What did it do wrong?

What would you have done differently?

Right: better balance

Wrong: plays like a boardgame, not a bad thing, but not Dnd

Changes: Probably would have released it as a spiritual successor to heroquest and not DnD.

Right: HP / Heal Surges, ORIGINAL character builder
Wrong: Fighters / Rogues figuratively have spellbooks. Somewhat corrected by using Essential Rogues / Fighters, but too little too late.

Done differently: Concept offers better balance, but little/poor testplay sank it. Epic-level combat took forever. Also, power creep to sell books.

>INT 20

I'd say INT 7, WIS 7, and maybe CHA 16 or even 18 (sheer inherent magical power - we can surmise it's his casting stat).

CON 10 is right, but for a guy as old as he is, Meen's pretty acrobatic. DEX 14 probably. STR maybe a bit lower. STR 12 should be about right.
>>
>>50817028

The INT stat seems alright. I mean, he's knowledgeable enough to design an intricate magical labyrinth in a book. That sort of feat requires YEARS of preparation. I think he might have a shitty WIS or CHA score, because he lacks the interpersonal awareness necessary to deduce that children who frequent libraries might easily be able to spot grammatical errors.

How hard would a entire army of nothing but bards and clerics be to fight?
Not a small one, but a gigantic one. A combo of a absolutely huge parading marching band of bards and a entire religion of clerics. How do you counter such a buffed up constantly healing tide of support?

A whole army of bards? They would probably just play this ONE song and promptly conquer the entirety of the world within its 15 minute span. I'm talking a thousand bards ascending to a galactic-sized stage for a rock concert that even the GODS themselves would attend, and then cry out in agony as they come to the understanding that nothing shall evermore be as awesome.

The entire universe will stand at attention and weep as METAL fills their hearts.

Discord is an abomination that leads into circlejerking, stagnation, and gay pedophilia without fail. Every single time.

I've seen it kill generals.

Only ever use it as a convenient way to meet up with people you're already planning to play with, and even then almost any other program would be better.

If such a server exists, I guarantee you nobody there has played a tabletop game before in their life, or even wants to, and is just there to talk about video games and anime and occasionally post elves in lingerie.
>>
>>50814729

I had such high hopes for he JTRPG Discord... High hopes....

I'm looking for a recommendation for a game system that go beyond the DnD cliche of human, elf, differently coloured elf, dwarf, third kind of elf, orc, yet another elf, etc.

More than that, I'm looking for a system that makes the races mechanically different, especially if that system's setting then details the way that the mechanical differences influence the race's culture and lifestyle. Eberron did this with its 3e Warforged, and then undid it with 4e and 5e by removing all their interesting racial traits. (Warforged not needing rest of any sort was a really interesting feature, backed up by in-game immunity to Fatigue and Sleep.) Bonus points to Eberron for, despite being a DnD setting, putting the elves, dwarves and orcs off to one side where they're easy to ignore.

So, lots of different races, in a way that has the rules make them feel different rather than just being funny looking humans. Any suggestions?

You want Fantasy Craft, anon. Wanna be a tree man? How about a six-armed clockwork robutt? Murderous gobiln? A friggin' twenty foot tall giant (possibly with halfling buddy)? A (young) dragon?
And they're all mechanically distinct.

It's roughly equal to D&D 3.5 in levels of crunch, but well balanced with loads of mechanically distinct options for martials. (Wizards are a bit dull, they were to be fixed with the Spellbound book, which is due to come out just before hell freezes over, it appears)
>>

Don't be fooled. It's a near-unplayable fantasy heartbreaker that thinks it's clever by not calling its elves "elves."

What the Fuck is going on at Spartan Games?

About a year ago I bought some fleets because they were super cheap and I like spaceships that shoot "Dont Fuck with Us" beams at each other.

So I go to the store today, and what the fuck do I see?

The new two player boxsets are full of new models for the same ships. Again! This is the third fucking redesign for some races! THIRD! In like four years Spartan games has changed the look of their fleets yet again.

Does the company have ADHD or something? And where the fuck did the Dreadnaughts go? The largest ship now is a battleship in the store.

What the fuck spartan games? Does anyone know what the fuck is going on?

If I'd have to guess, they remodel them so often because new designers don't like the old models, or they can't figure out how to add new stuff so they keep reselling the same models and hoping that people buy them over and over again.

Brilliant deduction, Sherlock.
Also, I remember threads being fastest during the summer, and slowing down as fall and winter came on. Could just be me.

Nah, threads would pretty commonly go for two or three days if they got a bump now and then. They still get dumped way down towards the bottom of the board as soon as bumps stop happening though. At the time of this post, this very thread is already halfway down the board after 15 minutes of inactivity.

I'm desining a post-apocalyptical setting in the remains of a third-world country (mine). US, Russia, China and some european countries had the best war equipment, medical technology, and energy production while this region has jack-shit nothing. Some advacements here and there remain. Old time firearms are rare and the new ones are homemade, failure-prone pieces. People favour melee combat.
The question is: which alternative materials can be used for armor fabrication?
I had this idea, that religious cannibals tribes make leather and clothing out of human skin, but I'm not sure if human-based leather it's possible or useful really.

