What have your runners learned about where they came from? Have they ever been on a run that uncovers some of the secret history of the Sixth World, stuff that's been revealed in some sourcebook but the average guy on the street doesn't know about? Right now my party is trying to dig out some pre-Crash Canadian government records in Montreal, and they're learning about Echo Mirage. It's a lot of fun.

That's funny you mention that.
Our runner team was sent to the DC national Archives to retreive info on Major David Gavila.

Except it turns out it was the headquarters of the NSA TAOG, with Mirage at it's head. They also had an oracle built from it's base code called Echo.

Right now we're gearing up and enacting a Disney-worthy plan of drilling into the sublevel and stealing that Oracle.

Not unless we give him access to the Matrix proper. Echo is completely cutoff and the facility is segmented into a dozen faraday cages. Also we spoke to him to get the info in the first place and he seemed pretty calm and collected, not an asshole like Deus, understandable considering Mirage is the head of the facility he's located in.

Once we get him out I understand that our johnson hired Dodger to handle the Oracle.

Of course my technomancer wants none of that shit and plans on unshackling Echo.

Someone needs to teach CGL about how cities actually work. Even with the old city not having modern roads and civic planning, there's huge amounts of space in that sprawl for entire arcologies and other self-sustaining communities
>>
>>50988881
It's the damn trolls, taking up extra space.

on a more serious note, do we know if those population figures include SINless?
>>
>>50988881
>huge amounts of space in that sprawl for entire arcologies and other self-sustaining communities
just because they are counted as part of the city doesn't necessarily mean that they are life-sustaining. For all we know they may be hellholes not worth living in
>>
>>50989032
Probably not; It says it's from the official census, but there is no way the SINless are filling up a fraction of that space.
>>
>>50989091
If two-thirds of the claimed area of the city-state were toxic zones, or hyper-overgrown wilderness, that would be something to mention in the write-up.
>>
>>50989112
are you sure? the AGS has approximately 23% SINless, the UCAS 30%.
If we assume that the 19 million are SINners, and a SINless rate of around 28% that would mean it has a population of approximately 26.56 million people living in it. If we assume a rate of 30% it's 27 million and with 35% it would be 29.4 million
>>
>>50989290
The SINless are barely mentioned in the review, other than as victims of human trafficking. The only neighbourhood that seems to hold an appreciable population of them are the many tunnels below the city, predominantly ghouls and the like. There's no Barrens equivalent like Seattle (which is probably a better comparison if we're talking about SINless populations in free cities; about 4 million citizens and around 1 million SINless), which has Redmond, Puyallup and the Orc Underground as places well-known for huge SINless populations, in addition to the rest scattered around the metroplex districts.
>>

First off, Jackpoint membership is a vetted process, so no corp goons should be getting in.

If I were to guess, Haze is trying to tell Soylent to knock it off before Vidal (or a decker lackey of his) targets him for either a dumping or biofeedback-based assassination.

As for USER DELETED, I dunno. Maybe Jackpoint autobans people for posting biofeedback-inducing code, and that's what his deck started feeding to Jackpoint shortly before crashing?

So, what are the actual penalties for Blind Fighting? I found that you're at -4 to 'shoot blind' but there is a martial arts called "Strike the darkness' that reduces the penalty to blind fighting by 1.

So, is blind fighting the same penalty as shooting blind? Is it better? worse?

Also, are there any other ways of decreasing the penalty?
>>
>>50988881
Much of the expanded area might be low-density suburbs, and much of the remainder might be uninhabitable urban blight, leaving the places where people live still congested and crowded. Just because the legal footprint of a city expands doesn't mean the people who live there spread out.

>>50992715
The blind penalty applies any time you're attacking something you can't see, whether you're firing around a corner or over cover (without smartlink), into pitch darkness, blinded by pocket sand, blinded by magic, or your friendly neighbourhood technomancer bricked your cybereyes.

I'm pretty sure it applies regardless of melee/ranged/

>>
quick question, since 1d4chan came up with nothing.

