Some things just can't be fixed.

They need to stop saying shit like:

"[Character] is easily the best in the game" because they're wrong like 95% of the time, and it just reveals their newbness. Twats.
>>
They need to do less opinionated reviews
But really, who cares when there are roms just a few clicks away.

I prefer the look of the N64 original.

>you can forsake your destiny as hero of light and join the Empire bent on peace through conquest

That's Langrisser right?
>>

That's pretty hardcore. I always love it when Japanese games do that, it's almost always a given in western games that you'll have multiple routes, so it's really special because it's so rare in Japanese ones.
>>
>>2779536
That's the beauty of well designed Japanese games. When they commit to some mechanics, they go full out and create some incredibly detailed and well designed systems and alternate plots. Just look at Tactics Ogre, or all the content you can miss in some of the classic RPGs.

Today is this game's 20th anniversary, and David Jaffe is still a major dick.

So what about /vr/? Playing any car combat games lately? Is there any game that has more of a dickhead AI than the first two Twisted Metal games?

It took me many, many years to find out that Head On was the right game for me.

TM2 had low framerate, graphics were too early-3D for me, control preset had a few personal quirks.

TMB had god tier story, characters and vehicles, but gameplay was a bit dodgy for me.

TM PS3 was all gameplay, but characters and vehicles were definitely not there at all.

Then I played Head On and was pleasantly surprised that the PSP condensed controls were perfect for me. The art style was still the traditional Single Tac comic style used in Twisted Metal and Jet Moto. All the amazing characters and vehicles were still there. I was so happy with the game, I got the Extra Twisted edition for PS2 which had great bonus content.

Claiming Outlaw as my waifu. Angel/Thumper was hot AF too.

>David Jaffe is still a major dick

What did he do? All I remember is something about him bitching out some kotaku moron and being recorded.
Motherfucker brought us TM1&2, his contribution to society is complete.
>>
>>2779015
To unlock warthog in ps3 TM you have to beat the game on the hardest setting which is basically all ai's ignoring each other, ramming you full speed and shooting all weapons at you what seems like 3 at a time + freeze. Great gameplay, same rad Fucking balanced weapons, but lame ass story and characters and only a few actually cool vehicles.

Only game with more of a dick ai is the wipeout series. If you rape your way to first place early on all the other ships rocket ahead with infinite mass while shoving you out of the way without flinching.

The soundtrack always reminded me of Metroid in its MO, that is, create a soundtrack that reflects and imitates the games environment.

Welcome to the Retro Game Gauntlet, gentlemen. On this special winter edition we will be doing 16-bit consoles and arcade systems.

Work through in the following order:
SNES
Megadrive/Genesis
Turbografx16 (Optional)
NeoGeo
MAME (Optional)

You have three days to complete the game without assistance (each game gets three days, though RPGs are allowed a week due to length).

Select your system here:
http://s3kr.it/gauntlet.html

You can also do it manually if you don't trust the random number generator:
http://s3kr.it/systems/

Rules:
1) Savestates are allowed ONLY for the purpose of taking screenshots and ONLY if your emulator/game in question does not have a pause function.
2) Rerolls are allowed under the following conditions:
-The game you get requires some sort of hardware functionality that cannot be accurately emulated to complete (eg, Boktai)
-The game would otherwise require cheats, hacks, or alteration of the software to complete due to a bug (eg, Cheetahmen II)
For games that have a high score or no end, the rule is
>if no high score has been established, set a goal and beat it
>if you.re playing something another anon already has a high score on, beat their high score
>if you are playing extended rpgs/pokemon/whatever you get a week (Depending on the game: needs to be asked in thread)

AND BRING ME SCREENSHOTS PARKER

IRC channel: #gauntlet on irc.rizon.net (Mibbit link on site)

NEW RULES/GUIDELINES TO POSTING IN THE GAUNTLET THREADS:

-Do not post screenshots every other screen, make them few and meaningful
-Do not start a new thread before current one bump limit is exceeded

Really hating the first real boss. The first one was just a mini boss as there are separate boss battles wtih a counter.
This guy is so annoying. Blocks whenever I press any attack button and if i try my ranged attack he just jumps over it and proceeds to attack me while im stuck in that stupid animation. Also he just keeps slashing is sword wich has more range than any of my non-ranged attacks
im not sure its possible to win this at all since he blocks like 99% of what i do and theres no chip damage so that i could still win by doing that

It's to my understanding that a lot of Anons are against instantly Googling the solution to a difficult part of a game and would rather find it out themselves or through someone else; be it someone they know personally or someone over the Internet. Furthermore, some of the games on this board are kind of obscure and some questions may be too specific, so a quick search might not weild results. I think having a dedicated thread where Anons can ask for assistance and other Anons can share their own tips, strategies, and experiences from games in response would, for lack of better terms, build a sense of community and add a level of human interaction that a Google search couldn't. I'm just rambling at this point, and it may just be a shitty idea, but I wouldn't mind having a thread like that around. What are your thoughts?

