Was supposed to be a fan game for the community of /vr/, but got abandoned as the team got busy with other things.

Why are the games from the Mega Man X series so much more popular than the Classic games around here? They have way less challenging platforming and are honestly pretty dull to play.

Both games are finally being translated! Apparently these are two of the best Falcom games ever made.

Both games have been hacked so now the script can be placed in the code.

>I am beginning to get a feel for how long it's going to take to translate Xanadu I. The prologue strikes me as having a little more text than the average chapter, of which there are 12 in total. Assuming that's true, I expect it to take around 80-100 hours to work up a full first draft.

>This is a really fun game to work on, though. The locations are all so unique and developed. In the prologue chapter, for example, there are two villages on an island that each make their own wines, and they're rivals. A drama unfolds involving the two mayors and two lead winemakers of both towns as well as the aristocrats who have come to vacation in a private, out of the way mansion. There's a cave with an ancient monster in the mix, too.

>The next chapter is totally different. It happens in a port town run by a corrupt businessman who over-taxes a nearby community of old farmers. A thief, who eventually joins your party, plays a Robin-Hood role between them. After many events, you get a ship to sail around a mountain range to a town that's been destroyed by monsters, where important discoveries are made.

>Each of the 12 chapters is unique like this. Every one has a set-up entirely its own, full of characters with developed and important identities. I think people will enjoy experiencing this in English.

I put in a couple hours today. I'll try to post every time I make progress!

>Elmer started hacking Xanadu II from square one. It has only been a few weeks since he began, but already he has not only cracked Xanadu II, but also made enormous headway into opening up Xanadu I for translation as well.

>Xanadu II is first in line to get done. At this time, the script is extracting completely, including odd things like the menu text and weapon shop text. Once any remaining kinks are ironed out and the layout of the dump is finalized, we'll be able to transfer my old translation into the new dump (hopefully using automation) and begin reinsertion. No promises, but since the Japanese-to-English side is already so far along, this should come together relatively quickly.

>Xanadu I is a beast of a game. It is literally 2.5 times the size of Xanadu II in almost every regard: it takes about that much longer to beat, there is about that much more text, and the cut-scenes are about that many more minutes. Though there are some things about the way it operates behind the scenes that are structurally simpler than Xanadu II, we're also more starved for free RAM with it. A good English translation is going to take up a lot more space than the original Japanese text, so some miracles are going to have to be performed to make everything fit. However, I am very optimistic about it coming together.

>I really hope it does, too, because Xanadu I is a hell of a game.

>However, at this time, none of the enormous in-game script is translated. It's going to take a while. Happily, while waiting for new script dumps, I have as of today completed my first draft of an English script for Xanadu I's cut-scenes. They literally total over one hour in running time, and the draft is over 5000 words. And this leads me to...

So talking to a friend today about our backlogs and how strapped we are for time to play games, made me think of when I was younger and was instead time-rich and game poor.

Not a new notion by any means, but which games did you put the burn on back in the day, the games you played to death and then just kept on playing?

For me I remember Shining Force III on Saturn got so many hours of playtime. I got up to the Vandal boss in the haunted house and couldn't get any further on my first playthrough. I re-started the game from the beginning, and managed to finish it all the way to the end. I loved it so much, I just almost immediately started a new save file and played the game again. Not long after fininshing a second time, I tried again, trying to get all the secret characters and trying different weapons and strategies. I just couldn't get enough of that game, I played it through to completion so many times just trying diferent teams and weapon combinations (I could never save all the refugees until I played it a few years ago with a guide though...)

Crazy Taxi was another one, on Dreamcast although I had a lot of games, this one was like crack for me. Not only did my friends love the shit out of it everytime they came over, I used to play it consistently throughout the Dreamcast's lifespan. I managed to get high scores of over $20k pretty often. I feel like I got over $50k once, but i think I must be remembering it wrong. I do remember this game was in my Dreamcast in between pretty much every other game I owned, I always was keen to play a quick couple of rounds of Arcade Mode.

Played the hell out of Rayman 2 on the PC. The game is pretty linear but I still went through trying to get all the lums, cages, and secret level endings. Still my favorite Rayman game in terms of gameplay, story, and aesthetics. Overall really charming. Really felt they nailed this one. I still make an effort to play it through at least once a year. 3 was kind of a let down, but still hoping we'll see any kind of Rayman 4, even if it's not like the 2nd.

