Was about to post this.
Where did the Mega Man 5 is super duper rare meme come from? why is every copy of this fucking common and unimpressive game now $125 dolleroos?
>>2787561
I have no idea. I got my Famicom version (Rockman > Megaman tbqh) of the game for no more than $10 anyhow.
>>2787582
in general, I'm guessing it might not be a bad Idea to get a converter, and just start getting some famicom versions of some of these games.
I am a big time mega man fan though, soo I must have this game physically at some point.
I will wait though. In the mean time, I suppose I could collect the famicom versions!
>>2787561
do you know what a meme is?
What are some old-school games similar to pic related?
Looking for:
>going into dangerous areas and hunting/killing something to advance
>scary/creepy creature and environment designs
>platforming elements, maybe some action as well
>preferably sci-fi themed, but I'll take fantasy as well
This game is Konami's first "metroidvania", before Symphony of the Night, give it a try.
How about Air Fortress for NES?
I imagine Baraduke is similar but probably less exploration-oriented.
Castlevania kinda fits that. Not exactly. It's great anyway.
RPGs peaked in the 4th and 5th generation.

3rd and 4th gen for me.
I didn't care too much for 5th gen ones, too many FMV cutscenes and loading times, in a genre like this, loading times and slow animations were a deal-breaker for me.
PD Saga is still stellar though.
>>2787032
This. 5th gen was shit. 4th was the peak.
So I bought a Silent Scope arcade cabinet and I need to replace the timekeeper ram chip, the only problem is that I don't know where to find one programmed. If someone can post a reliable website where I can buy a programmed ram chip that would be awesome
Hope you can find one and get it up and running. I've dumped many quarters into that game.
rad as fuck anon

Maybe try a big arcade site, like KLOV (do they have forums?) or BYOAC? I know the latter has tons of people with specialist knowledge on different arcade stuff, so I'd try there if nothing else.
Who's the better composer?
I vastly prefer Sugiyama works, but Uematsu is good too.
Are you the same guy who made the Sonic music thread?
Both of them are good composers, but I think Sugiyama has a more impressive trajectory not only in video game music.
>>2786854
Is this even a question? Uematsu composed some of the most well known and respected music in the entire industry. It's likely he'll be in history books alongside other modern day great composers. He's to video games what ennio moricone is to movies.
Why is this game still being played, and not its 16-bit counterparts? Is it just nostalgia, or does it do anything better than them?
I'm not sure. You'd think hacking the 16-bit ROMs for updated rosters is easier because they don't use the NES's horribly-snarled bank switching.
>>2786742
PS1 Super Bowl is basically the same game with a few more plays and criminally long save/load times. I like it because I can play it on the go but the NES version definitely has its charm.
>>2786742
It's just more fun.

Quality thread, shithead.
>>2786607
Oh shit. When did they start to do 64DD to cart ports? Does this work in emulators or only on the Everdrive64?
Shame Sim City 64 isn't on there. I've always wanted to play it.

>Quality thread, shithead.
What's your problem, anon? He posted some 64DD cartridge conversions that work with PJ64.
Okay /vr/ ... Think back to when you were a kid.
Was there any game you saw n a magazine (preview, review, ads, whatevs), and you got super interested in it and wanted to play it really bad, but for whatever reason you never got to play it as a kid ?
What game was it ?
Did you finally get to play it as an adult?
Did it meet your expectations, or were you disappointed ?
Come /vr/ share your stories ...
I think I got the most stupid story.
I wanted Pokemon Gold/Silver and never got it, because I thought it wouldn't play on my Game Boy...Color. I mostly owned DMG games for my GBC, so I thought the "Color" in the name was some sort of joke and then my friend got the GBA along with Silver and so I assumed G/S are GBA titles. Never questioned that assumption.
Later I got a GBASP with Ruby and I think it was better this way. The leap in graphics and pokedex volume was amazing to me. Made of the disappointments were spared from me since I never played the second gen.

I mentioned this in another thread so it's on my mind. Not as a kid, but I used to pour over Newtype magazines from Japan and one of the games that really caught my eye was a JRPG with amazing art. I wanted to play it so very badly but they weren't translating it.
I never got anywhere near finishing it and probably never will.
Black & White. According to the reviews it was the best game ever.
I played it years later.
It was terrible.
Give me your best console boot up screens. I always loved the Japanese Saturn one:

some 3d worldrunner type shit
Can we discuss Valkyrie Profile here and why it's one of the greatest games ever made?
>Dark, melancholic atmosphere that's presented perfectly
>Some of he most beautiful 2D artwork of any game ever made
>Gorgeous music
>Interesting plot and storyline, well designed characters
>One of few JRPGs with non-linear, open gameplay and challenging mechanics
>Made just before Enix was sold out to Square and turned to shit.
>>2785931
I tried it once, but there was about an hour of cutscenes before the game started. By the time I got control I was already bored and stopped playing.
>>2785931
Great game. I'd still love to get my hands on a physical copy one of these days.
Anyone know if there is a community for scanning old strategy guides?
There were some nice bits of fluff in some of those guides.
I recall seeing the pic on the left alongside a description of all the power-ups in the game in relation to the part of the suit, and I was dismayed to not find my old copy of it :(
All of them are already scanned. Check UndergroundGamer.

This game rules. I've been trying to no death/default weapon/Fang/good ending run it. Virtual zone boss and final missile boss are problem areas though.

I write the title on the top with a sharpie. And yes, I am mostly saying this because of how autistic some of you fags will get over it.
I really do that though, lol...
>>2785024
Sharpie can be removed if necessary. Nothing to get autistic about.
