Hey can we have a discussion about how magical the real world actually can be? Could you imagine just how bewildered ancient civilisations would be at mankind's powers today?
For example
>massive magical leylines that allow transfer of energy and information
>hand sized devices that glow and allow people to be in near constant, telepathical communication
I think it's neat as fuck.

What goes in this dungeon? Doesn't have to be D&D stuff. Put whatever.
I'll start us off.
#11 This room is locked and requires a key to be opened (or a high DC str check, or someone higly skilled in thievery). The room itself is quite simple, with stone walls that extend 30' in the air and a bell-shaped roof.
Two large tapestries (worth 50 coins each) hang on the side walls. The far end of the room is raised up 2' from the ground, and on the ground before it are several "donations" to the owner of the facility (is it a garden, temple, or what?). These are mainly worthless, but among them is a coin that always lands on tails, and a rose that will never wilt.
Sitting on the platform is a sentient, liquid-metallic sphere. It is a bio-mechanical creature that speaks in binary (the DM should do this) and wants nothing but to help all other organic life assimilate with mechanical life.
It does this by releasing paralytic gas (low DC), and forcing the paralyzed victim to ingest a tendril of the creature's material. What it doesn't understand is that this kills people. Doesn't do anything fancy.
If creature is met with significant resistance, it will whimper and attempt to flee, escaping through the gap in the roof in area 6. If defeated completely, the liquid metal can be harvested and inside the body, where the core would be, is a small computing motherboard. Who knows how this can be used?
>>50804285
Room Eight.
A foreboding voice will speak as soon as the adventurer's enter the room, indicating that it is not only aware of their presence, but has been watching them. And as a result, it has taken the time to set up a test for them.
There are three doors. The one on the left contains something that will help someone from the party. The middle one contains something that will help a few strangers. The one on the right will hold money, far more than either item is worth.
All of these are not true. Behind the first (left) door, there is a strange beast, acquainted with the scent of one of the party members. It will do it's best to flee the room when the door is open. Should the party slay said beast, it will split into two when no one is about, and these two will hunt it's slayer. Should they let it go, it will one day return as a loyal companion to whomever the kindest party member is.
The second (middle) door holds a small box atop an alter. Inside the box is a diminutive vial with swirly blue liquid. The vial is an incomplete cure, with the virus inside still very much alive and potent. Should they merely take the vial, it will never kill the virus, keeping the vial to be very potent. However, should they bring the vial with the box, it will kill the virus and create the cure in 2d6 days.
Finally, the third door opens to reveal a skeleton. It has been stuck there by magic, as it was once a greedy person. The first, actually. And the only way for him to be freed is if the entire party leaves all their possessions in that room with him, then closes the door. If they do nothing, the skeleton remains trapped. If they do, then open the door again at another point, the most valuable possession will be gone, along with the skeleton. In place of the possession is a 'Ring of Empathy'. It grants a decent bonus on any roll where Empathy is required.
The room itself is rather plain, stone. All in all, this is to hide the complexity of the challenge
#1 The entrance to this dungeon is in the trunk of a mighty, cursed tree. There is a large set of steel, double doors that require strength to push open, revealing the carved out interior. The walls are super-hardened wood, making it black and etched with warped tree rings, creating chaotic patterns.
Spaced evenly are steel sconces with glass orbs that glow softly. If broken open the light is created by bio-luminescent moss rolled into a ball.
In the two alcoves to the left are statues of tall, Elven priests. When walked by, the statues are triggered, so that when the next person walks by, they breathe a stream of fire (moderate DC, moderate damage for PC's level). The fire extends three squares.
There's also a stream that flows into the tree to the left of the entrance. It's small enough that any medium sized creatures can't fit. Anything smaller though? Totally fine. Also, they can walk under the flames without taking damage, as the statues are so tall.
bump for interest but no talent

