secret ending in Banjo-Kazooie, when Mumbo shows you the secret inside Shark Food Island, and Banjo has to double-jump all the way up to the top of the pillar, he actually missed a jump and fell to the bottom and just ran and jumped around for the remainder of the scene. The dialogue was the same, so I was confused when they talk about the secret egg. The other scenes played normally and I watched the ending multiple times afterward and never saw the same thing happen.
>>3711760
Yeah, in game scripting can glitch independently of the cutscene.
>>3711760
I think I've seen that happen. I don't remember if it was on the n64 or while using a gameshark or on an emulator.
>>3711760
In one of the stages of Vigilante 8, I was driving up a hill as Sid Burn and my car spazzed out and was launched literally a thousand feet in the air.
Let's have a thread about the greatest PC racer of all time.
>8 cars
>24 tracks
>16-player LAN MP (works over Dosbox!) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jmv2PCc8ppQ
>dynamic AI and teammate command system make every race different
>Kickin' rad dual format soundtrack by Neil Biggin (Top Gear 2, Loaded, Zool CD32, Newman-Haas IndyCar)
>Beautiful '90s menu aesthetics and early texture mapping
>Hilarious physics and detailed, nuanced car handling that's easy to pick up but takes skill to survive.
>tons of game-effect cheats and several bonus cars with special abilities
>programmed in 8 months by a small, dedicated team and finished in October, 1995.
any /vr/tuaroids still play this magnificent game?
