I'm more of a HERETIC sorry
why are people obsessed with building devices to play the same old two dozen SNES roms they have already played for years?
because they're normies
I wonder if people so much as play SMW for more than 10 minutes on it, let alone waste time building it.
What old school / retro pc games or emulators can I run on this pc? (I plaan on putting a 250gb hdd in it and this AGP card: VisionTek Radeon VT 3450 AGP 512MB)
>>3725002
I'd recomend you getting nvidia card, they are more compatible with DOS stuff, geforce 6600 would be great to make this a late DOS/win98/xp machine
try getting a soundblaster live!, this will give you sound in later DOS titles and EAX sound extensions in windows games
>>3725025
Can't get a soundcard, this pc only has 1 agp slot.
>>3725002
A Pentium 4 with 3 gigs of memory should be able to emulate any retros unless you're autist about accuracy or use like 12 filters at once at HD resolution.
A discrete videocard would help with filters or 3D rendering of some games, but for vanilla 2Ds and sprites it's overkill.
I just finished this, a few minutes ago. I did Rhys -> Ayn -> Sean. I'm considering doing the other routes pretty soon.
Overall I enjoyed it. I did PSI and II about four or five months ago. I think I like I > II > III. III was pretty enjoyable overall, but the crazy amount of back tracking combined with obtuse explanations of what to do next, and how crazy late you get the Wren upgrades makes it pretty exhausting. Like I said, I want to do the other paths, but the idea that I've gotta redo so much walking is a killer.
What do you guys think of it? I know it's most people's least favorite classic PS game, but I did enjoy it overall. Are any marriage options particularly interesting? Also, fuckinglast boss in a treasure chest?
>>3724882
On the Rhys -> Niall timeline you get the flying Wren parts during the 2nd generation.
Makes everything much easier, and avoids all of the overland walking that you mentioned.
>>3724882
You played through all of PSII? I'm trying to run the series, myself, but PSII is kicking me hard in the balls. Now THAT game is tedious.
>>3724882
I love PS3 as much as any of the other Phantasy Star games, despite its faults. When you started playing it, did you already knowthe "world" was a spaceshipand thatthe spaceship was launched from Palmaor did you find out / figure it out as you went along?
Yep, this was out on windows 95. I played thousands and thousands of countless hours of this game online when it was in its infancy. Me and buddies would stay up all night taking turns playing online and it was actually super fast for being dial up. This layout was so simple and pure. I jizz just thinking about the lady saying "welcome to Westwood"
Fuck GDI
>>3724880
>Me and buddies would stay up all night taking turns playing online and it was actually super fast for being dial up.
Back then in Germany you had to pay by the minute for dialup and I remember it being expensive as fuck.
One of these nights would've probably cost me a full month's allowance or probably even more.

Do you know about this?

Muh nigga.
Command and conquer and
Warcraft 2 .
Those games were my jam.
Used to play hours with my uncles and my dad.

That was the hidden dinosaur map, right?
My mind was fucking blown when I discovered that.
Just passing on some retro love. A kind anon on /wsr/ helped me get some images made just right. Wanted to share the love. Hope some fellow GamePro lovers can put these to use!
Did you manage to snag an ultra hdmi? Do you already own one? Do you not care about it?
too many people on this board have sunken costs fallacy towards the RGB mod
>>3724841
I saw the RGB mod for the 64 and thought it still looked like complete shit. But once I saw the U HDMI I was convinced
just go to goodwill and pick up a cheap crt. i don't care if you don't have room or if it is too heavy, even the most mediocre of crt televisions will give you a better, more authentic retro experience than some expensive ass hdmi mod.
Am I the only one who loves bosses that are over and done with in a flash?
Like, the boss should just pop in for a few moments, and you either kill it in time and get the points, or you're too slow and you miss out on them. I think that's better than having damage sponge bosses.
Any other games with quick bosses? Strider is a classic one.
Salamander is kinda this way from what I recall. If you go in with a few powerups, most bosses seemed to drop pretty quickly.
>>3724839
Yume Penguin Monogatari's bosses were pretty easy.
I don't. To me, boss encounters should be special. I like bosses which actually challenge you, feel like they're stronger than your usual enemy.
I like bosses which are hard but ultimately fair. The best feel is when the boss has the same health as you, but simply fights smarter with hard to avoid attacks. It's OK if their attacks can be stronger, as long as they have patterns and weaknesses. Picrelated
I'm looking for retro sport games that allow some modifications to either input squads of modern teams, or to create fictional ones. It can be either achieved by built-in game editors (like in case of Sensible Soccer games) or by outside, fan-made tools (like ROM hacking utilities for Tecmo Bowl). Type of sport does not really matter. Can /vr/ recommend some titles?
The one who has gotten the most mods is ISSD for the SNES. Brazilians love to make mods of this game.

I've seen some minor modding in ISS64
anybody else getting their booty plundered by a hard game right now?
Ninja Gaiden was pretty easy until this bullshit, going back to 6-1 when you lose to the boss is such a dick move (please excuse the ugly screenshot).
I started playing Shining Force CD knowing nothing about the game and I am getting my ass kicked hard. At least you keep your experience and levels when you die.
Once your character dies the match is over, and all it takes is 2 enemies coming at you to end the match.
Stuck on second match where you crash on an island with no weapons or gear and like 15 enemies to kill. There was something like three difficulties higher than normal as well.
Ninja Gaiden isn't very hard as long as you know what is coming and memorize. I can beat it with the sword only on the last boss and his forms.
>>3724521
Ninja Gaiden it hard but nothing compared to Holy Diver
Has anyone started an NES or SNES collection in the past two years? How do you convince yourself that the prices are okay?
by not being a poorfag
>>3724492
I make $230000 per year. I can afford $150 for a game
That voice in the back of your head telling you that it's a bad idea to buy them is your adult brain trying to peek through your dominant bubble head baby brain. Listen to it.
So I just found out my dads friend used to be in a Quake team and he told me his team was called Team HIV or hot internet virgins...
>no its not porn
http://www.hotinternetvirgins.com/
made me kek pretty hard
>>3724352
> so retro was real after all...
> somehow part of it actively remains on the internet
that's a fantastic team name
>>3724352
I used to play Q2 a lot.
Our clan was called ]KgB[ - Kleine geile Biester (little horny beasts).
I still have the P2 400 I used on lanparties that has a fat ]KgB[ logo and a link to our now defunct website on the front.
What made this game such a masterpiece?
>>3724346
Variety
>>3724346
The slowdown.
You
hola retro game fans should I get this for my wife's son for his birthday?
>>3724327
Better not. His dad owns that cool electronics store doesn't he?
>$80
Even a model 101 GBA SP costs less.
>>3724327
are you my mom's husband? holy shit please buy this for me!!
After emulating a bunch on the Wii and Raspberry Pi, I plugged in my actual NES and SNES consoles. Damn. There is no fucking input lag on them. The lag might be small on the Pi and Wii but when you play something like Mario it feels so much tighter on the original hardware.
Don't know if I can go back to emulation, honestly.
>>3724260
You have seen the rabbit hole.
How deep are you going to go?
>Been playing on Wii and CRT lately
>Thought that was as good as it gets
Shit OP. SHIT OP. Now it'll never be the same
>>3724281
I literally switched back and forth between the Wii and NES on my CRT. The Wii is sooooo close but the NES feels absolutely instantaneous.