Whose dick do I have to suck to get a translated version of Goemon 3? It has a Zelda-like overworld with quests, objects and characters, so it requires text comprehension more than the other games, but still has all the wacky, colorful creativity and 2D platforming typical of the franchise

But this is a Goemon thread so I'm not mad at you.

I wish the good PS1 games in the style of the SNES games would get translated. At least the GBC game is a straight platformer and can be played without problems.

As for the dick sucking, just pay them. That'll do.

What are your favorite ARPGs?

I played all the Zelda and wanna try more classic ones. My favorite Zelda is LA though so I've been curious about the first "Mana" game which got renamed Final Fantasy adventure, because I like the GB aesthetics, but it also has a GBA remake, and I've been wondering which one is better, what's the consensus from fans of the games?

Also been looking into the Ys series, which is the best to start with? It seems the fan consensus is that 3 is the best, but it also had a PSP/PC remake, so same question: which version is considered better and why?

It's a shame whenever people get into series beacuse of remakes or reboots. Everytime I see people talk about Ys it's always the newer ones. Imo always start with the originals. You should try Ys 1 or Ys 3, both give you a good take on Ys.

Zelda is not an action-RPG, except LoZ 2.

Apparently, the translation is pretty finished (currently on beta, patch available on RH.net)

Anyone played it yet?
The bonus content makes me want to give it a try especially the whole reviving Nei thing, but the art style is holding me back (pic unrelated, since it's by a different artist).

What you spoilered there is actually concerning to me as the unusually grim time of ps2 was a real part of its greatness to me. The theme of futility it holds is so unusual in any game let some a jrpg.

Whenever I play PS I am blown away by how far ahead it was of other jrpgs at the time.
>>
I finished it today, but in Japanese.
I got through most of the game without a guide so I completely missed the whole revival thing.
Finding the damn crevasse and the Ney Weapon quest however drained me so much that I just grinded for manufactured equipment and used a map instead of accurately mapping all those damn holes.
>>
>>2782096
From what I understand, you have to beat the game first before it will let you go back and revive her. And it only adds a few lines, along with her appearing during the ending sequence fight against the evil Earthling guys. There wasn't much interaction between characters in PS2 anyway, but it still feels like they should have done more to make that event a bigger deal.

Can we talk about one of my favourite video games of all time? Experiences? Memorable moments? Favourite enemies?

It took me 10 years to finally beat this game. I had it as a kid on the NES but I never finished it. My mom sold the NES and all the games for 10$ at a garage sale. I was so pissed because she sold it when I was putting up posters for the damn sale.

Anyways, I got the game on the Wii and finally finished it. Then a few months back I was high with some friends and one of them let me play his NES and I finished SMB.3 for the first time on the NES. Because of my altered state I was playing like a mad man.

No, no we cannot.

Every time I go to play Mario 3 I try to feel the magic that others feel with this game, but I can never get into it. I don't like the exploration aspect, it makes the levels seem sparse if you're just aiming for the goals.
>>
>>2782112
I agree. SMB3 is the start of the casualization of the Mario series. I want a pure platformer, not an exploration game. SMB1 is superior.

Post your favorites soundtracks nobody but you knows.

I'll start with Vajra (1993) by Datawest (makers of Rayxanber) for the LaserActive system. This is a rail-shooter on which you fight against a flying mecha. Being a laserdisc game, the game has a primitive CGI video playing while fighting, and it contains the music. Sadly, there aren't rips from it, so there is only the Laserdisc footage with the music.

Not sure if this should go in the CRT thread or not (maybe it should even go in /g/) but it's related to retro gaming so I may as well post here.

Does anybody know any good RGB SCART male to male or male to female cables? I need some SCART cables extended from the end of my cable's console to my SCART switch. I've heard that bad SCART cables can produce a lot of noise so looking to pay higher for better quality.

just look for some that don't have the cheap black plastic on them. Try european stores as you will have more options there. good scart cables aren't just a mess inside. Also make sure they're fully wired obviously

Eurofag here. I've never ever seen a SCART ribbon cable in my life and still wonder why that is the default Wikipedia image.