I'm game, OP. Need a little advice on building a fleet early in Uncharted Waters: New Horizons. I'm still figuring out which ports specialize in what around the Mediterranean region and I'd say my trading so far is slow, but profitable.

When's the best time to be picking up a second ship to move more goods? As soon as I can afford one with a little overhead? Tips on the type of vessel are welcome, like new or used?

I'm a fucking idiot with numbers and percentages and this is the first game I've played in a while that feels like a real learning experience.

Thanks for responding, Anon! I was honestly expecting more backlash to the idea. I started this thread as a discussion for threads in the future - I didn't expect people to start asking for help right out the gate. Unfortunately, I've never played Uncharted Waters: New Horizons, so I don't think I can help you. Hopefully this thread will gain some steam so people can discuss the potential of a /gtg/ and you can get an answer to your question.

i like this idea. ive always wanted some place online wherw you can ask for hints instead of looking at a walkthrough, as sometimes you want to figure things out on your own and just need a nudge in the right direction.
im playing through smw right now for the first time, and a tutorial box informed me that many levels habe alternate exits. ive found a couple of them and got to star road #4. im in not going for 100%, do i need to care about these exits? if so, are there any really hidden ones that id need a hint for or can i find them by playing the level a couple times? i wanna find secret stuff on my own but if theres "that one part" (like the sonic 3 barrel) id like to know!

If there a modded or third party option for the NES (not retroarch based like the RetroDuo stuff, actual hardware) with stereo sound and better video output out of the box?

I know you can mod this thing if you have the skills buying a couple of parts, but I'm not very good soldering circuits (I managed to make a PAL/NTSC switch for my SNES out of luck following a guide, but then I fucked up a Gamecube trying to install a simple mod chip. FML), I would pay some money for a better NES and not risking fucking up the one I've had all my life.

Hey /vr/ I have a question about an SNES bundle and didn't know who else to ask besides you.

On my local craigslist a fellow is offering his SNES, 2 Controllers and the following games for $300, although I got him down to $260:

Mega Man X
Super Mario World
Yoshi's Island
Super Mario Kart
Super Mario All Stars
Donkey Kong Country
DK Country 2
DK Country 3
Earthworm Jim 2
Super Ghouls N' Ghosts
Kirby All Stars
Battletoads / Double Dragon
NBA Jam
Super Star Wars
Super Empire Strikes Back
Super Return of the Jedi
Spider-Man / Venom: Separation Anxiety
Super Street Fighter 2
Spawn
X-Men: Mutant Apocalypse

Is this a deal that you guys would take? I'm leaning towards a yes but a little bit of reinforcement never hurt because I'm a pussy and not sure if I'm getting a shit deal.

>>
>>2777934
yes. on average most of those games will cost around $25
>>
Probably not worth it. None of those games are particularly rare (especially considering virtual console or ports exist for the good ones on that list) and the physical copies are only really worth something if you're looking to complete a collection of some kind. Guessing from what you're looking to buy I assume you're only interested in playing the games rather than building a collection. Also, emulation is a thing.

tl;dr don't buy it.
>>
>>2777941

Yeah you're right about me just wanting to play the games. I have done plenty of emulation stuff in the past but I'm a big nostalgia fag and have kinda romanticized the idea of having the physical console and cartridges again and such.

So what are the cons to using this thing? Any noticeable lag?

I'm in the market for a BVM but I'm thinking more long term and I'm not sure what a good hour usage is. Anyone have the XRGB Mini and knows if it works well?
36 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
Depends what you want.

The mini is for 720p or 1080p with or without scanlines. Will give you perfect picture.quality. Just make sure to get good jp21 cables or converter.

Has like 22ms of lag which is good. The bad is it drops signal with 240p-480i transitions. You'd need to use the other Micomsoft scalers to get around that.

Oh and if you're EU you need a stepdown or new power supply I believe.
>>
>>2777895

Drops signal with 240p-480i transitions? Wha?

Sorry.
>>
>>2777908
Some games will switch between 240p and 480i for cut scenes or menus. Those games the TV will go black for a good 5-10 seconds every time with the mini.
