Why did Time include this? Was this to create controversy? Is it showing the change of perspective in photography?
Please, explain it to me.

just because its an add doesn't mean it isn't a significant photo. the Michael Jordan photo is basically a Nike advertisement.

I currently own a canon 600d with Sigma 10-20mm f4-5.6 / Canon 50mm f1.8 + Kit Lenses
Trying to work out if i should get a (probably sigma) 17-50mm f2.8 or Tamron 24-70 f2.8 since i have a wide already. Thoughts?eed help spending money.

Question still stands thoufh
a 50mm f/1.4 or 1.2 prime
stop being lazy and use your legs
Is Canon 60d still worth getting? I got an offer from my friend, a Canon 60d, with a kit lens (18-55) and 50mm f1.8 with 42k shutter count for 450$, I'm not sure though, what are your opinions? It's either that, or I'm just gonna wait for another offer to pass by haha

Yes
>>2966659
You could do worse with Canon than a 60D, but I still wouldn't buy it.
Companies other than Canon have better cameras for around that price.

Here we go with Sony shilling again.
Genuinely go die you fucking cunt
So I've been reading about the "elephants foot" in Chernobyl, and apparently there's only a few pictures of it because nuclear radiation interferes with cameras. How does the does nuclear radiation interfere with photographs and video since it's outside of the visible spectrum of humans?

Eyes aren't cameras.

Never heard of nor can I find any info on the radiation from elephant's foot messing with the cameras, but NASA's done some research on the effects of radiation on film. https://ston.jsc.nasa.gov/collections/trs/_techrep/TP-2000-210193.pdf
Out in space the radiation just fogs it up, elephant's foot probably renders it white.
I know that it's straight up deadly to be around so you have to work out a system with mirrors to photograph it though.

Tax dollars at work.
Looking for professional advice. An agency wants to use one of my photos in a company newspaper and app. Circulation is 90,000 copies and they offered $3,000. Is this appropriate or should I ask for more?

That seems pretty fair for such a small circulation
Besides it will get your name out there as well with real work you can show to bigger publications for more shekels
always ask for more, tell them to double it.
>>2966217
Probably. What is the wording of their request? Are they taking full rights, partial rights, etc

Cluttered composition, ugly crushed blacks. I don't think it's good.
what am I supposed to think?
>>2966210
It's cluttered, ugly, and hurts to look at
I actually kinda like this. Will probably go back another night for a recompose when it doesn't rain as much and I have a tripod with me.

needs more depth of field, but even then, it's just a basic geometric pattern. this one photo hardly makes for a masterpiece. go shoot like, a hundred of these and make a set.
>>2966150
Yeah man. Agreed. :) Wasn't meant to be either.
I think I may have found out what I like to take pictures of with this photo. For some reason it really strikes a cord with me.
I just kind of liked how the grime looked like trees coupled with the green color.
I know that probably sounds lame as shit but I think I know what I wanna shoot from now on.
Thanks for writing!
Btw, when you say more depth of field, do you mean shallower, or broader? Higher f stop?
Sorry not native english so I'm not entirely sure what you mean.

I have a question
I have two pieces of gear I am looking at
a full frame DSLR ( Nikon D750)
and a Nikon 200-500mm lens
I have a crop frame DSLR (Nikon D3300 ) and a meh Sigma 70-300mm lens right now , so the 300 on a crop is essentially a 480 right?
So I would not really get anymore reach with a 500 on a full frame than with a 300 on a crop right? Could also get a TC to make up for it but would rather not
You're looking at 450mm equivalent for 300mm on DX. If reach is what you want you should get the 200-500 for your DX body and have glorious 300-750mm equivalent.
>>2964953
wow what a good gear question for the gear thread. Maybe you should try the thread for gearfags.
oh wait that's all of /p/ now

What are good jobs in photography ?
Where do I find one ?
>Inb4 wedding photographer
Watch those northrup people and basically do exactly that
Photography doesn't pay unless you're really good or you suck a lot of dicks.
Well, what do you mean by "good job"?
You can start your own homegrown company, you can do freelance and do small gigs for publications, you can be lucky and get a short-term job for a company. Of course there are more options, but if you were any good you would know what those are already.
As one of the few people on this board who has actually taken a formal photography course (elective i chose to took, not related to my major) and learned from a professional photographer who actually made a good living out of it and gave good advice/stories, I can tell you this:
Consider your experience. Are you formally taught (MFA, Bachelors, any classes anywhere)? How extensive is your portfolio (preferably your own website and not flickr)? What type of photography do you want to do? Connections, got any? Adobe experience? Do you have a good eye for composition/sequencing?
If any of these questions made you doubt yourself, then you should put down the camera and be a wedding photographer.
