ITT: Obscure JRPGs
I like Ragnacenty more than I like ALttP to be honest. Horribly underrated.
Also - Golden Axe Warrior and Golvellius.

But Soleil is neither obscure nor a jrpg
Are the Dreamcast versions of Resident Evil 2, 3, and Code Veronica the best? I hear they display health status and ammo count on the VMU, which sounds awesome. Also, Resident Evil thread I guess.
this might help, I don't have anything on re1 and 3 though.
I would say the Dreamcast versions are pretty great. As you can see the N64 version has it's unique items, but I think the Dreamcast's Nightmare mode is better than the item randomizer, and that the Ex Files, while neat, are something you can just read online.
The other qualities are things you need to decide yourself, but the choice is probably between the Dreamcast and N64 versions.
Also, don't be afraid to play a few different versions. After you get any good at them you can really speed through them. In RE without even trying that hard I was getting under one hour runs.
>>2783163
eh. maybe. but I wouldn't say that it's too such a huge extent that calling them the best is even really justified

while I do have lots of nostalgia for ALttP, objectively it isn't very good.

Grab some hot cocoa, warm milk, a beer, some whiskey, whatever lights a gentle campfire in your heart, and get comfy
Just got home from a full day of work and school, started up some Super Metroid (lost as fuck in Maridia), comfy levels rising. Flashcarts are great.
What are you guys playing?
What are your go-to comfy games?
What have you been having trouble with? Other than being lost in Maridia, I'm also having issues with the Secret of Mana combat system (read: I suck at it) and ghosting through the Gambler's Room on Thieves Guild in Thief Gold is just about fucking impossible.
>>2777760
I stick exclusive to handhelds for my retro comfy, I just can't get comfy around my CRT
>>2777779
That's alright anon, to each his own. What are your favorite handheld comfy games?
I find adventure games really comfy to play at my lonely and boring night shift. So far I've just played KQ4, Loom and Monkey Island (halfway through it), but I'm having a great time, and I never got to enjoy these games as a kid, so it feels pretty great overall. Wonder if I'll be able to enjoy "talkie" ones like KQ5 or Day of the Tentacle, since I have to play them at low volume.
Best Daggerfall download out there now (includes a ton of patches and updates)

The magic system in this game isn't anywhere near as good as in later games in the series.

SO YOU WANT TO PLAY SOME PINBALL FAGGOT?
First you gotta have some things to play it with.
If you want some real deal pinball, https://pinside.com/pinball/map/where-to-play
If you can't go to any of those for any reason, there's pinball simulators.
http://pinballarcade.com/ is a widely popular one that simulates a bunch of classic tables but you either have to pay out the nose for DLC or torrent the damn thing.
http://vpuniverse.com/index.php/index.html is another one, requires a bit of fucking around but once you get it running you get all the free pinball you could ever want
Now there's some extra doohickeys if you need something extra.

Also, our, one of our brotier anons is converting VP9 tables to the godly PM5:

Let's hope we can keep this going. The last thread lasted a long time. My league scores sucked balls tonight, but at least I got to shoot the shit with the old pros for hours on end. Also got that awesome glitch/possible easter egg on NES pinball where if you score high enough, the flippers turn invisible. Such a weird game.
What are the hardware system requirements to run PhysMod5 tables with Visual Pinball?
>>2711529
Not much really, I used to be able to run it on my laptop, but I haven't tried it again. It's more than VP9 was, but that really wasn't terrible. Give it a whirl and see for yourself.
Is there a site somewhere that helps people find other retro game enthusiasts, or retro electronics clubs, or something of that nature? It would be cool to meet like-minded people and play or learn cool stuff, especially how to repair stuff.
/soc/
Look up conventions in your area. There's a retro convention near me called the Midwest Gaming Classic, it's a really chill event where people bring a shitload of arcade machines and play them and talk about retro games. Look what up what's your area.
The Seattle retro gaming expo was all hipsters, industry types looking to network, and wannabe youtube celebs passing out business cards. The only good thing was the vendors.
I recently got to play a virtual boy for the first time, so I decided to look a little more into how it worked since all I knew was "spinning mirrors" and was shocked to learn it only has a 1x224 LED array in each eye. So am I understanding this correctly, the LEDs just refreshed so fast that the mirror effectively acted as a buffer while it was rotating, reflecting the image into your eye one row of pixels at a time, 50 times a second?
I dunno, but the little things broke on mine, the right eye at least. It gets weird graphical glitches often and I don't know what to do. Already tried the oven fix a few times now.

Oven fix?

Nevermind, looked into it. Man the vb is a weird system
Thinking about buying the neo geo x gold with an extra arcade stick and mega pack vol. 1.
I'm already aware of the build quality, playback issues, and that tommo may not be able to release anymore games or software updates,
Am I making a mistake?

What does /vr/ prefer? Jewel cases like the PSone and the Dreamcast or keep cases like everything after the 2000?
Jewel cases, though longboxes are so deliciously old school.
I kind of dig those old long saturn boxes
>>2794285
I adore PS1 style jewel cases, but if I absolutely had to choose, I'd go with the PS2 style DVD cases, out of sheer practicality. But it'd HAVE to be PS2 specifically, because those were high quality and had good weight, unlike the anorexic 360 cases and shoddy generic DVD cases.
Hey /vr/ I need help I have a psp with cfw 5.00 and I want to play playstation games but can't get it too work please help
ps1 iso to eboot?
PSX2PSP
Follow the instructions.
Also upgrade that fucking cfw.
Alternatively, if you're lazy as fuck, google for "psx converted eboot".
emu paradise has all the psx games already converted to eboot files... just keep each eboot in a separate folder with your psp/game folder and you're set.

Double Dragon II on NES
Plus, another beat 'em all on NES or Snes. Some japanese stuff.

Is this the best console for retro game emulation?
>>2793841
Original wii modding works great. Ouya is good if you have one laying around. It'll work with anything from ps1 and earlier. A small form factor pc would be best though
>>2793841
That's not a PC...
>>2793841
Absolutely 100% the original Xbox was the best for emulation. Most emulators were very well polished, and it could even run some N64 games as well; my roommate and I played through Harvest Moon 64 using the Project 64 port on the Xbox. One thing it even has over the Wii is the ability to output 720p or 1080i.