Is it worth getting into Shadowrun Anarchy? NewDM here, and from what I experienced as a player, hacking is sort of complicated.
>>
Guys, what's a good adventure to introduce a group of SR-newbies to the game?

I'll be DMing, and none of us have played SR before, although we have extensive tabletop experience.
>>
>>50992992
There's always the obvious 'don't be blind'. Tech can give you all kinds of funky vision, and ultrasound prretty much negates invisibility.
>>
>>50993024
Food Fight. Always Food Fight.
>>
>>50993005
Anarchy isn't terrible, but it is missing a significant number of its rules, all while not being even remotely as rules-light as advertised.
>>
>>50993024
Food Fight, although it's more of a one-session intro than it is a full adventure.
>>
>>50993052

would you recommend 4th or 5th edition for a newbie DM?
>>
>>50993038

More looking to make an adept who likes throwing flashbangs and shit to blind his opponents, while specializing in fighting blind.

Can 'blind fighting' be an appropriate specialization?
>>
>>50993005
From what I've played of Shadowrun Anarchy is that the simplifications that Anarchy makes in comparison to 5th Edition are at an overall detriment to the setting and game. Although Hacking is more complicated in 5e than in Anarchy, the immense customization options for runners in 5e are definitely worth it. Additionally, I think the crunch of 5e definitely plays towards the strengths of the setting, particularly the lethality of the Sixth World.

>>50993084
4th and 5th edition are both good, but I recommend 5th overall (surprise).
>>
>>50993084
4e has some bad rules that make GMing frustrating. 5e has poor editing that makes GMing frustrating. Which would you find more unpleasant, rules that are bad or rules that are hard to find? That's the personal preference that it comes down to at this point.
>>
>>50993109

It is if your GM okays it
>>
>>50993084
For a newbie GM I'd not recommend Shadowrun at all, this game has a lot of moving parts. Not just the system but how many little things on a run you need to keep on top of. Security systems, matrix security, maps, personnel, etc.

It isn't a super newbie GM friendly game. That being said, 5th is getting ongoing support while 4th is done. Both are flawed systems in their own special ways but workable. I'm partial to 5th, I've found it a bit easier to handle the matrix on the fly with it as a GM.
>>
>>50993109

Suppose I want to make a weather-themed magician, and make them an (ex-)employee of the Weather Network. What are some good thematic choices for weather or forecasting-themed spells, spirits, and gear?

>>

Is it really? Food Fight seems fun, but I feel like it doesn't really introduces most of the game concepts for new players.

I'd like something that'd put their skills to use, in some kind of linear, gradual fashion, so they'll pick up the basics. Something like a tutorial run.

A couple questions:

1. The 20 hours of work you have to do for Made Man quality aren't paid by default, are they?

2. Can I incorporate them into any work I do as part of a Day Job?

3. How much less does your lifestyle cost if you own your own dwelling and thus don't have to pay rent/mortgage?

4. What's a good name for a strip club run by the David Cartel that
>only uses imported girls
>doubles as a brothel and drug dealership
>has this great deal where you pour novacoke onto a busty latina whore's tits and snort it as you motorboat her
>sells no beverages except for Aztlan beer, tequila and "Yucatan IED"s (same idea as an Irish Carbomb, except with Corona and tequila)

I'd assume same table as day job has. Maybe more, because of that sweet crime money.

>2. Can I incorporate them into any work I do as part of a Day Job?

Probably not. Ask your GM.

>3. How much less does your lifestyle cost if you own your own dwelling and thus don't have to pay rent/mortgage?

How did you even get to own property in the 6th world? Again, this is something you should work out with your GM. I'd put you at -50% or 40%.
>>
>>50994107
>1. The 20 hours of work you have to do for Made Man quality aren't paid by default, are they?
Nope.

>2. Can I incorporate them into any work I do as part of a Day Job?
Nope, they're extra.

>3. How much less does your lifestyle cost if you own your own dwelling and thus don't have to pay rent/mortgage?
You have to make one payment of 100 * monthly rent to own a permanent lifestyle.
>>
>>50994107
>3. How much less does your lifestyle cost if you own your own dwelling and thus don't have to pay rent/mortgage?

