Who else collects boxed games?
I grabbed this today for $22.
I buy them if I can find them. But that is getting harder and harder.

>I'm living proof of why reseller scum can get away with ridiculous markups
>>2798348
You sound like a suspicious and angry person.
I just played through Princess Tomato In The Salad Kingdom and had surprisingly good time with it. Does /vr/ know more "storybook" games like it that aren't Shadowgate, Deja Vu and Uninvited which I'm already aware of?
>>2797920
You mean point and click adventure games?
Waxworks is pretty good.
Paper Mario?
Phoenix Wright. The first one is retro, isn't it?
So iirc, if it's a NEW game, but released for an OLD system, it's still vr right?
because I want to talk about this
someone made a Dark Souls de-make for the ZX Spectrum
also general Spectrum thread I suppose. It was basically the British Commodore 64 wasnt it?
>>2797902
>hug is in spanish
kek, why did spaniards like the speccy so much, it's always them or the brits
>>2797941
who knows.
game is fun though. surprisingly good at getting the feel across. you even have the bloodstain mechanic
JAJAJAJAJAJAJA
any of you /vr/s remember this gem?
Yeah I managed to get it cheap last year. I hated it at first but I grew to really like it once it clicked with me.
>>2797869
Of course. Had a lot of fun rescuing the developers and getting emails from others I saved. I remember it being based on a modified NiGHTS engine. Clunky controls but you get used to them easily. Wish it had a sequel.
Giving nightmares like Wes Crave
>SQUARE SQUARE SQUARE SQUARE SQUARE SQUARE SQUARE SQUARE SQUARE SQUARE RESET FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF
Anyone else think this feature was fucking stupid? Unless you had a tubro controller it was a fucking chore.
I think the fact people actually fough by summoning GFs over and over again was fucking stupid especially when fighting by using physical attacks and limits break was always better (not to mention faster) way to fight.
Anyway anyone else think that overly long attack animations popularized by FFVII was fucking stupid and something that really should NOT have become a norm in JRPGs? At least the spam square button to do little more damage thing in FFVIII gave you something to do while wacthing that pointless hourlong attack animation...
Yes it was.
However here is something to consider.
I never use summons in battle past dollet. FF8 is my all time favourite game.
I know several people who played through the entire game using GFs as their main form of attack. They hated the game.
Thus I submit to you: do not use summons. It makes the game experience significantly better.
>>2797851
I think Eden's summon was something like over a minute and a half. If not Eden, I remember a FF8 summon taking forever.
How do you cope with crippling depression from being old and busted?
What?
Anyway, Super Mario Land has some really cool locations and enemies, I love these chinese jumping zombies.
Get mad at people younger and happier than me.
Mario Land is good but I prefer 2.
>>2797479
Land 2 was a huge improvement, and it's still quirky, but Land 1 feels like it has a sort of darker theme to it, almost as if it's /x/'s super mario game.
/vr/, what's the best way to play GB games on original hardware with decent lighting?
Pic related. Thinking of trying a GBL or frontlight modding my GBC or Pocket. There's gotta be something better than my shitty worm light
GBA SP.
If you can get one, get the backlit SP, the model number is AGS-101 (most SPs are AGS-001). Wipes the floor with all the other gameboys.
Isn't the 3ds suppose to have nice emulator?
Why is it that there seems to be a very popular opinion that 3d graphics started with 5th gen?
Random ecelebs that get linked to me, articles, and the recent influx of “what is retro” threads have been curious to me for a long time. Many seem to parrot and promote this opinion.
I have my opinion that it’s a vocal minority or maybe majority these days that didn’t grow up in the 90s with arcades to experience the birth of real 3d graphics. By that I mean polygons with textures or enough single shaded polygons to create a more “realistic” virtual environment. Vector graphics and the early 3d shaded polygons are the stepping stones to early 3d graphics. They aren’t really what I think of when someone says 3d graphics. Much the same way I think with 8bit not meaning pong to people.
The big turning point to 3d graphics was the early 90s with virtua racer and virtua fighter in my opinion. Those more so than the earlier arcade games really made 3d graphics a staple in 90s arcades.
This is a 1988 game.

We've all seen the ads in Nintendo Power of phone numbers you could call to get hints about video games. These hotlines seemed to be the rage back in the 80's, but nobody I knew back then ever called these numbers because we were really afraid of racking up the phone bill and pissing off our parents. Does anyone on /vr/ have any stories or experiences about calling these hotlines when they were kids?
>>2797098
They're completely useless. It's like trying to use an audiobook.
No wait, that's exactly what it is.
>>2797120
audiobooks are way more useful.
pay per minute services were invented for idiots that are looking for ways to part with their money.
>>2797098
Would never have been able to get through A Link to the Past without the Nintendo tip line. None of my friends played video games, and there weren't any video game walkthroughs on the internet back then.
This might sound specific and silly, but I figure you guys would know better than /v/.
I'm craving two kind of RPGs. One that lets me customise my party classes and abilities a lot and doesn't lose its difficulty. Or dungeon crawler that you can just jump in to and it'll try to fuck you up. It doesn't need good graphics or a story, but just solid mechanics. JRPG or Western doesn't matter either.
Unfortunately, I'm not well versed in all things /vr/, so any recommendations would be cool. Dragon Quest 6 looks fun as far as party customisation goes and I'm going to give Nethack a shot.
Thanks in advance.

>One that lets me customise my party classes and abilities a lot and doesn't lose its difficulty.
Romancing SaGa 2/3

DAYTONAAAAAAA thread motherfuckers
Outrun, and other SEGA racers welcome as well.
PC port of the XBLA version never, of course
outrun on the saturn + racing wheel is literally heaven
>>2796601
Anyone wanna start a petition for this?
>>2796649
Nuh, i'm okay with my saturn port of daytona.
ITT things that blew your mind
>the level isn't actually rotating
when you touch the "R" panels, the maze start rotating to the other direction, so I'd say it rotates.
By the way, did you know that those bonus levels were inspired by a fever dream Shigeru Miyamoto had when he ingested some shrooms?
>>2796536
shrooms while having a fever? That's fucking brilliant! Why have I never thought of that?
Oh wait, I barely get sick and when I do it's usually chills, not fever.
>>2796536
>shigeru miyamoto worked for sega
nice try m8
How the hell am I supposed to play this game if I can't get power armor? If I tell a random guy to fuck off then I can't get radaway and I can't survive most encounters without powerarmor. How the fuck is this even fair? It's complete bullshit.
>>2796461
Ok fuck the OP i have a question.
If I am going to start playing the original fallout is there anything I should know, or is it intuitive enough that I can be successful playing blind?
pfft, kids these days
It's called trying harder, now start a new game, make the character suck less this time and learn from your mistakes, make multiple saves in case you're retarded again. If you go to youtube for help you're a fucking 13 year old. That simple.
Get back in thar!!!
come on, it's a game FOR GAMERS, BY GAMERS. You shouldn't have problems with it if you're a true GAMER
Yes I love this thread already
Anyone have Saturn recs that aren't shmups?
