Not sure what to play? Don't know where to turn? Don't make a new thread, post about it here instead!

I recently got a Super Everdrive, and thus finally a reason to plug in the SNES mouse I've been carrying with me for about 8 years. Test program says everything worked perfect, I ran it through Mario Paint and Civilization, both worked great.

My question is, are there any other SNES Mouse compatible games worth playing other than:
AD&D:Eye of the Beholder
Civilization
King Arthur's World
Lemmings 2
Might and Magic 3
Mario Paint
? Because other than those and maybe Arkanoid, I don't see any games worth playing, and I don't know about the PAL and Japan releases. Anyone have any recs?

a lot of them are Japan only, but wikipedia has a full list of all the SNES mouse compatible games...

>>
I, on the other hand, have an everdrive and no SNES mouse and therefore had to download the hacked joystick version of Mario Paint in order to get it to work.

I just finished Dino Crisis 1 for the first time, and I found it to be pretty obnoxious. I like RE 1-3, but the DDS keys and stupid crane pipe puzzles made little sense to me. It also seemed like there was almost no point to the guns. Maybe it's because I was an RE vet first, but 90% of the time it was a better idea to just run past the dinosaurs and follow through on all the stupid fetch quests and doubling back for keys and batteries.

Is the second game any better? I'm kinda disappointed; I think over hype for this game killed it for me.

>It also seemed like there was almost no point to the guns.

Guns in DC were meant to stun dinosaurs. Made it way more survival-y since you couldn't just shotgun your way through a hallway and come back later to waltz through.
>>
>>2784889
Yeah, it's just that if you were good enough at running and juking, you didn't really even need to stun dinos. I only played it on Normal though, so I could imagine it being a necessity on Hard. The variety of dinos was also sorely lacking. Is Dino Crisis 2 still very puzzle/fetching oriented? Kinda bored me.
>>
>>2784891
Dino crisis 2 was more action oriented.

The Internet confuses me. What's the objectively best version of this game available in English?

Keep in mind that unless it's on Wii (the only console I own) I'll have to emulate it. Already tried emulating the PSP version and I'm getting a bug where the background music stops early and the cutscenes don't play properly (sometimes I get only the audio and THEN the cutscene starts with no audio. Sometimes it just hangs), I'm not putting up with that.

Is settling for the SNES version even a decent option?

Why do you need English? Just buy the Wii version.

The only official English is the psp port. There's a translation patch for the original pce version too.

I'm not gonna start a debate, but I personally do not like Dracula X snes. On the other hand, Rondo is one of my favorite games.

Try both though. See if you like either.

SNES "version" is a different game.

Are there any old, preferably 2D, games that have mechanics similar to modern-day horror games? Like for example in Soma there's a part where you're in a maze-like area where an enemy is following you, and you can close doors behind you to slow him down. Or in Knock-knock (pic related) where you have to repair lights to slow down enemy-spawning. Like you can't directly attack enemies, but you can do stuff in the environment to slow them down?

I live in PAL region. Is it better to hook up my N64 via chinch cable or chinch with scart converter to my HDMI? Is it the same? Is quality lost or added through the converter which comes standard with consoles? I wish I could connect the N64 to the YCbCr/YPbPr port of my HDTV like my PS2 for superior picture quality. When you put the yellow video cable in the blue port you get b/w picture but it looks far more superior. Are there any YCbCr/YPbPr n64 cables? What is the talk about s-video vs composite cable in NTSC regions? Is composite basically chinch? In europe composite is YCbCr/YPbPr. I guess s-video is the best for analogue TVs. What is the best for HDTVs?
Can u put the wii/wii u YCbCr/YPbPr cable into the n64?

>>
It is exactly the same shitty composite video.

A few things:
- Your LCD might treat the signal differently (it shouldn't) according to the input, and use different post-processing (all of which will add significant lag). If you disable all post processing ("game mode") then you'll get the same exact picture quality in the end (ton of color bleed, bad definition, everything smeared across the screen).
- PAL N64 can not output S-Video at all because Nintendo was incredibly retarded and removed all support for it. Just as it can not output native RGB as well.
- You can mod the N64 for RGB, which will provide a very significant boost in quality. You'll need to buy additional hardware (an internal amp, basically) for that to work well.
- Alternatively, use an emulator. I'm dead serious here, the original console will look like ass on a HDTV anyway.
>>
>>2783642
Funny, I also emulate, but I wanted to play Pokémon Snap again and it isn't working on emulation. Should I maybe connect the N64 to my old CRT? Will the picture quality be a bit better?
>>
>>2783635
>In europe composite is YCbCr/YPbP
No, that always has been "component", aka "YUV".