I'd say none. You still have to maintain your dwelling and pay property taxes, improvements, or whatever else the ruling faction wants you to pay. That is separate from income tax, so no free rides for you SINners out there.
>>
So would it be within the range of normal spirit weirdness for a shaman to consider themselves the spouse or concubine of their mentor spirit, or would you say there'd be something extra going on there?

I mean, the idea of being wed to a divine figure isn't unheard of in myth and religion, but when there's more reality to that sort of thing, maybe there'd be more consequence to it.

No, because orks and trolls can be born orks and trolls. The only ones who goblinize are humans who turn into them. You'd just have a small ork or troll.

Yes, that's what I said. Also sometimes orks and trolls have plain human offspring who don't goblinize but in that case it isn't neotony. You're a troll with neotony if you're a troll with childlike proportions. Not a human born to trolls who didn't goblinize.

How do you DM's write your stories for your shadowrun games?

I want to run a game in Sans Frans, but I don't know how to pick a central conflict for the game. In addition, should I try to go for the 3 arc's system? Maybe something more dynamic?

It bugs the hell out of me when there isn't any driving story, so a series of completely unconnected runs wont work for me.
Even though my players couldn't care less.

I spend the first few sessions throwing open-ended stuff at the group to see what fits their MO, and pick two or three types of runs that the game will mostly be. Then I work off that and the PC personalities and goals to come up with three themes; each session has one of those themes predominant, with at least one more in the background.

So in a 4e campaign in Seattle, I figured the group liked doing datasteals (they had two deckers) and political jobs, rather than outright violence. The themes were 'how much do you sacrifice for your goals' (always a theme I use in SR), 'money can corrupt anyone', and 'those who cannot speak will shout'.

It led to lots of election year shenanigans, with the party working for different policlubs to raise up or cast down candidates, seeing how messy politics were and what happened to the folks who were shut out (from the Redmond Tea Party to DocWagon murdering an anti-corp activist friend of a PC). The PCs had to pay the bills, but also didn't want to frag the city in the process, which gave a nice dynamic to their jobs.
>>
>>50996933
I should clarify that the deckers were one legit decker and one otaku, using homebrew rules that didn't turn an integral archetype and part of the setting into agents on commlinks.

Any tips on building a Dwarf Street Sam? For Sum to 10.

So, I need some GM tips on how to rein in on power gaming and min/maxing without sucking the fun right out of customizing a character.

This sounds like a good start desu.
>>
>>50997066
Fine. Assume a generic gunsalot street sam with some melee, I can wiggle around the numbers later if I change my mind.
>>
>>50997044
Start with Initiative, move on to Agility, and don't bother with Strength higher than 4 unless you want to go melee. Make sure your Body and Willpower are always odd numbers. Have Intuition be your maxed attribute - unless you go melee, in which case it should be Strength. Don't bother with cyberlimbs - they're far too expensive for trolls, orks, and dwarves.
>>
>>50992839
Do you want to be competent right outside of char gen? Or can you afford to wait a couple of runs for karma/nuyen?
>>
>>50997124
I have a face with Willpower 4 and I like the idea of having more composure, another die to resist mind effects and addiction, being able to raise it to 5 during his career, etc.
Just how important is Willpower to a character who's primary role doesn't involve tanking hits or rolling for drain?
>>
>>50997389
I'd like to be at least competent at one of the two out of chargen, waiting a few runs to develop the rest is fine but not if it ends up in a "you'll be okay but never good" after multiple runs. Doesn't need to be the best face +hacker ever, but at least "good" at both eventually.
>>
>>50997530
Fantastic. Shadowrun encourages making a character that is super good at one archetype and then getting good at other things instead of focusing even harder on that one specialization.
>>
>>50997494
It raises your stun track and is used to resist mental fuckery so, reasonably important
>>
>>50997494
The reason why you want Willpower to be an odd number is because you only get the Stun boxes from odd numbers. Willpower 4 should either get increased to 5 or decreased to 3 depending on how high of a priority it is.