Warpriest or bloodrager.
Sup, /tg/? Hope you're having a swell December.
I've got the need of some fellow gamer opinions on RPG systems. In general, do you prefer systems that are hardwired into their settings (good example: D&D)? Or do you enjoy systems that can be adapted to many different settings (good example: Savage Worlds)?
Pic unrelated.
>D&D
>hardwired into their setting
>the setting is a kitchen sink of fantasy that enables a wide variety of games that ranges from medieval fantasy to plane-hopping cosmic adventures to modern fantasy to gothic horror to space adventures, with countless settings and rulesbooks to help
You trollin'?
Whatever, I'm sure someone's going to come here to troll the "D&D can only do one thing even though that's never been the case) even if you're not trying to.
>>50803856
Setting-agnostic systems. Creating the setting is half the fun and more generic systems means you can include mechanics to make the setting feel different.
>>50803966
>D&D
>The setting is a kitchen sink of fantasy that enables a wide variety of games ranging from one flavor of fantasy to another flavor of fantasy to possibly a third flavor of fantasy, with countless attempts at jamming in mechanics that simply don't mesh well with the core system.
>This makes it universal
While I agree that D&D isn't "hard-wired" to a single setting the way, say, the 40K RPGs are, it's extremely disingenuous to claim that any iteration of D&D allows for games beyond barebones "fantasy but with [X]." It's meant for one (admittedly somewhat broad) genre, but when the unique aspects of setting are simply window-dressing (e.g. Hrothgar creeps through the dungeon with broadsword in hand vs. Kas'Mit stalks through the cyberjungle with laser-broadsword in hand), the differences are moot.
>inb4 "but muh houserules."
>>50803966
The point is that those are all still settings provided within the scope of the game itself though. Whether you're in Faerun, Toril, Eberron, in a Spacejammer or dealing with psi-mantids in the Dark Sun setting, it's all D&D and I don't know of many people who'd specifically play in any of those with a different ruleset.
>Greetings, elf speaking here. Currently visiting the realm of Earth while remaining hidden, as in disguising myself as a human in accordance with dimensional travel laws to prevent unrest and chaos... And Apparently I just learned about this yearly tradition these humans of Earth celebrated called 'Christmas'. Which involves them putting up astrology themed decorations and small pine trees with illuminative devices. Also this traditional holiday of theirs revolves around a charitable saint named Nicholas, better known by these humans as; 'Santa Claus.' I'm amazed that Saint Nicholas utilizes these 'elves' for labor in manufacturing toys he gives for all the good children. One might think its offensive and insulting that those "fellow" elves being used for unfair labor to make toys is an insult to the elven race, but honestly, I and many other elves could care less about these "Christmas Elves." I doubt those troglodytes being used by Saint Nicholas are even elves but are just Goblins trying to consider themselves as elves just to feel less bad about their inferior selves... So what do you think I should do in this Christmas holidays while visiting Earth? Also I'm glad I arrived a few days later and not around three days ago. Heard there was a brutal incident where people where killed and or injured in a market place due to some reckless carriage driver from what I heard from a Dwarf who's also visiting this realm of Earth. So any suggestion?

What do you think about mtg alignment system and what it does better and worse compared to the classic dnd alignment system. I'm not familiar with the mtg system just checked it and it seems like they tried too hard to be flexible about it. I didn't dislike it but comparisons on other sites favor one or the other and the general idea about mtg advantage is it's strong flexibility but it feels like you can incorporate the same amount of flexibility into the classic 9 alignment system at least that's what I do on my games. Anyway I would like to know if anyone knowledgeable, experienced about both systems points out the things I miss
I like it, more subjective than D&D alignment, even if black is pretty much the asshole color.
White/Red best combo.
>>50801509
Well, first off, the Color Pie isn't an alignment system. It's an attempt to reconcile game mechanic choices with flavor. The color pie does not consider any color to be good or evil (though some colors might have a predilection towards actions that our society would consider to be evil). White, for example, is certainly life and order. but it could just as easily be fascism. While black dabbles in death and sacrifice, it's also the color of personal freedom, of realizing that without taking care of yourself you can't be much good to anyone else.
It is versatile, though, within its bailiwick, because any combination of colors is a valid choice, and it's set up so there's natural tension between all the colors.
A color's neighbors are its allies, while the colors across from it are its enemies. So a red aligned creature, paired up with a green creature and a black creature sees itself with allies: two creatures that value freedom from rules and restrictions. However, the green creature and the black creature stand opposed because black is too self serving, too willing to salt the earth to win its goals, while black sees green as too concerned with the health of the herd over the health of the one.
Check out these articles, stretching all the way back to 2002, for info on what became the modern color pie.

Why is one of the best time periods/settings in world history so criminally underused in TTRPGs?
How do non-Americans feel about the American old west? Is interest in it nearly a strictly American thing?
>>50800952
Because it doesn't have magic
>>50800952
People probably assume that, because of the relatively common (though less so now) western movies that it's "for normals" and, therefore, boring. I personally like it, though.
>How do non-Americans feel about the American old west? Is interest in it nearly a strictly American thing?
I don't know that, but I do know a lot of old western movies were actually filmed in Italy (hence the term "spaghetti western") that probably got the genre at least slightly wider spread, though not necessarily any wider than the actual people involved in making them.
>>50800952
>>50801871
EU faggot here, its a pretty cool setting very romanticised which is dandy, personally i think it would be hard to pull of and make it good.
Are we getting a new necromunda?
I've never played original one, but I've heard it was good. I'm playing only Killteam HoR, was Necromunda better?if you throw nostalgia factor aside
>>50800901
dont get excited. its likely going to be a little race track game, with a box containing a sprue of reaver jetbikes. something cheap and simple, and probably fun for a game or 2, like gorechosen. This is not going to be a grand box game like necromunda or mordheim
>>50800901
One can hope, but you know that they say about hope.
Also is Killteam HoR rules more fun over GW ones?
>>50801028
GW had stepped up their game so maybe it wont be so bad.
>>50801836
>Also is Killteam HoR rules more fun over GW ones
I haven't played GW KT, but I think its worse. From what I've read, GW KT is basically 40k set in 250 points scale with individual models instead of units. HoR is a bit more complicated compared to this, it has custom rules to fit the game and more realistic gameplay (units get cover save if they are actually behind cover, not just standing on ruin base, difficult terrain is handled differently.
Check on HoR facebook to learn rules. Its worth it in my opinion.
Welp this is it lads. Looks like my IG army is going the ways of the squats. Its been a good run, but this is it. Cheers
Here comes the new poster boys of the Catachans or whatnot. Possibly Vostroyans or whatnot.

