Get on Tinder, ask the locals for recommendations. Tinder is a buffet for white guys that speak some spanish in Mexico City.

Go mountain biking in Puerto Vallarta and do the zipline thing, it's great.
>>
Take buses around, get the top class. It's so goddamn nice that I'm willing to go for a 8 hour bus ride over a 1-hour flight, even though the cost doesn't matter to me.

>>1222436
Please, even if you don´t go, don´t believe the meme of "Toluca de Lerdo is fucing ugly".

Do you know if Mexico City is dangerous at the moment? Thanks
>>
>>1223662
Mexico City currently has one of the highest police officer to resident ratios in the world, with one uniformed police officer per every 100 citizens. The murder rate in 2009 was 8.4. by comparison, higher than the 5.6 in New York City but less than the 14.8 in Atlanta. Crimes declined from 2012 to 2015, but raised a bit in 2016. Most of the crime happens in non-touristy boroughs that you will never see: Iztapalapa.

And if you are worried about cartel violence, that kind of violence does not really happen in Mexico City.

Thanks a ton man. Cheers

I'm in Mexico City now, debating between going to San Miguel, Oaxaca, or Guanajuato for a couple weeks. I don't really care what there is to do there, I really just need a place where I can chill out, concentrate, and take care of some things.

Looking for some place tranquil with decent restaurants/cafes, nice weather (not too hot now), and maybe some hookers around for when I get bored (planning to stay on my own in an AirBnB).

Who here has been to Mexico City?

Would it be a cool trip for 2 dudes to do for 4 or 5 days?

I really love Oaxaca, I'd always recommend it. I'd check to be sure that there aren't strikes/some bullshit shutting down the Zocalo however. If you want tranquil with good food and nice chilling, that's the place. Make sure to go up onto Monte Alban just outside the city, visit the Cathedral, check out the museums, and find your way out to Tule to see the tree. While you're at Tule ask around to eat at the Restaurant named Sonora. It's a little out of town but it's an absolute incredible restaurant for meat. I'd recommend also going out to some of the villages that produce Mezcal and drinking some there, it tastes incredible when it is fresh and seeing the process is cool.

Try and get a ride out to Teotitlan as well, and buy a hand woven rug. You'll get a great experience out there and there's an extremely good restaurant for traditional Zapotec food there.

I can't speak to hookers in Oaxaca, I've never had to use one. The girls there love a white boy that can dance fyi.

Try shrooms in Oaxaca
>>
Anybody been to any of the border towns around Texas? I've heard they're dangerous compared to other parts of Mexico, but I've got a weekend to kill and I figured it'd be fun so long I wasn't killed. Any recommendations? Worth the visit?

I ended up going to Oaxaca. It's definitely not as tranquil as I was hoping for, because of the cars clogging up everywhere, and it's a little hot for me. But overall seems like a decent place so will stay here a while.

I have to be pretty productive here so I'm not going out, and there's not much on Tinder. Plenty of brothels around for $20 though.

Turns out that Oaxaca is dramatically nicer and calmer outside of the historic center. Moved to Xochomila and it's much nicer. Definitely going to stay for a while.
>>

>Moved to Xochomila and it's much nicer.
Where is this? Google can't find it and suggests Xochimilco.
>>
Speaking of Mexico, how crowded is Mazatlan around this time? I'll be over there next week and I saw some pictures of Cancun and it seemed terrible how crowded it was.

I'm from Laredo. Go back once every couple months these days. Laredo is chill, there's a bunch of new outlet malls. Border area is walkable and safe.

I have to go to Nuevo Laredo for family shit like 3 or 4 times every year...I wish I didn't. I stick to where I need to go. It's not safe for people that don't know it. It used to be, sadly not anymore.
>>
Ecatepec is safer and cooler these days, stick to where the new skycar thing across the highway is. I love drives to Teotihuacan even just for the drive to stare out at Ecatepec.

My favorite two bars in Condesa area:
La Botica
El Trappist
sort of mexican 20something hipsterish but still chill af

Tianguis del Chopo market on Saturdays is killer

Uber is super fkn cheap
>>
for a place in the city to take a breather and chill, some good shit, Frida's house if you're into that...check out Coyoacan neighborhood, I really like the main square.
>>
can find anything in tepito or mercado de merced. fun to just walk around.
>>
>>1226955
Yeah, that's it.
>>
>>1227498
Why would you want to stare at Ecatepec, it is literally a slum, and a dangerous one. Seriously.
>>
>>1227673
thats a very generalized statement, is it a poorer area, yeah ofc. Is it wholly undeserving of interest? no way. I've always found the views from DF and State of Mexico highways very scenic.

Mexico is great. Here's my take on it:

Tons of cool places and sights in Mexico City, and mountain region near Mexico City, Cuernavaca is very pleasant and peaceful. The west coast is also very beautiful and peaceful.

Yucatan peninsula is cool, but don't do Cancun, that place is such a tourist trap shithole, the chants of "spring break" get old fast. The Mexicans there often give attitude to the Americans, and I don't blame them because the Americans there ALWAYS act like animals.

Mexican people are great but beware the street sales people and some of the cab drivers. 2 places you will get hit the worst are the airport and the markets. If they are aggressively talking to you in an excited manner, then just tell them "no gracias" and keep walking. Don't be afraid to be firm, they can be fucking annoying.

As far as safety, just don't enter bad areas, don't wear anything flashy, and don't be loud and arrogant.

I have found that the Mexican people respond really well to 2 things: being a calm polite person, and making an effort to speak some Spanish. Just be laid back there, never in a hurry to do anything. The women there will also respond well to this attitude.

One thing I love about Mexico, is those people love their adventures. The jungle tours, plane rides, boat excursions, dolphin swims. There is a million fucking fun activities there and they are all fun. Try as many as you like, you won't have a bad time.

If you are an American I would downplay that shit right now as the relationship is bad. Enjoy that 20-1 Peso to USD dollar brotha.

Thom York ate at this restaurant twice

Zona Norte in Tijuana is probably the safest are in Mexico. Mainly because the criminals are incentivized to keep the peace.
>>
>>1228211
Tijuana is like the third most dangerous city in the entire country. No.
>>
>>1228211

I 2nd this. A person traveling to Mexico, I would not recommend they see Tijuana.

There's like 8 great places to go in Mexico, and Tijuana is def not on that list.
>>
>>1227740
>If you are an American I would downplay that shit right now as the relationship is bad.

I've been in Mexico since right after Trump has got elected, and have never gotten an ounce of mistreatment for it. People get excited when I say I'm from the US and ask me what city, hoping it will be the few they know of: LA, NYC, Miami basically. There have only been a couple times people have brought up trump.
>>
>>1228212
>>1228217
The city Tijuana is dangerous for Mexicans, the area of Zona Norte is safe for tourists (cash cows). It's like the inside of a casino is safe, but the area outside it is dangerous and crime ridden.
>>
>>1228384
But it doesn't matter, it is not safest place by far, and not only that, but it is also ugly, dirty, full of drugs, and even full of tropical diseases due to all the immigrants (from everywhere) that get stranded in there.

Is there any reason to go other than decent hookers in proximity to SD?

Sure there are lots of better places to go in Mexico, but if you just want to go get your rocks off cheaply and close to the US there's not much better. I don't think people would seriously consider it for other reasons.