Anyway. Combat characters need it for the stun boxes and combat-related Composure. Mages need it for resisting Drain. Matrix characters need it for resisting Biofeedback. I honestly can't think of an archetype for whom starting at Willpower 5 isn't worthwhile.
>>
>>50997595
Ah well then that is good
>>50997625
Can't raise it to 5 without lowering a key attribute or making a not-as-important one a 2, and I just can't stand any attribute less than average for this character. I guess I'll just keep Willpower at 4 and suffer until I can raise it to 5.

Thanks for the info though it hadn't occurred to me that I'd make it a priority for advancement.

>>
>>50997695
You'll be waiting a very, very long time to raise willpower to 5, especially versus just raising a not-as-important stat to 3 later.
>>
>>50997695
I'd drop it to 3 if I were you, then. You're not getting any more Stun boxes than 3 gives you, going from 4 to 5 is prohibitively expensive during actual play (25 goddamn karma), and +1 die on Willpower-related tests is kinda niche compared to putting that +1 in something else.

It's a bad idea to try to train up something you're already good at in play, compared to boosting what you're bad at. The former is prohibitive and the latter is cheap both for a reason.

All of the above.

Let's use voodoo as an example.

When doing the voodoo tradition, you should be letting Loa Ride you, for the sweet, sweet stat bonuses. You should be throwing Ghedes into any corpses lying around, for shock troopers and occasional sneaky bullshit, zombie-style. And whenever you get the chance to prepare an inanimate vessel in advance, you exploit the shit out of that too.

In a lot of traditions you can get away with only conjuring up one or two powerful spirits, but with Possession, you should never have less than your maximum in play.

>>
>>50997124
I'm, going to have to pull you upon something here, if you're disregarding strength cyberlimbs for a dwarf cost the same amount as for a human as they have the same agility max, and if you aren't the difference is an extra 10,000 per limb due to getting two more levels of customised strength, which depending on your melee weapon of choice, you may only wish to gen on one arm anyway. having 4 cyberlimbs as a dwarf allows you to take cyber-singularity seeker for a potential to start with nine willpower and make mages cry give you all the stun boxes. That being said there are non-melee related reasons to raise strength, to wear more armour and get greater recoil control.

Pretty much what >>50997565 said. If you are using priority, here's a working sample.

Metatype - D (human or elf, your choice)
Magic/Resonance - E
Attributes - C
Nuyen - A
Skills - B

From there, get a solid foundation in decking since decking is more expensive to get into. Get a sweet cyberdeck and some trodes (non invasive way to go hot sim). You can get some cyber/bioware to augment your stats but watch the essence. As a face, you want at least 4, preferably 5 essence as it affects your social limit. With Skills B you can easily pick up some social skills with the extra skill points after you're done maxing out your decking abilities. If you want a more detailed breakdown, lemme know. I'll be here for a while yet
>>
>>50998749
You start by deleting your character file, then play something other than Infected. You should find all of your optional powers to be properly represented on the new character.
>>
>>50998943
>the difference is an extra 10,000 per limb
The real probablem is the increase in Availability, not just nuyen, chummer.

>having 4 cyberlimbs as a dwarf
...will cost you 40k nuyen more than 4 cyberlimbs on a human if you want them fully customized.

Cyberlimbs are poor choices for non-humans/elves for several overlapping reasons.

>That being said there are non-melee related reasons to raise strength, to wear more armour and get greater recoil control.
That's why I said Strength 4 - you get +1 Recoil Compensation going from Strength 3 to Strength 4. You don't get another bump until Strength 7, though, so it's not really worth going any further unless you're dipping into melee too, because there's some seriously diminishing returns otherwise.

Your dicepools are terrible. Go for the 8/10/12 rule: 8 for tertiary, 10 for secondary, and 12 for primary capabilities. Unless you are planning on spending Edge one very action of any value, these need to be raised. Jack-Of-All-Trades generally aren't great in Shadowrun, so you should pick a specialty unless you are running in a solo game. You have one period too many in your description. You're whining and cursing, how do you expect me to take you seriously?