>you get b/w picture but it looks far more superior.
Composite doesn't handle color information well, at all. B&W pictures will indeed look sharp in comparison, as Chrominance information won't get in the way and "jam" the signal.

>Is composite basically chinch?
No. Composite is a signal. "Cinch" is a connector type, usually just called "RCA" (although it wasn't invented by the Radio Corporation of America at all, but whatever). Usually, composite video is carried over a yellow RCA connector, yes.
Component video ("YUV") is also carried over RCA connectors usually too (three for video, two for audio).
RGB is usually carried over SCART connectors (or, in North America, BNC connectors).
SCART is a multipurpose connector still, and can carry a lot of other signal types as well, like composite, svideo, or audio (to the TV, as well as from the TV to other devices). This is why it has a lot of pins, some being useless for consoles and unused or simply removed from the connector.

>s-video is the best for analogue TVs
No, VGA is (progressive scan), then RGB (raw unencoded picture buffer) if SD. YUV can surpass RGB in some situations, but is encoded, with encoding/decoding chips varying in quality.
If 240p, RGB SCART usually is the best and easiest way of doing things.

>Can u put the wii/wii u YCbCr/YPbPr cable into the n64?
You'll probably just get composite video over a single RCA connector, and not YUV. PAL N64s can not do S-Video, that was a design choice by the manufacturer.

I bought one a little over 2 years ago and although I wouldn't drop the amount of money for a brand new car to play Neo Turf Masters on it, I think I've gathered up a pretty decent little collection at this point.

So far I've got The Super Spy, Ninja Combat, (meh I know but they were the ones that came with the console), Top Player's Golf, The King of Monsters, Samurai Shodown, Fatal Fury Special, Magician Lord, Crossed Swords, Baseball Stars 2 & Nam 1975

I would like to pick up a few more for it but I'm not sure which ones I have yet to buy that aren't like hundreds of dollars now. There are no flash carts for it and there are multicarts but they're like $500. So do you have any specific recommended titles for me /vr?

Sell your AES and grab yourself a consolized MVS or a supergun + MVS board and get MVS carts. You can get that Neo Geo 161 in 1 that only costs $80 or so.
>>
>>2783246
Yeah some of those are really nice especially the consolized MVS's made of stained walnut wood but damned that AES is a sexy machine too. How much are MVS to AES conversion carts going for these days?
>>
>>2783239
I would advise getting rid of the AES and getting an MVS instead honestly.

AES is just too damn pricey. I'm even feeling the burn on MVS and theres only a handful more games I even really want for it. namely Neo Drift Out, Neo Turf Masters, Twinkle Star Sprites, Blazing Star, Bust-a-move 2, and Shocktroopers.

My collection:
>Metal Slug 1-4 + X (4 is pirate)
>Magician Lord
>Magical Drop 2
>Puzzle Bobble
>Crossed Swords
>Strikers 1945+
>Sengoku 3
>Windjammers (JP)

I went back to play on a real genesis for the first time in like 20 years.
Damn the sound is terrible. I mean I never owned one but I played on my buddies at the time. Hours with zombies ate my neighbors.

A good revision too.

Was actually the first time I remembered something from childhood not being that terrible only to play now and it just being so inferior to the SNES.

Have any games from your childhood turned out to not be that great now that you’re an adult?

what games are you playing on it?

the key of video games having good sound isn't really the sound chip itself, but who was the sound technician working on the games.
>>
>>2783175
Zombies ate my neighbors and bloodlines.
>>
>>2783179

I don't think Bloodlines sounds bad at all, but Konami was generally better working with the SNES' soundchip.

Try game series like Sonic, Streets of Rage and Thunder Force.

Are there depressing retro games about nihilism, absurdism and existentialism like Lars von Trier's Melancholia?
NES,SNES,PS1,N64,Dreamcast,Sega,Gameboy(Color)?

I must think of all Final Fantasy titles, even the modern ones, mainly JRPGs.
Mostly Final Fantasy VI - Kefka

Where did the mechanic "if you are good at the game, the game rewards you and it gets much easier" came from?
Shouldnt it be the other way around so experiences players get a challenge?

Beats me. Gradius sure as hell don't follow that trend, the ranking system is bound to tear you down sooner or later, OP weaponry be damned.
>>
Quarter munchers. They're designed so you either die quickly and someone else can walk up to the machine and drop money in to it, or if you are good, it gives you a rewards to keep one person constantly engaged. You could also argue it has roots in /tg/ rpgs where you level up and become more powerful. There's also a matter of design where some games are set up such that they reward time spent by making the game easier, while people who are good at it can skip various power ups and rush to the end faster. There's a reason no one gives a shit about high scores, but speed runs have a dedicated community.
