There's been a lot of 40k creation threads going around here, which I approve of, but they're all piecemeal chapters, regiments, warbands and cults.
Let's take this a step further, and roll us up details about an entire planet. After that, we'll roll up a group. It could be the Homeworld of a Chapter or Regiment, or the Forge World our latest cult is working to corrupt. Might even be the next planet of conquest for our very own Ork Klan. Who knows what could happen?

Is my take on "modern fantasy" an underused one?
I run moé-fied, monstergirl/boy-ified Planescape campaigns (see image) wherein technology is effectively modern-day by way of enchanted items.
The Society of Sensation's recorder/sensory stones can record data, so they are used as the basis for computers, digital media, audio/video/smell captures, and the like.
The Harmonium desires to connect everyone together in harmony, so they have tapped into their musical affinity to transmit data via magical sound waves that pass through the Astral Plane. This is called the "Harmonet."
In the streets of Sigil and other planar cities, one can frequently see celestials, fiends, cordians, elementals, faeries, and mortals walking around with little crystals, bones, or shards of metal. These trinkets project "tactile illusion screens" that respond to touch and serve as the interface for what amounts to smartphones. Each of these phones has a helpful sapient A.I. within them called a "mimir," which is really just the awakened object-spirit of the phone itself.
Belief is power in the planes, and thus Harmonet memes are extremely serious business.
In the average planar creature's household, there might be a scry-levision that receives feeds from the Harmonet in the Astral Plane, a refrigerator and a cooling system powered by eternal ice from the Paraelemental Plane of Ice, and a computer with a quad-soul processor.
Businesses and buildings are likewise rather modern. There are department stores, beauty salons, nightclubs, and more. You might be attended to by a lesser guardinal store clerk (those compassionate Elysians simply love to help people!) as you go about shopping for a lightbulbs powered by Continual Flame spells.
There are no cars though. Intra-city and inter-city portals are a more convenient method of transportation, and for when people do need vehicles, they can always take spelljammers (which work more like 4e's spelljammers in that they can traverse the planes).

Lots of people hate the "Alpha gamer" thing. The fact that lots of games will have an optimal way to play and thus the most informed player will just tell everyone what to do. If you think you're all on even footing or able to not be dicks, a game like Pandemic (maybe even Legacy), Mechs vs Minions, and Flashpoint Fire Rescue can be really fun. If not, then I recommend more atmosphere story-ish coops like Time Stories, Eldritch Horror, Mansions of Madness, ect. That way the player will get to decide what they want to do rather than what they need to do. My last good examples is Mysterium which mixes that coop basis with a pretty open social deduction game. You'll all discuss with eachother, but it's open to interpretation and thus people will pretty easily let you have your final say.
That's most of the coops I have. I doubt it, but I'm hoping Millennium Blades new coop mode in the expansion turns out good. I need more excuses to pull that out.

For me, Kranon the Relentless. He's got a nice Chaos-y look to him, really. I'd rather less gribbly bits on him, but the skull and spine backpack and his sword are awesome, as well as his helmet.

They're not as grand as a carnifex or as cool as Kranon, but something about phoenix terminator just make me diamonds.
Rather simple design when you get down to it, but they still manage to look powerfull, elegant and emitting martial prowess.
I could go on for ages about them, but i'll leave it as 'they're very pretty and well designed'

How do I learn to roleplay? Specifically, how do I get into a character's mind well enough to decide which exact words they say in accordance to their personality that is not my own?
I want to keep playing tabletop RPGs for the story, combat and exploration, and part of me craves human interaction in small doses so I can't "just play a video game", but it's really mentally exhausting for me to the point of being not fun.
Of course I can get by when I want to suggest a course of action, or I feel my character agrees or disagrees with someone, but those are short sentences and far between. What's hard for me is separating how I think from how my character thinks when I as a player have nothing in particular to say on a topic.
Whenever I think about speaking in-character, I have to think "Am I sure my character's opinion and their manner of expressing it are consistent with all the traits I want to convey?", which takes too long and by then the in-character conversation has moved on.
When inspiration finally strikes me and I can spit out a half-decent line of dialogue quickly, I'm never sure if it actually makes sense for my character's intended personality or just sounds dramatic.
In real life, I only speak when spoken to, when I seriously have something to add to the discussion, or when I want something. But in games I've been pressured to participate more when I haven't said anything in 10 minutes, and my last group kicked me out for being too quiet.
Playing a mute character probably isn't the answer, because I've been in a group with one, and she was one of the most nuanced and likeable PCs I've ever seen through eloquent descriptions of body language, which I have even more trouble writing on the fly.
Please try to give a more detailed answer than "practice", because I don't want to be kicked out of any more groups.

1. My character is not always the exact opposite of me, just different in some ways.
2. This is about speech, not actions. What my character DOES is usually simple enough because there are only a handful of options that aren't suicidal. What my character SAYS is difficult for me.