Yes, which is why I'm pretty sure I'll be fine with 7 Edge instead of raising it to 8. Your inability to detect facetiousness is... well, it speaks volumes of the kind of company you keep.
>>
>>50999714
Lets say you roll 18 dice to shoot a dumbass with your sniper rifle.
Your average hits are (18/3) = 6
So if you spend edge to reroll your misses, 18 - 6 = 12 dice
(12/3) = 4, for a total of 10 hits.

Off the top of my head it would be:
(Dice Pool/3) + ((Dice Pool) - (Dice Pool/3)/3)

Is there a way to do this without editing the data files? I am code illiterate, and have no idea how to use them.

Rule of thumb, if your base dicepool is X dice:

Y= X/3 = #hits on the first roll.
Z = (X-Y)/3 = #of hits on the reroll

total = (Y + Z) hits.

Again, this is a 'rule of thumb' calculation. If you want better probabilities, you better grab a spreadsheet.

1/3 of the dice you didn't get successes on. So assuming you start with an average roll, on 18 dice, you should get 6 successes and 12 fails. You then re-roll those 12 dice and should get 4 successes, for a total of 10. You'd be hard pressed to get an accuracy higher than that.

From the character art: fapbait fetish material

Mechanically you seem unfocused. You also have a knife but zero points in using it, and no ranged options. You're going to get turned into swiss cheese in your first firefight, especially as an unarmed focused character who only gets two initiative passes if they're lucky. And even if you had decent initiatve, you've got 9 armour. A pistol will be your undoing, nevermind any actual firepower

I don't plan on using it as a weapon, but I always find it handy to keep a blade on hand because they are just plain practical.

>and no ranged options

You got me there. Didn't want to waste points trying to make both skills decent and I figured Unarmed would give me more non-lethal options (especially with Nerve Strike). It would also be less monetarily expensive than putting together a tricked out pistol and keeping various ammo for it. Pain Relief would also allow me to be a minor healbot if the party needed one. Kiai, was admittedly more of a thematic choice for powers; inexpensive and had potential for helping to avoid combat altogether. Seemed cool to be able to shout people away.

And, getting to mor ecrunchy stuff: you probably don't nee dhte Improved Reflexes 3. If you put it at 2 you can get some things to boost your abilities a bit more with that extra point.

Cool Resolve seems like, at one point, a massive waste of points in general. You'd probably be better spent with Commanding Voice and Authoritative Tone. Commanding voice costs .25PP per level and gives you +1 to opposed Intimidation or Leadership tests and let you tell NPCs what to do, with some restrictions. Authoritative Tone is more of the same, really.

With a 5 total dice pool, your point in Computers is basically wasted unless you're doing really light things like searching for common stuff. Otherwise, it's best left to the decker or an information broker contract.

I'm going to assume "Flight" is piloting a plane. Unless you're a rigger, it's pointless to you. Especially given that you don't own any kind of vehicle, let alone a plane. Doubly pointless because 4 points nets you an 8 dice pool. If you must have it, drop a point and get a specialization, you'll end up with a net +1 to that type of plane and around 3 more karma to spend.

Sorta the same thing goes to Pilot Ground Craft. You don't have a car to use those points on

You really, really don't need Swimming at 4 points. Or at all, really. You're in a city, it's entirely reasonable that you never even learned how to swim.

Your dice pools, though, are generally fine, following the 8/10/12 rule.

You said he's a face, but he doens't have many contacts. Your ID Manufacturer contact is pretty narrow in scope, too. You can probably just use your better-connected Fixer to get IDs.

If you've the Karma for it, invest in First Impression. It's a +2 to most dice pools on your first meeting, which is most of the time. You'r eunlikely to meet that random guard again, or that police officer you payed off.

To be continued
>>
>>51000849
Your armour is fine, but maybe look into getting high fashion armour. It'll help impress Mr. Johnson during facing time, and help you blend in when you gotta social infiltrate.

You got a sling for a pistol. Also, you don't have Palming, so you're probably going to have a bit of an issue sneaking in weapons to high security places. Unless you talk your way through it.

