So I have been wanting to try boardgaming, since I went to a friends house and played this cool game where we were all in a huanted house and one of us turned out to be some demon controlling freakshow.
Before I had only played risk and monopoly, which wasn't really fun.
So I saved up and got my first board game of my own! (Pic Related)
It's YUGE! So many pieces. I am reading the rules now, and there's a lot to remember.
Anyone have any experience playing Twilight Imperium?
>>50797231
Say goodbye to 6+ hours of your day OP.
>>50797231
Never got to experience it firsthand, but several people I play with have tried it. They all like it a lot, but it takes so much of a time (and coordination) commitment they rarely play. They do really like it, though, it's supposed to be a pretty good game.
>>50797231
Holy Jeebus, OP!!!
While TI3 is a great game, I wouldn't make it my first jump into 'real' board games. It's pretty complicated and requires ALOT of time to learn and play.
It sounds like the game you liked with your friends was Betrayal at House on the Hill. That's a fine game for beginners, and games around that 'weight' are probably where you want to start.
There's a Board Game General, /bgg/, on this very board. Go there, introduce yourself and ask for recommendations. You'll (probably) get some good advice.

How about you don't try to be just like your Taiwanese Puppet Drama characters in a game that isn't intended to represent that style of character?

So what is the potential of a world literally made up of still-living gods?
Limitless, of course.
So basically Hindu mythology? Or to keep it game-y, The Elder Scrolls?
>K6BD meets Orc Stain
It certainly has Magical Realm potential if you ask me.
I wanna run a fantasy campaign after years and years of contemporary settings and cyberpunk. But at the same time, I wanna avoid overusing the sorts of locales everyone's seen a million times over. There's only so many times a sewer romp or an ancient dwarven ruin can feel fresh.
What are some actually interesting kinds of fantasy locations to toss at 'em? Crystallised forests inhabited by sentient fungus? Cavernous meteorites filled with creatures from beyond stars? Ancient temples where the flow of time is all fucked? Any kinds of ideas are appreciated.
>>50791423
It's nice when the whole world is fantastic. Just look up to the sky and realize you're not in Kansas anymore.
>>50791423
-A city of fairies that lives on a pinhead. They hold many secrets to size-biased magics.
-Stairway to heaven. Surprisingly short, actually leads to a floating island where winged humanoids live. The residents understand, but still must turn entire pilgrimages away on a regular basis. Will gladly accept donations.
Neverland - A city that is forever falling down a bottomless hole.
Blind Bluff - A land that only exists by people who can't see it. Sighted folk will see a bunch of people walking on air just beyond a cliff. If they close their eyes, they may join.
Have you ever been backstabbed by a fellow party member? Have you ever done it yourself?
>>50790070
Happened all the time in WoD. Also any iteration of D&D seemed to always attract the worst people in college.
I've had characters murdered in their sleep by 'comrades', shoved into trapped pits for keks, eaten alive by the party, entire teams sold out for a few thousand gold coins. People can be pretty terrible.
>>50790070
I have stabbed myself on occasion, yes
>>50790070
Closest I've ever come to was NOT tellling the party about the eons old Dracolich that's currently taking up residence in my mind.
I'm trying to befriend it.
What are some books/movies/vidya that you want to set or play a campaign in?
>Pic Related, One I've wanted to do for years
>>50787532
XII's Ivalice has a great deal of excellent environments, races, and technologies to work with. The Myst in particular is a great aspect of the setting that could be used in all manner of party challenges. I'll admit I've often had the same desire, though it would take some serious work.
I really want to run a campaign in D.D. Webb's The Gods are Bastards. The various cults, particularly the Thieves Guild, are very well fleshed out and would make great character origins for party members of a clerical nature, but I feel like I would be forced to lock out the Paladin class for lore reasons, though maybe I could just rename it "Battle Cleric" or something. The only Paladins in TGoB are individuals specifically chosen within their cults by the Gods themselves, and they don't do it often. In fact, quite a few Gods have never had one paladin in their entire history.
>>50787532
Personally, I want to run in VI. Best game in the series right there. Magitech/steampunk aesthetics(that isn't complete cog-fetish), one of the best villains in the series, and a wide cast of playable characters with unique abilities and powers.
>>50787621
Yeah, I've been considering running a 'altered universe' version of the story. Certain things changed, new characters added and existing characters changed enough so that you can't accurately predict exactly what they'll do.
I don't think anyone I know has played it, but don't want to let them try to out-lore me outside of the game.

How would your party deal with a real villain whose superpower is to instantly claim legal ownership of anything, from the month of June, to a bird's tweets, to city streets, to both of your feet, to the four cardinal directions, to the floor and the ceiling, to all your feelings?
>>50783043
pass legal legisalation preventing him from claiming ownership of things that have not been purchased without the proper legal paperwork
>>50783043

>>50783043

I like the idea of owning stuff that used to be valuable and isn't anymore. What MTG cards lost the most value over the years? I know back when I started playing magic Call of the Herb was a big winner, like 20$ for its time, now it's worth next to nothing. Anything else lost tons of value? What's been horribly outclassed or overprinted or banned or otherwise made worthless?

Are flails real weapons, /tg/? Shitty or not, if they're just a creation of fantasy I want to know.
>>50778897
I feel like you could have just googled this.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flail_(weapon)
>>50778897
Judging by the fact that there’s precious little arguments about it, I'm guessing it's almost certainly a decent weapon, unlike axes, spears, swords and anything else /tg/ says is a shitty weapon.
Flails are real. I own a few because they are really good for precise blows and take advantage of leverage and momentum if you wind them up. I have them because I read that they would be really good against zombies so I have them to use in case of a real-life zombie apocalypse.
Give me something a monk would say.