Had to kick my first player ever today.
>She had decided to go alone to attack some gangsters who weren't harming her in any way, for no reason.
>gets captured due to bandits getting lucky rolls with crossbows despite her caltrops.
>Tied to a chair and asked if there is anybody to pay a ransom
>tires to kill herself but can't
>bandits tell party to pay 2000 for her back. This is still low level, so they can barely scrape it together with a friendly npc's help
>they make the exchange, and she swears revenge
>goes home and kills herself in-character
>I give her a warning, with her boss appearing in a magic vision telling her to man up
>finishes herself off anyway, putting party back 2000 gold.
Now, maybe I was just short tempered because I found out today my family is putting one of our dogs down after christmas, but I finally told her to leave my game. This is not the first time her outbursts have cost the party time and resources, and it was ruining everyone else's fun, which is against my cardinal rule.
So the other players fed her corpse to a friendly ghoul and sold her gold-runes bones (established a while ago) to recoup the cost.
>>50799601
Mother fucker, you just can't let me even try to move on can you.

i dont have them.
i whould use them in a setting such as post apoc earth all are dead but mice and rats mutate into intelligent little basters and do battle using old stuff from the old world such as a nail lance or a sissor sword wiht bottle cap shields

>What the hell is Ops and Tactics and why did you write this?
Ops and Tactics is/was a rework of the terribly awful modern game D20 Modern that produces enough differences in said game to be considered it's own. It's goal was to do the following things
1. Make Combat more fluid and less rigid like the D20/D&D style outright demands.
2. Make it reflect the real attributes of weapons and armor, in a more realistic sense, while being as playable as possible.
3. Make everything else suck less, at least in my opinion.
4. Introduce a more modular way to handle magic, Incantations/Invoking(My own..thing), Psionics, and equipment. There is also a lot of equipment.
>This sucks! it has <some feature or name I stole from D&D/D20>
Yes. It does. However, there has been a lot of change to said thing. Some of the notions such as Feats, and skills, I didn't change because I've already changed the actual rules and the effects, so there are no "Newbie traps" anymore.
>Bloat!
SQuATs. Enjoy your bloat free game!
>What kind of game is this good for?
Games with a lot of gunfights, where you want the realistic guns but you don't want the slow down. Also for people at least somewhat familiar with the D20 System.

Advanced arms is my take on futuristic stuff. Had a lot of help with the Oatscrew making this, so shout out to you guys.
It's got plasguns, lasguns, plasma blades, and a host of other new fun weapons and things to mess with.
And just like the core rulebook, it has a very detailed gunsmithing rules for making plasarms, lasarms, and plasma blades.

>Modern magika
Magic splat book that has some(I like to think, anyway) intresting spin on the "fantasy races", as well as how magic is, performed and such. There's also psionics which does pretty much what you expect, and Incantations, which is shadow magic where you create things, summons, ect.
There's also magical equipment in it as well, and black powder guns to enchant with magic, as you can't enchant regular cased and shelled guns with magic, just their cases.

The monster Manual! I didn't write this! One of the oatscrew who goes by the name of Craft and Colt wrote this! It's good! Read it! There's stuff to kill in it!

Best Legion coming through.
How is it that Cthulhu, or for that matter any of the Old Ones, drives a man mad by just looking at him? Is it a psychic thing? Is it the terror of him? Or is it just because a man can't comprehend what he's looking at, and goes nuts?
It doesn't make any sense to me.
If all it took to drive a human insane was not understanding what we're looking at, then wouldn't strange optical illusions drive us insane? And if it's fear, than what if a man had no fear of Cthulhu, for one reason or another? And if it's the psychic thing, then that might kinda make sense, I suppose, but then why is it bound exclusively to looking at him?
And another thing, if looking at them drives you insane, then how are there descriptions of their appearance?
>>50798353
It doesn't. Imagine you had just found someone who had seen a Deep One.
"What happened?"
"A fish person jumped out of the darkness and tried to kill me!"
Tell me that sounds mentally stable to you.
Ask your mum
>>50798353
In Cthulhu's case it's largely a psychic thing. Even dead and buried under the ocean, his dreams leak out and worm their way into the brains of the weak-minded, driving them over the edge -- this creates the various cults dedicated to him, as people try to make sense of the strange, inhuman thoughts that are pressing on the back of their minds.