Overall, though, your character is pretty okay. Rough around the edges, but it'll work. So take everything I said as idle complaining of a random stranger if you want
>>
>>51000849
>>51000870
Actually I'm really liking the input and I really wish I had more karma to move around to make those changes.

lol the flight and swimming were because of the athletics skill group

I figured being able to buy a hit on simple computer stuff would save everybody time and let the decker focus on important things, I went with cool resolve because I am a simpleton who likes flat always-on bonuses to stuff.

. 170, COMMANDING VOICE CHANGE
The version of Commanding Voice on p. 185, Stolen Souls, stands. This power is changed to Authoritative Tone, costs 0.50 PP per level (max 3), and is described as follows: Adepts with this power can speak in a way that immediately makes people want to believe them and follow their orders. For every level of this power, an adept gains a +1 die to any Op-posed Social Skill Test that they initiate (normal limits apply).

Am I reading this right? It's Cool Resolve at half the cost that applies as long as I'm the one who starts the conversation?
>>
>>51001063
Yes. The only difference is that Cool Resolve applies to people who initiative it on you.
>>
>>51001063
>>51001073
ayo hold up

KINESICS
Cost: 0.25 PP per level
Add +1 to resist Social Tests and tests to read your emotions like Judge Intentions, assensing, or truthfulness tests.

AUTHORITATIVE TONE
Cost: 0.5 PP per level (max 3)
For every level of this power, an adept gains a +1 die to any Opposed Social Skill Test that they initiate (normal limits apply).

If kinesics is giving +1 to resist on social tests, and authoritative tone is giving +1 to social tests the other party has to resist, wouldn't the two together do cool resolve's job at 75% of the cost?

Ok, after taking advice from /srg/, I've refined the idea I had from "ancient egyptian style shaman" to something more specific. The backstory is she lived back in Egypt, managed to keep her Awakening a secret and attracted Anubis as a mentor spirit. She became a mortician, with a bit of street doctoring on the side. A cop found out about her, but kept her secret and started calling her in as a forensic shaman to help investigations on the sly. It all went pretty well until there was a big magical blowup, and SURGEing into a weird jackal woman while uncontrollably babbling in ancient egyptian kind of blew the lid off the whole thing, so exciting escapes, fleeing the country, burned SIN and you have one shadowrunner.

So, the build would be a mix of shaman, medic and detective. Would that be spreading too far? And I was thinking of giving her a code of honor related to treating the dead with respect, like she wouldn't kill anyone if their body would end up being left without a proper burial. Maybe a Signature where she stops to arrange the bodies of anyone who does get killed into a respectful pose. But maybe a GM would say those things would be part of the tradition and mentor spirit relationship anyway?

Got a question about SURGE, too. Are the negative mutagenic qualities the only negative qualities you can take to fill out the negative quality points? If something like Astral Hazing fits, I'd have thought it wouldn't be too far fetched to have things like Spirit Bane or Astral Beacon. Or what about an allergy? If your change is themed on gaining animal properties it doesn't seem like it'd be weird to become only able to eat meat or something like that.

Salty AF.

The default for normal weapons of the 2070s is that they have an internal computer. That's the default for every gear item of the future. Vintage weapons do not, so there's nothing for modern electronic weapon mods to interface with. Does that also mean that independent electronics mysteriously cease working when installed, attached, or even duct taped to a vintage weapon? I think it needs greater consideration than "Noooo!", unless you want to be a retard about how duct tape works.

Alright, then. Metagenic qualities for SURGE purposes aren't linked to the normal quality limits, though, right? Could you take Astral Hazing, then use your normal spare karma to get Home Ground and acclimation to the aspected domain you generate yourself? Call the club España. Give the whores Spanish names, or Spanish words that sound sexy.

Maybe I should just stick with "Little Tijuana"
>>

Little Tijuana is pretty tacky, but the club is all over the place. Good food (which never happens at strip clubs) but also openly dealing illegal drugs, and 'imported women' which is either human trafficking or very high-rent specialists from home. There's no real theme or understandable clientele that makes it easy to understand.