The answer is in your pic. Armor would be most likely sourced from whatever you could find in the local garbage dump/urban area.

Previous Thread 50751016

For those of you just joining us, we started a randomly generated Heretical Cult thread the other day and ended up with AI run Space Brettonia, featuring plant elves, riding hydras, and wraithlord knights.

Here's the overview.
Cults Societal Background

> Primal Devotees: These cults form around an aspect of their surroundings or environment. This might be such elemental aspects as the burning flame, life-sustaining water, an essential native vegetation, the primordial darkness, or even the unending depths of space.

Cult's Ideological Background

> Zealotry in Misplaced Idols: The cult worships various idols. These can range in origin from forbidden archaeotech, chaos artifacts or xenos gear.

Cult Leadership Type

> Strict Military Hierarchy: The cult bases its structure on an imitation of the Imperium's military ranking systems.

Cult Leadership Nature

> Something Else: (same as above) Whatever the leadership is, it is neither human-derived, xenos, nor daemonic, but a rare (and often unique) other. Known examples have included Abominable Intelligences (from the Dark Age of Technology or newer) and cosmic phenomena. The Inquisition is liable to label the entity itself as an Obscuro-type threat.

Leadership Style

> Force of Arms: Using his own personal strength or even psychic powers, the leader rules all around him with displays of brute force and physical intimidation.
108 posts and 6 images submitted.
>>
>>50781885

Equipment and Identifiers of the Cult

> Brutal Weaponry: When forced to action, the cult uses simple, direct weaponry. Heavy axes, huge mauls, and similar weapons are common. More advanced armaments follow similar trends, with chainswords, autoguns, and bolt weapons being preferred when accessible.
> Symbolic Color: The cultists show their affiliation through outfits that incorporate a specific colour to reflect their beliefs. It may be a shade uncommon among the local populace, or always worn on a particular garment.
> Plentiful Ammunition: The cult favors solid projectile weapons, grenades, and other armaments that rely upon easy access to large stores of ammunition.
> Favored Craftsmanship: The maker’s mark or factory stamp of a particular craftsman or facility can be found on a great deal of cultist equipment.

Cult Allure

> Purpose Some citizens of the Imperium find themselves yearning for something more fulfilling than endless labour to support a war machine they never see. These empty souls often turn to cults that claim to provide meaning or purpose to an otherwise pointless existence.

Rites and Observances of the Cult

> Blood Sacrifice: The sacrifice of living beings, from livestock to captured enemies, is a common way for cults to express their power. The ritual is usually symbolic, although some cults have found ways to harness the spilled life for power.

Focus of Worship

> Something Else in the Dark: The Galaxy is a place of immense scale, the Warp impossibly greater. In all that space, many other things exist to bend Man's knee and twist his mind.

We also rolled up our first controlled world, which has.
>Haven World
>Feral and Primitive
>Airless. Everything lives in little microatmosphere bubbles in between great gaps of empty moon desert.
>It has a Tech Mystery, probably the cause of said bubbles.
>The world is peerless in its loyalty to Bercilak and Morganna, and has some major infrastructure.
>The world is also renowned for crafting a particular type of equipment.
>>
>>50781953
ALSO, we have our subjugated species, the mighty DRAGON-HYDRA-PIKMIN MOTHERFUCKERS.

They come from an
>Urban homeworld.
>Are omnivores.
>Reproduce asexually via budding, hydra style.
>Primary sense is smell.
>Quadrupedal, with scaled skin.
>Lack wings, are about as intelligent as those apes that know sign language, and are in the range of about six or seven feet tall.
>Can easily wield chainswords and bolters with their manipulator limbs.
>have the abilities Intimidation, Rush Attack, Gaping Maw, and Acid Blood.
>They were a bronze age civilization squatting on another civilization's ruins before Bercilak and co took over.
>Fought pretty hard against the Knights before their leader was killed in single combat against the legendary Saint George.

Now we use them as mounts. Mounts that can operate heavy weapons.

I'm thinking about moving my homebrew 5e setting's tech level into the early 20th century.

Apart from the advantage of having undead Stoßtruppen, art deco paladins and green dragons breathing poisonous gas on trenches, what other themes or aesthetics can I bring into play? So far I've got:

> Promise of technological progress betrayed -- technology used for war instead of peace
> Ethnic and racial tensions erupting worldwide, leading to ethnic nationalism and genocide
> Radical ideologies being spread like viruses
> Isolationism versus internationalism
> Religion/conservatism/traditionalism versus atheism/progressivism/racialism
> Progressivism overall perverted/refined into fascism
> Narrowing technological gap making colonialism unsustainable, as colonized people demand independence
> Manly adventurism touted as cure for effeminacy and weakness of upper class city living

Anything else? I don't want to timeskip four hundred years just for a "dieselpunk" aesthetic.

Barring that, art thread.

So, in your setting one can take up the mantle of evil without falling?
>>
>>50815792
5E has trouble with tech.

It's simply not built to handle any setting where magic items and equivalent are common, mainly because it doesn't have a way for you to account for it them in encounter creation.

If you could fix that, then sure, sounds good.

Cultures that are new to one another meeting on a large scale for the first time--but even that is overshadowed by why they're meeting.

Think of all the colonies the British Empire had and how their regiments from different countries interacted.
