Why is that most people who pick-up photography as a hobby do worst pictures than people who just mess around on Instagram? Seriously, this is something I will never understand. I used to browse a local forum dedicated for photography and there were maybe one guy who had some creativity and eye for photography. The rest literally raped by eyes with the complete lack of style compared with shit-postprocessing and very-cliche situations. Why do some many people on these forums think that you can compensate the lack of aesthetics with technical knowledge?
Pic of the opposite is related. Guy shot this when he was like 14. Nothing special going on when it comes to composition or post-processing, but its still a really good picture to look at because it has a great style. Why is it hard to graps for people?
There's stages to being a newbie photographer. One of them is bokeh-whoring; another is going through all the cliches that exist in those areas of photography that they're interested in.
tl;dr -- don't rage about newbies. They're new, and don't know.

because people on boards are recluse cretins who spend most of the time sitting at their computer talking shit and condemning others to feel better themselves, whereas most instagram users are normies who actually go to nice places, take photographs and keep it simple with a filter.

I volunteered to take photos of kids with Santa at a small business community event this weekend.
Any tips?

Get to their eye level when you shot, AKA, always be crouching
>various given excuses why there are only 8 pictures per pack instead of 10
>various given excuses as to why they can't get development times to under half an hour
>OK, makes sense, they lost the original formula after all, they're constrained by the dimensions of Polaroid cameras, etc.
>completely free rein in making their own camera
>release a camera where film packs provide only 8 pictures and still take half an hour to develop
Seriously, what the fuck?

I think it's more of a case of gaining more revenue by not only selling the film, but the cameras themselves.
You can get a 600, Spectra, or SX-70 camera for under $50 all day every day which makes companies like Mint ($300+ for a fucking refurbed Polaroid SX-70) an even smaller niche than instant cameras already were. A new instant camera, that uses IP's current film stock, and has modern features is a smart move for them.
I do think the camera is horribly overpriced, but at least it's not like Mint where you can get the same thing for $15 from Goodwill.

I realized that the reason I am stuck in mediocrity is because all my images don't have meaning. I just go out and take photos of anything I find interesting.
I look at photo books and even though not each individual image may be strong they all work together.

try to blow the highlights out in the windows but in an attractive subtle way. the blue sky and outdoor detail is distracting me from the room. also look at "microsmoothing" in photomatix which is great for interior, should sort those ugly greys and dirty look on >>2965904
i wouldn't HDR but i'd do 2 exposures, one spot metered off of a grey or white object which should end up under exposed and one +1 or +1.3 or so. merge both and find a regular exposure from there, modern scenes suit a slight over exposed look, imo.
your white balance also seems a little off, a little warm and magenta and the image looks very soft. did you -clarity?

If you shoot Nikon and don't own a Micro-Nikkor already, you're a dip. It will be the sharpest lense you own, buy it.
If, after attempting to scan your film, you find yourself too retarded to get sharp results, evenly illuminate the negatives, or correct colours, you will still have a very versatile lense of extraordinary quality.
Once confirmed for retarded, THEN you can pay for some beige tupperware and try running a windows '95 emulator on your laptop so you can use it, and THEN you can also try pirating 90's translated-from-german colour-correction software to give you their version of "correct" colours on your soft 2000px scans, and in a fortnights time you can pay them for it too. Which, coincidentally, if you work 2 hours a day every day, should be enough time for you to have scanned your 30 rolls.
On the other hand, if you buy all that first, and then later realise you're not too retarded to DSLR scan, you'll be stuck with what you now realise is worthless trash.

I'm using a lens with aperture ring.
Went to F5 and changed to use the aperture ring.
Now in M mode, one dial does nothing at all. While it could change the ISO.
It can't be real, really the dial can't change the ISO without having to hold one button?
Fuck this shit.
>>2970579
You're dumb and fucking things up somehow. you can definitely use the front and rear dials for shutter speed and aperture.

Another dial for ISO

Cron
though I can't vouch for the newer Summicron, I have a Planar ZM. It is great with film and has nice colour on digi but is ever so slightly soft on my a6000 but still better than my best Nikkor glass.
I have an old radioactive Cron that is fantastic with B&W but doesn't hold up for colour, and the 60+ year old lens about equal in sharpness to my 5 year old Planar.
