Now that Trump has won you can expect camera, lens and accessories prices to skyrocket.
Not that it would've been different if Hillary won.
Now that the bad news is out, lets discuss what gear you will buy before the situation starts escalating.

I'll probably sit back and enjoy the view because I'm not american and I also had to go through this shit a few years before.
>>2961771
i already have all the gear i need because im not a cucked gearfag or newfag.
And what makes you think the prices of photo equipment will skyrocket?
Hi guys.
I have no knowledge of photography but i have a friend who is really talented and is into it.
The thing is, the friend is a mathematician and i was wondering is there a book that connects mathematics and composition in photography.
I think my friend could really utilize his knowledge of mathematics when making photos if there was some sort of literature about this.
So, is there and do you know of any books of this kind.
Thank you,
Here is something i think is photography porn in return.

no, that photo is reddit.

Do a search for books discussing dynamic symmetry, Fibonacci spirals and golden ratios/rectangles, but chances are your buddy already knows all this.

it's more a sign of the times.
not really anything to be happy about if you like or care about cameras, even if your favourite brand is something else
>>2961131
Most camera companies are not doing that well and sales are dropping pretty much across the board. Even for Canon.
Sony's camera division has been on thin ice for a while. Pentax almost went out of business a couple of decades ago.
What enables these companies to even survive in the first place are the entry level bodies that we love to mock because we think we're so above using them. It's kinda like how non of the companies that produce supercars make most of their money from said cars or even racing. It's easy to forget if you live in photography land and your news feed is consumed with PetaPixel and Nikon Rumors articles about the latest expensive piece of equipment.

So I just got my new camera (first body upgrade since 2008) and thought I'd see what the current Adobe Lightroom goes for. Apparently you can only get a fucking subscription now (might be old news, but fulltime job keeps you out of the loop).
The only option now is to switch to an already obsolete lightroom version (6), get a fucking subscription, or chose another raw converter. I'll give Capture One Pro a try, seeing as how it's included with the camera body (and if I can somehow export my existing catalogue of edited raws into it).
What does the rest of /p/ use for raw editing? Also, is there any way round this subscription bullshit?
>>2961562
I use Lightroom, it's by far the best.
But I pirate it because I don't want to support a shitty company like Adobe.
>>2961562
Looks like LR6 is basically the current CC version and looks like what's included with my new camera is a downgraded version of Capture One Pro...
>>2961565
Can you still activate a trial version with a key or does one have to pirate the whole thing now?
I have a bunch of 8mm film reels I want to digitize.
Any good methods for that? I don't mind if it involves building something. I tried capturing off a screen, but the results sucked.
Some howtos use cameras to photograph each frame, but afaik that kills the shutter soon.
Others point to a flatbet scanner project, but that's only for 35mm I think.

There's a very good method an old friend told me about. See, back in the day, there were those so called "labs" that scan your film professionally using special equipment. Some of these are still available, so you should be able to exchange money for this service.
>>2961428
Labs charge you through the ass for it though. I had a lab quote me 60e starting price, 24e for handling, and 3.45e per minute not including soundtrack.
>>2961430
You already determined it's difficult to do well. You either need special equipment or a whole lot of time and spare shutters. You expect labs to do that for free for you and the six other people in the world who want to digitize 8mm film?
There's probably a commercial grade film scanner that will handle 8mm reels, just find one and decide whether you'd rather pay that price or pay a lab to do it.
im working on a project where i take pictures of pay-by-the-hour motels in the south bronx. they are pretty skeevy and it won't be that long before they are gentrified out of existence.
here are seven photos from my first roll. lmk what are ur thoughts :^)
and apollogie for image quality, i;m out of town without access to a hq scanner right now so these are just shitty iphone photos of prints.

Can anyone redpill me on this? I'm already invested into another camera system, but I want a small, cheap camera for doing old-school landscapes mostly as my current system is not ideal for this. There is also the APS-H version coming out soon that I may wait for as it may fit the bill better, but at £899 with a Sigma 30 1.4 ART I really can't see a better option. Review here with comparison to D800, spoiler: D800 loses.

Where are the good photo directors at? Have any of the big names in photography been contacted to work on films in the past? For instance, i think this movie would have greatly benefited from a russian/slavic photo eye, they make commie blocks look otherwordly and futuristic.

Sony a7sii if you would like shorter shutter times, a7rii if you want better resolution, a7ii if you're a bit too poor for the above 2.
Why the Sony a7 series?
They're Full frame, gathers more light, gives greater apparent sharpness, has better noise performance, ultra wide angles are much better and more available.
It's mirrorless, the shorter flange distance allows faster, high quality wide angle lenses than dslrs that need to use a retrofocal design.
It's Sony, sony take coma into consideration when making lenses a LOT more than other brands, good coma performance is important for night photography.
They also do automatic dark frames for long exposures, have a tiltable screen that's great for focusing in low/no light and have ibis if you want to do anything handheld.
The pentax k1 is the only other body that comes close for your application.
Also can I get some recommendations? I don't want something I'll grow out of too fast
>>2960562
don't buy that
What kind of photography are you doing?
>>2960562
Don't buy it.
Get a Fuji XE-1 or XT-1. If you're feeling spunky get an XPro1
Say an old lens cant focus at infinity. It almost goes there, but not totally. Does it just need to get the rear element more protruding so the focal plane at infinity aligns with the end of the focusing barrel?
How can i do this in an helios lens, for example?
>>2960473
Unscrew it. Find a keyring that is the same size and put it below the back element.
Also, I was all about infinity with the 44-2. There isn't really a point for having it, because you buy the lens for the swirly bokeh but then again don't get to use that if you're shooting at infinity.
>>2960486
yeah saw that fix in a couple youtube videos. then found some chink/slav saying this fix deteriorates image quality, that the Real Fix (TM) involved moving all elements towards the camera body, not just the rear element. what do you think?
>>2960489
I wouldn't suggest it. I'm not entirely worried about IQ rather than what the image actually shows and displays. Hell, the look may add some good feelings if it's tasteful enough.
This is happening in all my pictures, don't know what it is. I have tried uninstalling it and installing it again... have you seen anything like this before?

you see the small triangles on both sides of that histograph? click those. they show where your shadows are crushed/highlights are blown.
>>2960411
Blues and reds are clipping warnings. Turn them off.
>>2960411
The blue and red are clipping warnings. Where it's blue the image has gone to full black, where it's red it's gone to full white. You'll want to avoid that unless you specifically want no detail crushed blacks.
Disable it by clicking the pyramids on the top left and right of the histogram on the top right.
I'm considering printing a few of my pics and gift them for Christmas (and for myself).
So far I've only seen services offering the typical letter-size, good for photo albums I guess but I want a few, big ones. I'm pretty sure a 24MP source should be okay on A3+.
Anyway, does anyone have any recommendation? Anything to be careful about processing-wise? Matte/Glossy? How about those fancy prints on metal sheets?
