Hello /vr/, can you please recommend me DOS-WIN98 rpgs? Just found a old computer with WIN98SE on it
What I already have:
Exile 1,2,3
Daggerfall
Fallout 1 and 2
Baldur's Gate 1-TOB
>>3722352
>>3722352
Found an old computer? Dude, use Virtualbox on ANY current PC, create a VM and install 98SE to it. There's
no reason to even mess with that old piece of junk.
>>3722440
You can keep saying this but it doesn't make it true.
Thinking about getting a portable Snes or Genesis clone. Are any of these good or at least pretty acceptable? I just want to lie in bed and play Atomic Runner or something like that.
Nomad
>>3722296
You could always get a Nomad for a portable Genesis.
>>3722296
There's the Supa Boy (unofficial) and the Sega Nomad (official)
There's also the PC Engine GT
All these handhelds are very bulky and drain batteries like a monster
The Nomad is also really heavy
Honestly, just buy a handheld that can play old games, like a PSP
Either Toadstool is misspelled with an undercase first letter or it's pronounced Toad's Tool.
>>3722259
What are you babbling about
>>3722263
Check the two t's in the name, they're the same undercase letter.
She's chained in bowser's sex dungeon. You can't expect perfect punctuation from her under such duress.

woah...
damn...
Is this bad level design? How are you supposed to get into these tunnels?
>>3722126
I love it when people who can't figure something out immediately blame it on bad level/game design.
What games do you want to play before you die?
Some of my picks:
OoT and Majora's Mask
Simpsons arcade game
Ghostbusters (genesis)
It dawned on my recently there's not enough time in life to play everything. This has been a sobering thought and I've been trying to play and beat some games I've always wanted to, before I die.
Forget games. I'd be getting as much pussy as I could in that year.
>>3722225
So none then?
>>3722225
Well that wasn't the question plus I'm married so I get as much pussy as I want
Why was Wonder Boy completely forgotten?
But OP, he's getting 3 games this year.
>Wonder Boy Remake
>Dragon's Trap Remake
>Monster World V
>>3722008
Because it's a Sega game that isn't Sonic or Yakuza.
>>3722015
>Monster World V
>game that picks up directly after MWIV, like how MWII picked up after MWI
>keeps taking the gameplay depth and world feel forward
>explains what happened to Shion after he disappeared
>music by Shinichi Sakamoto, art directed by Maki ÅŒzora
Never ever
There will never be a Monster World V
Games with this type of esthetics...
>>3721920
Weeaboo aesthetics?
Doctor Slump Playstation game, based on the 90's remake.
I just can't understand why the fuck they changed Arale design. The new is good, but classic Arale design was iconic.
Will/do you let your kids play games as much as you did growing up?
>>3721917
No il ban everything except arcade games and limit him to 1 credit remove the continue function in the games setting.
>>3721919
Your doing God's work anon. Your child will become president someday. It's harsh but necessary.
>>3721917
I lead a pretty balanced gaming life and i read just as much as i played games.
So, probably, as long as they keep up their reading and schoolwork.
Games you should love, or NOT?
>>3721916
I borrowed that from a friend once. Didn't care for it. Couldn't get past level 3 even.

Here's a request for RPG experts. I want to find if there are /vr/ games with a specific mechanic, and possibly where it originated from.
So I'm speaking of the following game mechanic: the more you use a certain ability, the more your proficiency with it grows. E.g., when you attack with swords, your sword skill goes up, and you deal more damage or unlock new abilities; or say, if you use fire magic, your spells become more powerful or you learn new ones, etc. To clarify just in case, it's not like in many other games where you get X skill points and you're free to spend them however you want; but specifically, the only way to increase a certain parameter is to use it (in some way).
Now in the non-/vr/ game I found an example of it (Contact for Nintendo DS), this was taken even further. E.g., when you blocked attacks, your stamina increased. Even if you just ran around, your running speed eventually increased. It'd be good if I found something exactly like it. But even if it's anything similar, I'd be grateful for it.
P.S.: I have read there's something distantly similar to this in SaGa games. Is it true?
Not where it originated, I'm sure there are other games that also did it in one way or another, but Hybrid Heaven uses a pretty complex level-up system in which each of your 4 limbs, your torso and your head can get upgrades depending on if you use them, or if you receive damage. As you progress, you earn new skills depending on how you play.
>>3721889
Interesting! Didn't know much about this game, but I'll make a note about it, thanks.
Dungeon Master had a skill-based progression system way back in 1987. Dunno if it was the first one though.
The Wii is an easy to setup compact emulation box that outputs 240p to your CRT.
The Xbox 360 allows access to a treasure trove of shmups and other late 90s/early 2000s Japanese games with Xbox Live Arcade.
Does the PS3 have any value for retrogaming outside of playing PS1 games in 480i?
>>3721808
you can emulate a bunch of shit on ps3 nigga
If PS2 games counted as retro I would say yes.
Other than that it is decent for PS1 games and emulation.
Not sure if I would go out of my way to use this over a Raspberry Pi though.
>>3721808
Your PS1 games will work in the PS3. Also lots of great classic games on PSN, some of which like Harmful Park which goes for hundreds are just $5 digitally.
Never played a sega saturn game in my life. Suggestions Go!
>dubs get priority
I suggest you don't.
>>3721681
You can't get dubs on /vr/.
But, Clockwork Knight 2.
burning rangers
How do I git gud at this? I've been playing it since it originally came out like 15 years ago. I mostly win when playing with my friends, but on the internet I suck even at noob games.
I'm playing the campaign now which I never did back in the day, and the third mission of the Joan of Arc campaign is taking me literally hours. I'm not losing or anything, it just takes me fucking ages. And I'm not even playing on hard. Am I doing it wrong?
>>3721601
In AOE2 theres 2 big strategies. The first one is the one most people use: gather resources, upgrade everything and attack. And thats ok for maps where you can map a little and block your enemies, like Black Forest.
What you are supposed to do is spam villagers and make a small army as soon as possible. And keep gathering while you kill/harass enemy vills.
And the other tips could be:
-In earlier stages use boars, bushes, deers and fish as food income when they are close to your TC. Farms are good only when theres no other option in Dark/Feudal age
-Your Town Center must be ALWAYS working. As soon you hit castle, make at least 2-3 Town centers more. In 200 pop maps, at least half of your pop must be villagers
-When chopping wood always build at least one lumber camp for each 6-8 vills. For farms, never let your vills walk more than 2 farms away from a mill.
-Keep ALWAYS a small army and enough buildings in case you are attacked, and keep ALWAYS harassing enemy vills or killing them.
And you will be ready to win online when you are capable to win all the maps from AOE2 campaigns by conquest.
>>3721601
Rush until castle age and don't waste time upgrading anything. Get a bunch of cavaleirs and fuck enemy shit up. Get some bowman and go attack enemy villagers while they're gathering resources. You don't have to kill them, just stall them.
I prefer AoE Rise of Rome myself because AoE II takes too long for a single match
>>3721648
Thanks for this, I mostly get the basics of what you explain. But in this mission I'm doing now it's just a 75 pop and only castle age, so that's what's making it so hard for me. Bringing down fortified walls just with mangonels while sustaining barrage from a castle is just nightmare, and I can't get an xboxhueg army because of 75 pop and I have like 30-40 villagers getting resources because I've depleted gold and selling wood and food at 14 to each 100.
I miss Pilotwings 64. Was it actually pretty or am I just nostalgic?
It was cute. And I love the character design.
>>3721517
Just as Pilotwings on the SNES shows off Mode 7 capability, Pilotwings 64 prominently demonstrates the graphical features of its own console. of course its pretty
>>3721549
Personally I find Pilotwings 64 very pretty (and otherwise brilliant) but Pilotwings on the SNES did nothing for me, especially graphically.
